Jordan Gundrum of West Bend Eastwon a WIAA Division I wrestling title at160 pounds at "ChampionshipSaturday" at the Kohl Center Feb. 28.

Gundrum opened with two take-downs against Oak Creek's Ben Hakesto take a 4-0 lead after the first period. He stretched the lead out to 9-0 in thesecond period, which was enough forthe title.

Afterwards, Gundrum said hereviewed film of Hakes “and I knew hewas a scrambler. I knew that I had to be

careful.”“I knew if he went for something

and he didn’t go for it 100 percent Icould capitalize on it,” Gundrum said. “I(got) ahead on the points and thenplayed it smart.”

Gundrum finished the season with a50-0 record. He started the tournamentwith a pin over Ricky Sommers of GreenBay West/Southwest and followed thatwith a 7-0 decision over Sawyer Massieof Hudson. He then pinned OscarRamos of Kenosha Bradford in the semi-final.

Hartford junior Beau Breske, a two-time state champion, lost the Division 1170 pound final to Mason Reinhardt ofMerrill. Breske held a 4-2 lead in thethird period but was twice called for

stalling. Reinhardt then scored a point

on an escape in double overtime for theupset.

“Everybody does know about Beauand I tried to treat it like any othermatch,” Reinhardt said afterward.

Reinhardt noted he wrestled Breskeearlier in the year at the WhitnallZielinski duals and didn’t wrestle wellthat time.

“I stayed back, I didn’t attack, I gotlong and out of position,” Reinhardt saidof his earlier showdown with Breske.

“He’s the type of wrestler that will get a

guy out of position and he won’t get outof position. This time I just attacked andI got him, I guess.”

Breske started the tournament witha 13-4 major decision over DylanAnderson of Hudson and followed thatwith a pin over Taggart Haase ofMiddleton. He advanced to the finalwith a 7-1 win over Jacob Raschka ofPewaukee in the semifinal.
