“Runners to your Mark!”

By: Jose Hernandez

This year Hardesty Schools has co-opted with Balko

Schools for track and field. There are four students participat-

ing: Madison Gibson, Alexis Faris, Brendan Scott, and my-

self. We all have had our fair share of success. Brendan and I

participated in the throwers relay in Meade, Kansas and won

the gold medal. Madison, being the most successful, has got-

ten two 3rd place medals in the 800 meter relay, a 1st place in

the 800 meter relay, and a 1st place in the mile relay. Alexis

and I have both greatly improved on our time on the 800 me-

ter run. We will strive and continue to improve with more of

practice. The High School Regional Track Meet will be on

May 3, at Laverne and the State Track Meet will be May 9-10

in Midwest City.

“Splat!” It was that time of year again for the annual Egg Drop at Hardesty. The sixth graders

competed against one another to see who makes the best contraption for their egg while it drops to its

doom. Mr. Cano was our egg dropper for this year’s event. He climbed the tower many feet up in the

air. This year was an exciting year for the elementary as they all gathered outside to see who would

win the 2014 Egg Drop! Kaley Whisenhunt, Serenity Gothard, and Jocelyn Amador were the last

three finalists. On the second drop, the eggs belonging to Kaley and Serenity dropped to their death.

Jocelyn's egg lived through the torture of the second round, but it was sadly broken after being

dropped on the third round. Good job to all the sixth graders and a big congratulations to Jocelyn

Amador for winning this year’s Egg Drop contest!

Since my employment at the theater, I have watched many trailers to upcoming movies. In my

opinion, May is going to be the most exciting month for movies this year. Here are a few movies I recom-

To me, music is a very interesting and alluring subject. There are many interesting facts about

music which may not be widely known. Some are about health, others about famous musical icons, but, all-in-

all, I hope you enjoy these random facts.

Did you know it has been proven that a person’s heart conforms to the beat of the music they are listen-

ing to? Also, if you listen to music while exercising, you can physically improve your performance. Scientific

studies also show that music helps plants grow faster.

Did you know that Elvis Presley did not write any of his songs? This is very significant to me since he

has been deemed the King of Rock ‘n Roll. I also found it interesting that the inventor of the extremely famous

Stratocaster guitar, Leo Fender himself, could not play the guitar. Ironically, Barry Manilow did not write the

song “I Write the Songs,” one of his greatest hits. Finally, none of the Beatles’ band members could read mu-

sic.

The world’s smallest guitar is about the size of a cell. It was made at Cornell University in Ithaca, New

York. It is made of crystalline silicon and has six strings that are about 50 nanometers wide. If these strings are

plucked they make a sound that cannot be heard by the human ear. The world’s largest piano is a Challen Con-

cert Grand, made in 1935. It is 11 feet, 8 inches long and weighs over a ton. It is currently located in France.

I am going to end this on a slightly darker note. Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame musician Jimi Hendrix’s

headstone has a fender Stratocaster carved on it. The headstone of Avenged Sevenfold’s late drummer James

“The Rev” Sullivan reads, “He used to drum with us. He’s drumming with God now.” For a positive grand fi-

nale, Frank Sinatra’s headstone reads, “The Best Is Yet To Come.”

Book Reviews

By: Felicia Bowman

V O L U M E 5 , I S S U E 9

Books broaden the mind and spark the imagination. From fantasy to biography, books can teach some-

thing about life. Many books have great stories that open the mind to new ideas. Below

are two books that are remarkably good for teenagers and adults alike.

The Museum of Intangible Things by Wendy Wunder is an enthralling story of

two best friends, Hannah and Zoe, and their wild journey. It all begins when Zoe con-

vinces Hannah to go on a road trip after Hannah’s abusive father takes all of her college

fund money.

Zoe gives herself a mission to teach Hannah about the intangible qualities she

lacks.. How you ask? By sleeping in an IKEA store and releasing the “Kermit the Frog”

balloon just before the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

Eden is a dark, cold, sunless planet on which hundreds of people live; but without a

sun, how do they survive? They live under many trees that give off light and heat. This

alien environment will immediately catch your attention as every animal and plant proves

this insane planet more and more uninviting and hostile. Dark Eden by Chris Becket will

keep readers intrigued from page one.

Miles for Matt

BY: Abram Rivera

We would like to invite the community to come and support Matthew McCormick and

his family at “Miles for Matt,” a fun walk or run event on Saturday, May 17, at Hardesty

Schools, beginning at 10:00 a.m. Matt is the father of 5 children: Caitlynn, Abigail, Chase,

Maddox, and Bryson. He is an alumni of Hardesty Schools, Class of 2000.

Matt was diagnosed with stage 4 cancer (K-RHS mutated Ileocecal Small Bowel Ade-

nocarcinoma December 1, 2013 where he underwent his first surgery to remove a tumor. On

April 22, 2014, he completed his second surgery, and he is currently being treated at the Can-

cer Treatment Center of America in Chicago, IL.

“Miles for Matt” will not be a competitive event, but rather a gathering of family,

friends, and community members to show our support for one of our own. All those compet-

ing in the color run will be “showered with color” as they pass each mile marker with a lunch

follow the run.

All monies raised will be given to the McCormick family for continued support

through his battle and recovery. We encourage everyone to come out and support Matt and

the participants. A “Miles for Matt” t-shirt and lunch may be purchased by anyone, not just

those entering the 5K event. An order form is included in this issue of the Bison Bullet for

your convenience. We look forward to seeing you on Saturday, May 17 at Hardesty Schools

for a fun day of running and a great day of encouragement and support for the McCormick
