Grant Request Deadlines
HCCF has no limit on the amount of funding requested. However, requests $200,000 or
more are considered Signature Grants. Signature Grant requests will only be accepted between
November 1 and December 15 to be considered for funding in the following calendar year.
Decisions for signature grants may be announced anytime during the 2011 year.
Applications are currently being accepted for the Spring Grant cycle. Applications are
available on the HCCF web site, www.hccfindiana.org, or contact the HCCF staff at (812) 738-
6668 for a copy. To facilitate the preparation of complete grant applications, applicants are en-
couraged to utilize Foundation staff assistance. A grant application submitted for review must be
done no later than one week prior to the submission deadline. Grant applications must be
hand delivered to the HCCF office by 5:00 pm Friday, January 14, or may be postmarked by
January 15, 2011. Grant applications will be reviewed and final announcements should be made
by mid-March. Contact the Foundation office or [email protected] if you have any
questions or desire assistance.
During the Fall 2010 Grant Cycle, HCCF imposed a moratorium on the match requirement for
capital grants to schools. The purpose of this moratorium was to help the schools during this
economic crisis. We are pleased to announce HCCF will continue this moratorium for the
Spring 2011 Grant Cycle.
We will now accept electronically submitted 990 forms, Secretary of State Business
Entity Reports, 501(c)3 letters of determination and annual audits. Once the HCCF staff has
received and approved, an email confirmation of receipt will be sent to each agency. The check-
list in the grant application will remain as is and the agency will place an “e” for emailed on the
checklist. This is optional and our purpose is to cut back on the amount of paper used and time
spent copying these documents.
North Harrison Middle School students
Brittany Lamon and Olivia Miller learn to play the
piano with the new Yamaha Keyboard Lab
purchased this spring with HCCF funding and
matching funds from the school corporation.
Teachers are now teaching Yamaha Music in
Education curriculum to sixth, seventh, eighth
grade and high school music theory students. The
lab contains 16 keyboards accommodating 30 stu-
dents. The keyboards have hundreds of instru-
ment voices and styles. There are more than 400
lessons and complete lesson plans, worksheets,
presentations, charts, song sheets and testing
materials and more!
The Harrison County Community Foundation Board, Advisory Council and Staff
would like to express their sincere gratitude to Paul Beckort and Qudsia Davis for their
dedication and many years of service to the Foundation Board.
Graduating seniors, it’s getting close to that time to fill out your FAFSA, (Free Application for
Federal Student Aid). This is the document that determines if you are eligible for Pell Grants, Work
Studies, and Federal Student Loans. HCCF also looks at this document. The FAFSA will be available
online January 1st. Remember, whether you want to be a truck driver, beautician, nurse or accountant,
the HCCF has scholarships for vocational and 4 year programs.

YMCA holds Community Food drive to lower joining fees…..
The YMCA of Harrison County has partnered with Harrison County Community Services
(HCCS) to host a food drive for the month of December. During the month of December, new
members will get $5 off of their joining fee for every can of food, soup or box of cereal they bring to
the Y. This offer is good for amount of joining fee, up to $90.00 for a household membership. HCCS
provides many forms of crisis assistance to families in need within our county, whether from natural
disaster or impoverishment.
The North Harrison 8th grade Student Council President
Megan Smith presents James Goldman a check for The Betty R.
Goldman Memorial Relay For Life Fund. HCCF provided a 2:1
match for this contribution.
The council’s project was a haunted house for the students to
tour during lunch. “The student council members worked very hard
and gave up their free time to accomplish this project,” states
Jamie Polk, Student Council sponsor.
Members of the Harrison County Youth as Philanthropists Nolan Berkley and Rachel Butler conduct
the last phase of their November fundraiser at Lanesville Community Schools. Nolan and Rachel
held quarter wars in their school classrooms to help raise money for the youth philanthropy
endowment. The classroom teacher with the lowest score and the highest score from both Lanes-
ville Elementary & Lanesville Jr./Sr. High School had to karaoke in front of the student body.
Lanesville Community School Corporation faculty Harriette Seiler, Tim Bridges, Lindsay Davis and
Erin Green were the lucky “winners”!

Thanks to everyone for making our 2:1 matching gift program during the month of November
such a success. A total of over $285,000 in contributions was received with matching funds over
$565,000. The big winners are the many non-profit agencies and scholarship recipients who will
benefit from your generosity. Thanks again for supporting your community foundation.
