CELEBRATE THE SEASON ATHONOLULU CITY LIGHTS

Opening night festivities for the annual Honolulu CityLights Celebration is set for Saturday, December 2ndfronting Honolulu Hale. The Tree Lighting Ceremony isscheduled for 6:00 pm along with the start of the ElectricLight Parade beginning at A'ala Park.

As always, the Honolulu HaleCourtyard of Trees will be amuch anticipated event asemployees from various citydepartments and agenciesshow off their Christmas treedecorating talents. The themefor this year's exhibit is "It's aZoo Out There" with a nod tothe Honolulu Zoo.

Leading the charge for HART's entry was Janelle Tanna and herteam of volunteers. Come join the fun at Honolulu City Lights!

The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation partneredwith Move Oahu Forward, the Hawaii Small BusinessDevelopment Center, and Pearlridge Center to host "SmallBusiness Saturday."

Shoppers were treated to liveentertainment as the HARTTeam handed out discountsand special offers in support oflocal, small businesses onOahu.

The event was part of HART ' s Community ChampionProgram to help businesses capitalize on growth opportunitiesduring rail construction.

NAVFAC HAWAII TOURS HART'S RAIL OPERATION FACILITIES



The Honolulu Authority for Rapid Transportation was proud to host representatives of theNaval Facilities Engineering Command (NAVFAC) Hawaii to its Rail Operations Center. The

group received informational briefings on the projectfrom HART 's Director of Design and Construction,Frank Kosich before taking an up-close look at thetrains that will soon be transporting thousands ofcontractors both to and from their jobsites at JointBase Pearl Harbor-Hickam. HART is continuingdiscussions with JBPHH representatives to assist incoordinating adjustments to Base entry procedures.

Currently, onworkdays

between 5:00am and 7:30am, the Base processes aslow, steady flow of vehicular traffic as more than athousand contractors report for duty. It is anticipatedthat with HART, that pattern will change with severalhundred passengers potentially arriving all at once atone of the two rail stations serving the Joint Base.HART and JBPHH are coordinating to prepare forchanges in entry patterns.

SEASONIt's the holiday season and for many of us, thatmeans more time at the mall! And with moreshoppers out and about unfortunately, thechances of one of those shoppers beingtargeted by criminals also increases.

The Honolulu Police Department has some tipson how you can protect yourself during theholiday shopping season:

• Always be vigilant• Always be aware of your surroundings• If possible, shop during daylight hours• If you have to shop at night, do so with a friend or family member• Park as close as possible to where you're going• Always park in a well-lit area



• Always lock your vehicle with the windows rolled up• Never leaves keys in the ignition or valuables in plain view• Try not to overload yourself with too many packages• Hold packages firmly and never leave them unattended• Have your keys already in hand as you approach your vehicle• Try to limit the amount of cash or credit cards you are carrying

Criminals always look for easy targets,
