The Washington County Board approved a resolu-tion May 12 to reduce the number of supervisors onthe board from 30 to 26.

At the start of discussion, board Chairman HerbTennies said several options were discussed by astudy committee before the reduction was supportedby a 7- 3 vote.

Supervisor Tim Michalak of Hartford said hewould support having 15 members on the board andsaid he represents the same number of people in hisrole as county supervisor as he does as an aldermanon the Hartford Common Council.

“This is a step in the right direction,” Michalak saidof reducing the size of the board to 26 members. “Itmight not be the number I would agree to, but I willagree to the number because of the fact that it doestake us in that direction.”

Supervisor Mark Miller noted he has supportedmotions in the past to reduce the size of the board butsaid he was hoping for a larger reduction in the num-ber of supervisor positions on the board.

“I voted for the reductions in the past but this timeI will vote no because I feel the size (of the reduction)should be larger. We should be reducing more boardmembers than we are,” Miller said.

Tennies said he would prefer to have 25 supervi-sors on the board, noting that other counties have asimilar number.

Supervisors Donald Kriefall and Dan Stoffel notedthat with 25 members on the board (and the CountyBoard chairman as the 26th supervisor), each super-visor would serve on one committee.

Stoffel said he opposed a largerreduction because supervisors “would bespread very thin” with having to representa larger area. Stoffel said if there wereonly 20 supervisors, many of the ruralsupervisors would be representing three

municipalities.“That makes things very difficult,” he

said.A motion to send the matter back to

the committee to consider a larger reduc-tion was defeated by a 20-6 vote.

Board member Brian Krebs of Slinger

said that “26 is a number a I can live withfor today.”

The board then approved the final res-olution by a 16-6 vote. The change will beimplemented for the April 2016 CountyBoard election. —By Thomas J. McKillen, Managing Editor

WEDDING  SHOWCASEAfter all of the invitations have been

sent and RSVPs returned, engaged cou-

ples who are including a sit-down dinneras part of their wedding receptions mustfigure out the seating arrangements fortheir guests. Such a task can be both funand stressful.

The fun of making seating arrange-ments stems from reuniting friends andfamily members who couples feel willenjoy one another's company and makethe reception that much more fun. But feud-ing family members can make the task ofassigning seats somewhat stressful.Couples need not be relationship expertsto plan seating arrangements that ensureguests have a good time. The following

tips can help couples enjoy the process ofmapping out their wedding reception seat-

ing assignments as much as possible.• Make assignments by hand. While

there is software designed specifically tohelp couples map out seating assignments, many couples find it easier to do the seat-ing assignments by hand, which allowscouples more freedom to rearrangetables. In addition, making the seatingarrangements by hand ensures that cou-ples spread out guests who might not getalong.

    • Don't seat guests in the hopes ofquashing old conflicts. While the jovialspirit of a wedding ceremony and recep-tion might seem like the perfect atmos-

phere for feuding friends or family mem-bers to bury the hatchet with regard to old

conflicts, this leaves open the potentiallyugly possibility that such conflicts mightescalate. Couples don't want their wed-dings to be remembered for all the wrongreasons, so keep feuding factions apartwhen assigning seats.

    • Keep special needs guests in mind. Some guests at the wedding may havespecial needs, and this must be kept inmind when planning seating assignments.Guests with medical conditions may bene-fit from sitting close to the restroom, whilethose with mobility issues might be bestserved sitting in a spot where waitstaff canmore easily recognize when they needsomething. Consider sitting older guests, whose vision might not be as strong as itonce was, as close to the happy couple aspossible so these guests can see every-thing and won't feel left out.

    • Make sure the seating assignmenttable is easily accessible. The table onwhich seating assignment cards will beplaced should be accessible upon enter-ing the reception hall. A table that's far offin the corner may confuse some guests, who might think the seating is a free-for-alland simply sit in the first empty seats theysee.

    • Consider flow between tables when

making assignments. While yohave aced the seating assignm

each table, don't overlook the impof mapping out tables as well. Nowants their guests to feel isolatfriends or family members at otheso do your best to ensure there'sflow between the tables. Plan for family members to be placed nexanother, and do the same with gfriends. This encourages guests toand can make the night much moable for everyone involved. Planning assignments for a wedding ris no small task. But couples canseveral strategies to make the proas smoothly as possible.

    Drs. Richard and Bruce Winter

Dear Dr. Winter, I would like to inquire about thecost of mini implants. I actually just learned aboutthem after finding out I need a partial for 6 missingteeth in a row on my upper left. I am interested infinding out your mini implant prices withoutextractions, bone grafting, or X-Rays. How muchdifference in price is there from a three teeth bridgeto a 6-tooth bridge? Also, are your mini implantprocedures done the same day?

Dear Jean, mini-implants are not used for posteriorbridgework. The narrow diameter of the implant(1.8mm wide) and the hard chewing would lead tofailure of the mini-implants and the bridgework! There may be some dentists that are willing to do alarge bridge with mini-implants but that would neverbe done at Hampton Dental Associates. Againmaking a large bridge and anchoring it to very smallpins would lead to the bridge being pushed left andright during chewing. That is why the FDA hasapproved mini-implants for long-term use forretaining dentures and partial dentures.Another complicating factor is that the bone in theupper jaw is not very dense compared to the lowerarch. Maxillary bone is like Styrofoam or balsa woodcompared to pine or oak in the lower jaw.

Mini--implants are used to retain dentures orpartials or to hold on to a single crown in the lowerfront of the mouth. Other than that you would require

a minimum of 3 implants for replacing 6 teeth. Iwould be happy to discuss traditional implantbridges, extractions, grafting and any other treatmentoptions if you wish to schedule a comprehensiveexamination and x-ray visit. Giving fees withoutseeing x-rays or examining your bite and adjacentteeth would be guessing as several factors go intocalculating the best treatment options. If you stillhave teeth in the upper arch and there are 6 teeth thatneed to be removed it is probable that there are issues

on the other side of the mouth as well that need tobe diagnosed and addressed. Sometimes implantoptions can be discussed to address all of yourproblems at one time. I am sorry you are havingproblems and are faced with tooth loss. Please takethe time to read my articles and view ourtestimonials at www.hamptondentalassociates.com

I put a lot of information on these pages toeducate our readers. Please read Upgradeable Dentistry Part II and III asthese will discuss mini-implants in much moredetail! Then call our office at 414-464-9021 toschedule your implant or mini-implant appointmenttoday!
