Special thank you to our custodians, summer helpers, volunteers and district maintenance for completing summer improvements which included: masonry work and replacement of window lentils; installation of preschool restrooms; ceiling and lighting upgrades in classrooms; electrical upgrades and installation of air conditioners in classrooms; installation of window blinds in both preschool classrooms, cafeteria/lunchroom and additional rooms; and painting of the upper hallway, lunchroom and Barr Memorial lobby.

Over 250 students and family members attended Open House with several also in attendance at the “Back to School Rally” that afternoon.

Congratulations to Mrs. Bailey’s 5th grade student, Sophia Brammer. She was the winner of North’s Open House gift basket.

Harrison Hills Employee Spotlight

Name: Elizabeth Marie Brooks (Ferrell)

Building: Harrison Central

I grew up on an old apple orchard in Freeport, attended Lakeland High School, and graduated from Harrison Central in 2000 (the first class of Huskies). I earned my bachelor's at Kent State University and obtained my master's in educational leadership from Salem International University. I love taking classes and learning new things, so a doctorate just might be in my future.

Obviously my hobbies are reading, reading, and more reading! I would briefly mention a few of my favorite authors/novels, but the list would take up entirely too much space on this newsletter. As the genius George R. R. Martin said, “A mind needs books as a sword needs a whetstone, if it is to keep its edge.”

Bobby (Harrison Central Resource Officer) and I married on June 26, 2010 in a rather unusual manner. (I'm sure those in attendance will recall medieval costumes and a stage.) Since then we've been traveling as much as possible. Our favorite destination thus far has been an isolated little town called Skagway, Alaska, but we haven't made it to Ireland...yet.
