Patterns Past and Present: Arts of Panama Through October This exhibition displays examples of both ancient and modern Panamanian art, including ceramics, stone and metalwork, molas and garments from the Kuna people of San Blas Islands. Objects are drawn from collections of the Panama Canal Museum, University of Florida George A. Smathers Libraries, Orlando Museum of Art and the Harn Museum. Into the Fold: Contemporary Japanese Ceramics from the Horvitz Collection Through July 2016 Into the Fold highlights the diversity, creativity and technical virtuosity of 20th- and 21st-century ceramic artists working in Japan. More than 35 artists are represented, including many of Japan’s greatest living ceramicists. ongoing Highlights from the Modern Collection This exhibition presents highlights from the museum’s holdings of American, European and Latin American art spanning the mid- 19th century through the first half of the 20th century. Emigrating from Germany, he rapidly established himself as a leading portraitist in England photographing politicians, performers, painters, writers, socialites and the working class. This exhibition was organized by the National Portrait Gallery, London, in collaboration with Curatorial Assistance and the E.O. Hoppé Estate Collection and is circulated by Curatorial Assistance Traveling Exhibitions, Pasadena, California. ART CAMPSSummer Art CampsJune 8 – August 7Cultivate your child’s creativity with summer art camps. Taught by certified art instructors, students will enjoy gallery explorations and fun art-making projects using a variety of materials. Weekly sessions (full-day and half-day) are available for children ages 8 - 13, and a half-day session for teens ages 13 - 17 on July 6 - 10.

Recoding the “African Fashion” Aesthetic: The Adventures of Nana & HoneySunday, May 17, 3 p.m. Patricia Hilliard-Nunn, Lecturer, UF African American Studies will discuss how traditional African fashion influenced clothing designs of her grandmother and mother in the 1960’s.

Relationships are Sweet but Cutting the Clothis Painful: The Language of Clothing in GhanaSunday, June 14, 3 p.m. Join James Essegbey, Associate Professor, UF Department of Languages, Literatures and Cultures in a look at how clothes are discussed in Akan and Ewe, two major languages of Ghana, and what that tells us about their respective cultures.
