Prayers for the ChurchAnglican Church in North America: Bishop Derek Jones, his wife Connie; Bishop Mark Nordstrom, his wife Christina; Bishop Michael Williams, his wife Becky; and the chaplains ministering in, and the military and civilian personnel ministered to, in the Diocese of the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy.

Under the oversight of the bishops, the Diocese of the Armed Forces and Chaplaincy supports the endorsement and care of chaplains serving in the US military, federal and local government, hospital and hospice, law enforcement and other vocational and volunteer chaplains serving their communities. The Diocese is the endorsing agency and canonical residence for professional chaplains serving in the ACNA.

The Special Jurisdiction of the Armed Forces was approved by the Provincial Council of the ACNA to become a full diocese in 2014, with Bishop Jones, a retired US Air Force fighter pilot, as the first bishop. As the need grew, the College of Bishops of the Anglican Church in North America met on Jan. 11, 2018 and prayerfully elected two suffragan bishops for the diocese. Both Bishop Williams and Bishop Nordstrom had been senior officers in the Air Force and Army, respectively, where they had served until retirement. Two of Bishop Nordstrom’s three children now serve in the Army

The Diocese, in addition to endorsing and sponsoring chaplains, sponsors a variety of ministries, including:

The Centurion ProjectThe Centurion Project is an intense four-day retreat designed to build community and to bring spiritual, physical, mental and emotional renewal and vitality to those who suffer from Post Traumatic Stress, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Combat Operational Stress, trauma, and moral injury through times of fellowship and solitude, under Holy Spirit-guided prayer and worship.

Visions of GraceVisions of Grace, an eye care ministry, is a chaplain-led missionary outreach, answering God’s call into Third World countries.

The Adoption FundAnglican Chaplains are committed to pro-life initiatives that care for orphans and make possible their adoption into Christian families. In an effort to aid in the costs incurred by Anglican families who seek to adopt children, the Anglican Chaplain’s Fund was created.

Broken Chalice Prison MinistryThis ministry is an outreach to spread the Gospel to those in prison.

MissionsThe Diocese also supports missions and has sponsored two church plants in Guatemala, and also sponsors and supports the Anglican Health Ministries, which provides resources to individuals and parishes who wish to provide holistic care to community members across the life span; address the spiritual, physical, and emotional health needs of the parish and community; serve as advocates for health promotion and disease prevention with an emphasis on the integration of faith and health; encourage education, support, hope, and healing as congregations expand into community settings; and facilitate wellness and the promotion of community collaboration. (Source: Diocesan website)

Please pray especially for the guidance of all those whose work puts them in harm’s way.

Anglican Diocese of the Great Lakes: Our own Fr. Ron Baird, Fr. Shane Tucker, Mother Nanci James, Fr. Ed Steele, Fr. Ernie Tracy, Fr. Wil Verhoff, Deacon Becky Spanos, and the people of St. Andrew’s Anglican Church.

Parish Cycle of Prayer: Fr. Ernie and Candy Tracy; Ben, Danielle, Nick and Alex Tranchina; the Tuesday Morning Women’s Bible Study Small Group; and the Stand for Faith ministry.

ARDF organizing hurricane relief effortsWith many communities in the south experiencing major flooding, power loss, and damage from Hurricane Florence, the Anglican Relief and Development Fund (ARDF) is already organizing relief efforts. If you wish to help those in our Anglican family who are facing the potential for significant loss due to the hurricane, you can do so by giving to the ARDF, who will distribute funds to dioceses affected by the storm. Those dioceses, in turn, will prioritize the needs of their communities and distribute donations to those who need it the most. All of this can happen quickly with your help!

To contribute, please write a check payable to St. Andrew’s Anglican Church with “Hurricane Relief” on the memo line, and place it in the collection basket this weekend. We will then send a single check from the church to ARDF.

‘BootCamp’ men’s retreat Nov. 8-11Have you ever felt like there must be more to life than this? You may have been a follower of Jesus for a few years, or for most of your life, but may be wondering if God might be bigger than you’ve known him to be thus far. You may have also questioned at times if he has more for you, as you walk and work with him, than you’ve experienced to date. Or you may have asked God to help you be the husband, the father, the son, brother or friend that he created you to be, but lacked the vision and encouragement to move in that direction. Wherever you find yourself … you’re in good company with a band of brothers who are on that same journey.

This Nov. 8-11 men from our parish, along with some from other churches, will gather at Eagles Wings Lodge in southern Ohio’s Hocking Hills. We’ll have ample opportunity to enjoy the great outdoors with a lake, hiking trails, a shooting range, ping pong table and hot tub … but there’s so much more in store. “Boot Camp BASIC” is a weekend designed to help men live more fully alive in Christ. The content for the weekend is based on Dr. John Eldredge’s popular book, “Wild at Heart.” Eldredge and his wife Staci lead an organization called Ransomed Heart through which they write, speak and facilitate events such as this retreat all over the world.

If you’re interested and would like more information, or if you’d like to sign up, please get in touch with Fr. Shane Tucker at [email protected] or 740-548-5112, ext. 4. There are about five spaces left on a first come-first served basis. Friends are welcome, as well. The cost, including accommodation and food, is $265 before Oct. 1. Scholarships are available. Join us for what promises to be an epic experience and a milestone in our journey of faith as sons of our Father.

Women’s Bible Study resumes Tuesday, Sept. 18The Tuesday morning Women’s Bible Study small group will resume their regular meetings on Sept. 18.

The group, which meets on the first and third Tuesdays, from 9:30 to 11 a.m., at the Parish House, will be selecting and starting a new study at their first meeting. For more information, contact Tally Whitehead at 740-548-5112, ext. 5 or [email protected].

Prayer, support soughtfor Via de Cristo eventSt. Andrew’s parishioners Dan and Christine Brill will serve on a Via de Cristo weekend Oct. 1-4.

Via de Cristo is a three-day renewal experience for Christians who desire to grow in their understanding of God’s great love and grace. This laity-led volunteer movement inspires, challenges, and equips local church members for Christian action in their homes, churches, and communities. You can support the Brills in these ways:

Prayer! This is the most important aspect of the Via de Cristo experience. Please sign up at the Information Desk if you’re willing to commit to pray for the event and those attending, and include your name and email address so that Christine can send you more information.

Donations! There is no charge for those who attend the weekend for the first time, and Via de Cristo of Ohio relies solely on donations from team members and the greater Christian community to cover expenses for food and facility rental. Each team member is asked to raise about $200 toward the $5,000 it costs to put on an event. Donations in any amount are appreciated. Checks may be made out to Via de Cristo of Ohio and either given to Dan or Christine, or placed in the offering basket marked for VdC-OH. (Donations are tax-deductible.)

For more information about Via de Cristo of Ohio, contact Dan and Christine Brill, 614-899-7429 or [email protected]; Carlo Cherubini, 614-327-2317 or [email protected]; or Fr. Wil Verhoff, 740-602-8810

Men invited to series of ‘Fire Pit Nights’ this fall Men of the parish, and their friends, are invited to “Fire Pit Night,” an informal time to connect and converse, on the second and fourth Tuesdays this fall, from 8 to 10 p.m. The location may vary, so please contact Fr. Shane Tucker at [email protected] or 740-548-5112, ext. 4 for more info.

Please join us in prayer for our Harvest Festival! Our annual Harvest Festival is a wonderful way to celebrate the bounty of God’s harvest as we welcome our community to St. Andrew’s for a day of shopping, food, music, and fun.

We’ve moved the Festival up several weeks for the past two years in hopes of having better weather than we’ve had in previous years. Please join us in praying for a beautiful fall day.

We also ask your prayers for the Harvest Festival planning team as they put the finishing touches on this year’s event; for volunteers to step up to fill all of the positions remaining open; that all those in attendance have a blessed and safe day; and that we will be effective witnesses of God’s amazing love and grace to those in attendance.
