PREFACE

The reason for the Industrial Orientation is to adapt the understudies with the down to earth learning of organization all in all and the business in which the organization is. Modern Orientation will help the administration understudies in getting furnished with the presentation required for settling on business choices.

Current Orientation gives the structure and expressways to perceiving and getting an adjacent vibe of the value chain practices and fortifying the business frameworks. The essential objective of this activity is to give overall presentation to the understudies, which will engage them to get some answers concerning the target countries and appreciate the business society. It not simply allows to the country think alone, also tap business opportunities at the same time in the country passed by.

The present day Orientation was the productive inclusion with respect to presentation and learning and I assume that in future, I will get needed results.

The first day of the trip began with Universiti Tun Abdul Razak (UNIRAZAK) popularly known as UNIRAZAK. 26th to 30th we were at Unirazak as a part of which we attended lectures and visited the textile museum. We learnt about Batak Printing. As a part of our exchange programme, we interacted with the authorities there who enlightened us about our scope of starting the business or expanding family businesses to Malaysia. The challenges faced in the family business, the horizons to explore and so on.

ABOUT GSB

 The history of the development of the Graduate School of Business goes beyond ten years when it was known as the Centre for Graduate Studies.

In 1998 the Centre for Graduate Studies was established to coordinate postgraduate studies and research activities at Universiti Tun Abdul Razak. In 2008 under the university's continuous improvement initiatives it was restructured and named as the Graduate School of Business (GSB). This is to realize the university's aspiration to be a centre that provides high quality education and training of managerial leaders with internationally acclaimed recognitions and accreditations. As a centre of excellence in postgraduate business education, the GSB specializes in providing business and management related programs which are relevant and purposeful in meeting the current and future needs of the industry. The programs are designed to provide real world practical learning experiences that incorporate both hard and soft skills as well as to be intellectually challenging with well-grounded theories on business and management.Associate Professor Dr. Cordelia Mason, Dean of the GSB says, "Being a relatively new addition to a stable of new schools in the newly restructured Universiti Tun Abdul Razak, we are very pleased and excited to be able to assist and serve our existing as well as potential students who yearn for new and state of the art knowledge in the business and business related areas. Programme Objectives

To encourage and guide students to pursue research which advances knowledge and discipline with relevant research skills;

To equip students with various research methods and forms of enquiry to explore the frontiers of knowledge in the field of business and management research;

Master of Philosophy (MPhil)

Programme Aim

The Master of Philosophy (MPhil) programme nurtures graduates to be researchers and scholars who are capable of developing critical and creative research perspectives for a given frontier of knowledge that may contribute to original research in the field of business and management that is beneficial to academia, industry, and society. The MPhil graduates will usually continue to pursue Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) programme.

To enable graduates to articulate and apply relevant theories and adopt the principles and best practices in the retail and hypermarket industry.

Master of Business Administration (Global Islamic Finance)

The MBA (Global Islamic Finance) is a programme conducted in collaboration with the International Business School Alliance (IBSA). The IBSA was established in 2003 and is a growing network of international business schools offering a dual master degree. The IBSA consists of 6 partner institutions with different specialisations, including:

UNIRAZAK (Global Islamic Finance), Bremen University of Applied Sciences, Germany (International Logistics & Supply Chain

Management), Universitat de Valencia, Spain (International Marketing), IBS Moscow, Russia (Management in Emerging Economies), University of North Carolina Wilmington, USA (International Finance and Investments), Novancia Business School Paris, France (International Business Development &

Consulting).

The IBSA enables students to study at two institutions in two different countries, receiving master's degrees from each of these institutions. For instance, students complete the first semester at any partner institutions and continue the second and final semesters at UNIRAZAK, or complete the first semester in UNIRAZAK and continue the second and final semesters in another partner institution.

Programme Aim

The MBA (Global Islamic Finance) programme prepares graduates to be professionals who are capable of developing logical, critical, and creative solutions to problems based on Shari'ah principles and rulings, and to recommend best practices of Islamic finance to be adopted in the Global Islamic financial services industry.

Programme Objectives

To enable graduates to articulate and apply Islamic finance theories and adopt the Shari'ah principles, rulings, and best practices to their organisation.

To enable graduates to engage in business and Islamic financial services activities with the Islamic finance professionals and practitioners in the community.

To enable graduates to formulate, communicate, and implement strategic thinking processes involving cross-cultural communication and sensitivity to the needs of different cultures.

ABOUT BRSBE

The Bank Rakyat School of Business and Entrepreneurship (BRSBE) is one of UNIRAZAK's unique founding schools, and is dedicated to providing quality education in entrepreneurial leadership in Malaysia. It was launched by YAB Dato' Sri Mohd Najib Tun Abdul Razak in December 2007.

BRSBE was formed with the view that entrepreneurial activity is one of the pillars of a strong and vibrant economy. Although big business is extremely vital for economic health and prosperity, a strong cadre of SMIs and SMEs is also essential to ensure a diverse economy and to provide the required support to big business companies and the community. BRSBE also recognises the fact that most wealth comes not from being employed, but by starting one's own business, and that great products and services begin with a single idea. To this end, it has collaborated with US-based Babson College which has been the leading business school in the field of entrepreneurship for the last 15 years. It is also partners with the Australian Graduate School of Entrepreneurship (AGSE).

At UNIRAZAK's BRSBE, entrepreneurs are developed and nurtured to identify opportunities and manage resources that result in wealth creation and/or value creation to the community. UNIRAZAK gained this exclusive partnership via its entrepreneurship development programmes and models which, although developed separately from Babson's, were very similar. The undergraduate students will also have the opportunity to visit Babson College in

Objectives

Develop students with the relevant analytical and critical thinking, oral and written communication skills which are relevant to their field of study.

position they are expected to assume in the world of work in the area of accounting, auditing and finance.

School of Entrepreneurship. Students will have a well balance attitude, values and philosophy in their life as extra

activities have been prepared specifically for them in building strong spiritual values as well as corporate values as a way of life. 

ENTREPRENEURSHIP, is an opportunity to gain exposure to the world of entrepreneurship through a holistic approach to education and training which will enable you to master the skills required to do business in Malaysia and globally. UNIRAZAK is the only university in Malaysia to offer entrepreneurship as an academic programme and which is also partners with Babson College, the #1 ranked school for entrepreneurship in the USA.

Bachelor of Business Administration (Islamic Financial Planning) (Hons)

Objective

to develop Financial Planners who are knowledgeable and competent in practicing Islamic principles in their field of work;

to develop Financial Planners who are able to comprehend the mechanisms in implementing Islamic disciplines in current scenario, in the areas of business and financial planning;

to develop Financial Planners who are competitive and are continuously acquiring knowledge through lifelong learning;

to produce Financial Executives who are capable of imparting information about Islamic banking and finance to a society with diversified cultures and customs; (this sentenced is being rephrased)

to produce Islamic Financial Planners who are professional and ethical in carrying out their duties, and who fulfill their responsibilities to the Creator, the country and its nation; and

to produce Financial Planners who think critically about their assessments and actions to enable them to overcome current issues pertaining to Islamic financial planning.

UNIRAZAK recognises the rising importance of Islamic Finance, which is projected to grow tremendously and become a major force in global economics. With this in mind, our curriculum is jointly developed by experts within academia and the financial industry. Objective

To produce professional managers and leaders in the globalised insurance industry. To equip students with general business operational knowledge in addition to the specialized

knowledge of the principles and practices of insurance. The programme is designed so that students not only learn in the lecture room but also gain

practical knowledge and experience through projects and assignments in the field with professional insurance experts. 

UNIRAZAK's Bachelor of Business Administration (Insurance) (Hons) is an innovative study programme which aims to prepare those who aspire to be professional managers and leaders in the globalised insurance industry. The programme is designed through collaboration with relevant institutions and leading experts in the field. Graduates will be equipped with general business operational knowledge as well as the specialised knowledge of the principles and practices of insurance.

The insurance industry, which is dynamic and ever changing, offers graduates excellent career opportunities for challenging professional work, innovation, and creative contribution for the advancement of their organisations. A key feature of this programme is the specialised technical courses which are in line with local practices and international standards. This is a programme that prepares to provide tax advice and management services to individuals and corporations. It includes instruction in tax law and regulations, tax record systems, individual and corporate income tax, tax planning, partnerships and fiduciary relationships, estates and trusts, property depreciation, capital gains and losses, dispositions, transfers, liquidity, valuation, and applications to specific tax problems.

ABOUT TARSOG

Graduates of TARSOG will complete their degree programme with internship stints intended to provide hands-on experience in managing and working in the public sector. Internship programmes will be developed in collaboration with public sector agencies and students will register after the completion of all required courses. 

Assoc. Prof. Dato' Mohd Ibrahim Hj. Abu Bakar, Dean of TARSOG says, "I can assure you that the study experience in TARSOG will be unique, enlightening, rewarding and enriching for everyone regardless of race, color and creed. In the course of developing its long term curriculum, TARSOG will also focus on the setting up of a resource centre that will culminate into a premier hub for governmental and public policy studies. The short-term plan will see TARSOG venturing into seminars, discourses and workshops on current issues pertinent to public policy and national development. This strategy would pave the way for TARSOG to link with potential customers and stakeholders and acquire their feedback to improve products and deliverables. These training events will also provide venues for experts in the related areas to meet while generating ideas for TARSOG. Prominent speakers and renowned experts making appearances in such events would not only benefit general participants but also provide forums for Universiti Tun Abdul Razak's students and academicians at large to update and immerse themselves in the most current topics and findings in the related fields. The ideas deliberated in these forums, discourses and round table discussions will be properly documented and published for the purpose of references for future research and policy making.

Students will have face-to-face English classes with our instructors from Monday to Thursday with excursions on Friday and a full day excursion each Saturday. Students are given the Sunday off to do their own activities.

To enroll in EIP, students must also first sit for the placement test to determine their proficiency level in order for our instructors to know their students better. Unlike IEP, EIP follows a General English curriculum that has a heavy focus on listening and speaking, with light reading and writing tasks. The ultimate goal of EIP is to enable students to communicate fluently and confidently at the end of the programme. Malaysian Batik

Malaysian Batik is batik textile art of Malaysia, especially on the east coast of Malaysia

(Kelantan, Terengganu and Pahang). The most popular motifs are leaves and flowers.

Malaysian batik depicting humans or animals are rare because Islam norms forbid animal

images as decoration. However, the butterfly theme is a common exception. The Malaysian

batik is also famous for its geometrical designs, such as spirals. The method of Malaysian

batik making is also quite different from those of Indonesian Javanese batik, the pattern is

larger and simpler, it seldom or never uses canting to create intricate patterns and rely heavily

on brush painting method to apply colours on fabrics. The colours also tend to be lighter and

more vibrant than deep coloured Javanese batik.

In line with the Malaysia concept, the Malaysian government is now endorsing Malaysian

batik as a national dress to every level of the general population, by having local designers to

create new batik designs which reflect the Malaysia idea.

Learnings: I learnt the uniqueness of a workmanship I had never seen, the excellence and

system with which man made craftsmanship is done in such a fragile way and complete

flawlessness. The strategy in which they guarantee insignificant mistake in the entire process

and guarantee that the work is done as fast as could reasonably be expected.

About Pewter: Pewter is an alloy composed primarily of tin. The world’s fourth most precious metal after platinum, gold and silver, it becomes pewter with the addition of small amounts of antimony and copper. Al tableware products produced are food safe as Royal Selangor pewter is lead free. Learnings: We were given a chance to make our own bowl. The perfection with which these artists work. They eye for delicate perfection is something that can leave you awestruck.

The Mud show at Malaysia:

It all began in 1880 during the mining boom. The glint of tin promised riches and attracted an influx of pioneers from across the Asian region to the muddy junction of the two rivers, Sungai Lumpur (now Sungai Gombak) and Sungai Kelang. We meet Mamat, Meng and Muthiah, three friends who came to this frontier town of Kuala Lumpur in search of opportunities and a new life. Through their journey we encounter a host of colourful characters, each with their own enduring personalities and stories. Together these characters and stories form the cultural mosaic of what we all now know as modern Kuala Lumpur.

Act 1Three friends gather in the town marketplace, and over a glass of tea, share their hopes and dreams for the future. A chance meeting with a businessman presents them with promises of wealth and prosperity. Will they pursue this once in a lifetime opportunity or forge their own path instead?

Concept: When the opportunity arrived for them to pitch an idea to the Kuala Lumpur City Hall for a new culture-based show to be staged at Panggung Bandaraya, they were beyond excited. At one point or another, they have built their careers around this theatre. The opportunity to bring new life to Panggung Bandaraya was something they could not take lightly. The original brief was to create a show that will be performed daily, for local theatre audiences as well as foreign visitors to the city.They took this brief from City Hall and enhanced it with what they do best – a memorable musical. Enfiniti Vision Media, as creative content producers, did not want to create just any cultural show, they wanted the pitch to stand out and be one-of-its-kind. They wanted to celebrate the people of Kuala Lumpur and create something that they could be proud of. This is after all ‘our’ story and everyone who has ever called KL home is part of that history. Hence:

MUD: The Story of Kuala Lumpur

The vibrant cultural musical show was born. They believe, what won them over was how they retained the original brief and treated it with theatrical magic, a breathtaking sensory feast, and deep in the heart of it: a Malaysian story with a strong emotional connection to the people of yesterday, today, and tomorrow.The concept of this show started with a simple word: ‘lumpur’. A Malay word that means ‘mud’. From this, they centered the research on the origin of ‘mud’ itself – the convergence of two rivers (Gombak River and Klang River) where Kuala Lumpur began. They discovered how these rivers gave life to the development of the surrounding area. They knew that Gombak River was then named Lumpur River. However, as they walked in the area during our research, they realized that major buildings in the area were not only built around the same time; it also shared similarities in design and material.In 1881, following a fire and later flood destroying a major part of Kuala Lumpur, Frank Swettenham, the new British Resident, decreed in 1882 that the rebuilding of Kuala Lumpur was to only use tiled roof and bricks. A new area was opened to manufacture bricks nearby to support the demand – an area now known as Brickfields. With all this information on our table, they sifted through it all and came to this discovery: ‘mud’ left behind from the disasters of 1881 would have dried as hard as bricks, therefore “from mud this town began, and from mud did it rise again”.

Excited by this connection, they then looked at the people who populated this city and the challenges they faced during this period in history. Kuala Lumpur was a melting pot for immigrants from all around the region. It became clear to us that we needed to humanize these findings by honoring the faces and lives of the people that was at the beginning of Kuala Lumpur’s future.It was a full circle with us. The history of yesterday led to the history of today. By looking into the past, we discovered what transformed Kuala Lumpur into the vibrant and diverse metropolitan it is today. They reflected on the history of our forefathers, the landscape of the town along with its architecture, culture, and nature. The deeper we looked, the more we discovered. There were histories that they did not even know about. And as they combined these elements, they realized that they had a deeper appreciation for Kuala Lumpur by understanding the foundation of this city.

Learnings: They gave us a brief thought regarding the historical backdrop of Malaysia. About how the entire place really appeared. They gave us a superior knowledge to the entire Malaysian society and its past. How a city reproduced itself from nothingness.

Maglev Train

The Shanghai Maglev Train or Shanghai Transrapid is a magnetic levitation train, or maglev line that operates in Shanghai, China. Power supply: The power supply system includes substations, trackside feeder cables, switch stations and other power supply equipment. First, high voltage alternating current is taken from the 110KV public power grid, stepped down to 20KV and 1.5KV via step-down transformer, then converted into direct current via rectifier, then converted back to variable frequency a c current between 0 and 300Hz via rectifier. After step-up, the current will be fed to longstator winding on the guideway via guideway cables and switch stations, generating propulsion force between the stator and on-board magnets. The rectification equipment, conversion equipment and motor stators etc. of the maglev system are all installed on the ground. Charcoal Bamboo factory:We visited the bamboo factory at Shanghai where we saw a wide range of products made out of bamboo ranging from soaps, charcoal, clothes, towels, inner wears etc. It was made with utmost creativity and minimal wastage of resources.

Learnings: This was a very good example of how a wide range of products can be made from a very basic material. A perfect example of optimum utilization of sources.

Nanjing Street

Nanjing Road is the main shopping street of Shanghai, China, and is one of the world's busiest shopping streets. Nanjing Road is the world's longest shopping district; around 5.5km long, and attracts over 1 million visitors daily. East Nanjing Road is a dedicated commercial zone. At its eastern end is the central section of the Bund, featuring the Peace Hotel. Immediately west of the Bund precinct was traditionally the hub of European-style restaurants and cafes, although in recent years these have become less of a feature as the demographics of visitors to Nanjing Road have shifted from affluent local residents to visitors from around the country. Close by is the Central Market, a century-old outdoor market today specialising in electronic components and digital media. Further west is the Nanjing Road pedestrian mall. Located here are most of Shanghai's oldest and largest department stores, as well as a variety of domestic retail outlets, and some traditional eateries with a long history.

East Nanjing Road ends at People's Park, formerly the Shanghai Race Course. Opposite the park are some of Shanghai's prestigious historic hotels, including Park Hotel. West Nanjing Road begins here, and features a number of upmarket malls, office buildings, the Shanghai Exhibition Centre, and shops. This area also previously featured a number of large mansions and estates, most of which are today either demolished or used by the government. West Nanjing Road, near Jing'an Temple, has witnessed constant development over the past ten years. This area is now host to several five star hotels, upscale shopping centres, restaurants and prime office buildings.

China's premier shopping street, 3.4-mile-long Nanjing Road, starts at the Bund in the east and ends in the west at the junction of Jing'an Temple and Yan'an West Street. Today Nanjing Road is a must-see metropolitan destination attracting thousands of fashion-seeking shoppers from all over the world. After the Opium War (1839-1842), Shanghai became a treaty port. Nanjing Road was first the British Concession, then the International Settlement. Importing large quantities of foreign goods, it became the earliest shopping street in Shanghai

Over time, Nanjing Road has been restructured, undergoing significant change. For shopping convenience, its eastern end has an all-weather pedestrian arcade. Big traditional stores no longer dominate the market since modern shopping malls, specialty stores, theaters, and international hotels have mushroomed on both sides of the street. Today over 600 businesses on Nanjing road offer countless famous brands, superior quality, and new fashions. KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, and other world-famous food vendors line both sides of the street. Upscale stores include Tiffany, Mont Blanc, and Dunhill. In addition, approximately a hundred traditional stores and specialty shops still provide choice silk goods, jade, embroidery, wool, and clocks.

Huangpu River CruiseHuangpu River, a symbol of Shanghai, originates in Dianshan Lake and empties into the Yangtze River at Wusongkou. It is 114 kilometres long and 400 meters wide. It is ice-free year round. The river divides Shanghai into east and west. It is a silent eyewitness to Shanghai's history and its development.A spectacular sight is that the two suspension bridges, Nanpu Bridge and Yangpu Bridge, appear to arch over the Oriental Pearl TV Tower, resembling 'Two dragons playing with a ball'. The west bank (Puxi) of the Huangpu River is the cultural, residential and entertainment center of Shanghai. The Bund, Monument to the People's Heroes, Waibaidu Bridge and the

oldest park in Shanghai - Huangpu Park, are located on the west bank. In addition, many historical buildings left over from Shanghai's colonial days have been preserved. The east bank of the river (Pudong) is the newer district of Shanghai and its financial and commercial hub. Steel and glass structures are abundant here. The Oriental Pearl TV Tower, Jin Mao Tower, skyscraper hotels, offices and malls of the Lujiazui Financial Zone are located on this side of the river.When the sun sets, the river is veiled in the glittery

neon lights on its banks. Cruising on the river in the evening, visitors can experience its silence and beauty under the moonlight.

The mighty tidal wave of progress in China is pulling in people from all over the world. Indians who have from times immemorial shown sturdy migrant tendencies - and are actually all over the world - are arriving daily in a steady stream at the glittering port of Shanghai. And with them are coming not only the amazing management, engineering, accounting, market research and entrepreneurial skills but also the rich colors of Indian heritage, culture and music from which they cannot be separated.

Indian Association in Shanghai, working under the auspices and patronage of the Consulate General of India, formally came into being in 2006 when the original two Indian organizations- SHILA (Shanghai Indian Ladies Association) and SHIBA (Shanghai Indian Business men Association) - united to work under the same banner. It was a landmark occasion and every one celebrated this perfect union which was to greatly energize the Indian community. 

Their yearly charity events have evolved into being calendar events on the Shanghai social scene. Who can forget the wonderful response we got for programs Passage to India, Namaste from India and Bollywood Dreamz, followed by the frenzy generated by the Usha Uthup Nite. The success story written with these shows culminated into an evening last year on the occasion of Diwali when top notch artists of international stature like the Colonial Cousins were amongst us to perform. Their ambition is to keep up this wonderful work and bring more Indian artists and simply get Shanghai rocking!! 

Smaller events like Navratri and Dandiya parties, Chat parties on river cruises, etc continue to lend themselves to making Indians feel closer to their homeland. 

Business events organized periodically have helped to provide value addition and achieve financial objectives for the Indian conglomerate present in Shanghai. Be it a talk by Professor Yang which provided an excellent prelude to the Indo-China talk on Business collaboration or an Insurance Seminar with guest speakers from Jeevan Beema Nigam (LIC), AIG, Abacare or a visit by dignitaries such as Deputy Chief Minister Mr. R.R. Patil or Justice Sirpurkar, Indian Associations has tried to cover as much ground as possible to cater to a gamut of interests of the Indians residing in Shanghai. 

Sporting events which have been organized have featured a wide variety of activities involving all age groups. Cricket, tennis, badminton and table tennis tournaments are held periodically providing sports enthusiasts a chance to compete and hone their skills on the course in a spirit of camaraderie and friendly rivalry. Their members have trained for and run the Shanghai Marathon for a few years.

Shanghai World Financial Centre

Standing in the center of Lujiazui Finance & Trade Zone in Pudong, Shanghai World Financial Center (SWFC) was completed in August 28, 2008, being the tallest skyscraper in

China. Having 101 floors with a height of 492 meters (about 1,614 feet), it ranked the top in the heights of roof and usable floor by the time when it was built, announced by the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat (CTBUH).

Meaning to be a magnet of the world's fund, the building brags elements of five star money related focuses, ready to showcase fiscal gifts, social and craftsmanship displays and data from everywhere throughout the world. Current office offices, touring floor at 474 meters (around 1,555 feet) over the ground, extravagance inn and multifunction meeting offices are all accessible here, and more than twenty multinational money related establishments will move into the ultra-cutting edge building. More than forty undertakings from Japan and American contributed together to develop this tall structures building. The touring lobby was opened to open on August 30. It positioned the tallest touring corridor on the planet when it was manufactured.

Like all skyscrapers in the world, security is a major issue of particular concern. The capability to withstand fire, wind, impacts, earthquakes and thunder is considered thoroughly at the very beginning of the design. SWFC can survive a massive 8 magnitude earthquake. There are fireproofed floors for escape; a dozen sets of obstacle indicator lights to warn low flying aircraft, as well as two wind dampers to reduce wind acceleration by 40%. In addition to lightning conductors covering the building, its glazed glass skin also protects against lightning and looks good too.
