I am pleased to share with you an update of some of the important work being conducted at the College.

One of our most significant initiatives is the completion agenda. Set forth by President Obama, completion is the challenge to regain world leadership in the number of college degree and certificate holders. This means we need to find new ways to encourage students not only to attend

Harford, but to earn their degrees here. Our goal in 2010 was 650 completers; by 2025, it is 1,461 completers.

We continue to focus on programs to meet the rising demand in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) courses. We are also preparing to meet the region’s need for a prepared STEM workforce with initiatives targeting middle and high school students and their teachers, matching them with scientists, scholars, and entrepreneurs working in the field at APG and with members of the Northeastern Maryland Technology Council.

The College is also engaged in capital projects vital to the College and its students. Renovation of the Susquehanna Center with the addition of a 3,300 seat arena is well underway and should be completed next fall. We also are just beginning the design phase for a new Nursing and Allied Health Building which should be completed in 2015 and which will feature state-of-the-art teaching and lab facilities for those important programs.

While enrollment has increased by 25% over the last five years, the economy remains stagnant and a record number of students need scholarships to attend college. Last year, through the generous contributions of donors including our alunmi, the Harford Community College Foundation awarded $300,000 in scholarships to 276 students.

I hope you are enjoying our efforts to reconnect with you through this alumni newsletter, email, Facebook and the College website. You are an important part of the Harford family. If you haven’t taken the opportunity to engage with the College yet, I encourage you to contact the Office of College and Alumni Development today.

Sincerely,

Dennis Golladay, Ph.D.

PRESIDENT’S CIRCLE DINNER

On September 15, 2011, Dr. Dennis Golladay hosted President’s Circle donors for dinner at the beautiful Bulle Rock Residents’ Club.

The President’s Circle was established to recognize donors who have contributed at least $1,000 in a single fiscal year. These gifts enable students to attend Harford Community College, earn a degree, and improve the quality of life in their communities.

“The purpose of this event is to allow me the opportunity to demonstrate my appreciation to these donors. Without their assistance, many of our deserving students would not be able to pursue a college education,” said Dr. Golladay.

Dr. Golladay recognized College donors for their contribution to student success.

From The President

MORGAN STATE

President’s Circle

Harford Community College and Morgan State University presidents Dr. Dennis Golladay and Dr. David Wilson signed a Memorandum of Understanding to recognize the partnership between the two institutions on October 4, 2011. The agreement will provide a seamless transfer opportunity for students. They will be able to earn an Associate’s degree in Engineering from HCC and continue their studies on Harford’s campus, completing a baccalaureate degree in Electrical Engineering through Morgan. This will make it easier than ever for local residents to complete a four-year degree.
