The upgrades have also had a posive impact on the learning environment of their staff and 1,850 pupils. Project overview Harrogate Grammar School was looking to improve the learning environment of the school, as well as drive down energy costs and cut carbon emissions. The primary focus for the school was their exisng 1970’s boilers which were highly inefficient and no longer provided sufficient heat to the classrooms. The academy applied to the Educaon Funding Agency (EFA) for the Academies Capital Maintenance Fund (ACMF) to help provide the capital cost for the upgrades. The total project cost £223,323 however due to the energy savings associated with the project, Salix Finance were able to convert 100% of this into an interest-free loan which is repaid using the savings on their energy bills making it cost neutral. It also enables funding to stretch further and more academies to benefit. @SalixFinance WWW.SALIXFINANCE.CO.UK “With a Salix loan, we were able to replace the boilers earlier than we would have otherwise been able to with our own budget. Aſter 7 years of repaying the loan, we are able to see the savings for future years. You have to do what’s right for the building as well as the pupils and not be afraid to spend to save. We see ourselves as a pioneering school and we see the Salix loan as being a big part of that” Steve Howell, Chief Financial Officer, Harrogate Grammar School John Mungovin, Facilies Manager, Harrogate Grammar School Annual £ Savings £34,343 Lifetime £ Savings £343,430 Total Loan Value £223,323 Project Payback 6.5 years Savings achieved by Harrogate Grammar School SOLVING ENERGY EFFICIENCY FINANCE IN THE PUBLIC SECTOR
