Multiplication as equal groups. A group is an equal group if it has the same number of items as all of the other groups.
Today we are making equal groups, this means that all groups will have the same number of
objects in each group. You will start with 20 or 30 objects and see if they fit into 2 equal groups.
Multiplication means 'equal groups of' and is written with a multiplication sign: '×'. For example:
4 × 4 can be read as '4 equal groups of' 4. This lesson focuses on creating equal groups to begin
forming an understanding of multiplication.
You will need:
• Either 2 pieces of paper, the ‘Make 2 Groups’ worksheet with 2 circles or a
workbook.
• 20 small objects (year 1) or 30 small objects (year 2) such as pasta, lego or even
small pieces of paper. Steps to follow:
1. Draw 2 circles onto a piece of paper or print out the attachment provided. 2. Get 10 of your objects
Can you sort these objects into 2 equal groups? How many are in each group? Put
the objects inside the circles you drew to show that you can make equal groups. 3. Repeat this activity starting with different numbers up to 20 or 30
4. Write your answers into your homework book. Eg
6 = 2 groups of 3

PDH – Triple Zero safety
Triple Zero is the number we call to get help from the police, the fire brigade and the
ambulance service.
It is important that we remember this number so that we can get help when there is an
emergency.
To help you remember you will need to:
1. Draw a poster to show three big zeros. Inside each zero draw a police officer, a
fire brigade person and an ambulance officer.
2. Next draw their special vehicle driving around the zero, so draw a police car racing
around the police officer zero, a fire truck racing around the fire brigade zero and
finally an ambulance racing around the ambulance officer zero.
3. Write your name, your phone number and your home address onto the poster in
big dark letters. Your job is to learn your full name, your contact number and your
home address so that you can tell the officer on the phone when they ask for this.
This is very important learning so your mum and dad will help you to learn this.
4. Display your poster on the fridge or somewhere important in the house so that you
can practice learning your details and the triple zero number.
Hopefully you will never have to use it, but just in case you do you will be prepared and
ready to get help when there is an emergency. Remember you only call this number if
there is an emergency!

Wacky Words- write your spelling words in different directions, filling up the whole page. Use different colours to practise your spelling words.
Reading 1. Your goal today is to listen to and then talk about your favourite part of the story
“There’s a Sea in My Bedroom”. Ask a family member to play this story on their
mobile phone. The link to type in is: bit.ly/2yUbAIg to enjoy the book read by Ms
Cacciotti. 2. Tell your family member the answer to these questions:
Who was afraid of the sea? Why did David like the sea? Do you like the sea? Why/why
not? Did you enjoy the story? What was your favourite part?
3. Draw and explain your favourite part of the story in your homework book.
Writing We are learning how to write a procedure. Procedures tell us step-by-step how to do something. A procedure has a:
• TITLE (eg. How to make a Jam Sandwich), • INGREDIENTS/MATERIALS which is a list of all the things you need (eg. Jam,
butter bread, knife, plate) • METHOD which means numbered steps in order to describe what we need to do.
(eg. Step 1. Get 2 slices of bread and put them on the plate. Step 2. Use the knife to spread some butter onto one slice of bread.)
Draw a picture and write a sentence about a time when you or your family might have used a procedure at home?

Science - Push and Pull Forces
In this lesson we are learning to identify forces in games.
To be successful in this lesson you will able to:
• Give 3 examples of a push force in a game.
• Give 3 examples of a pull force in a game.
Think about the different games you play in the playground or at home. There are many
forces in play that make your games work. For example, you are using a push force when
you hit a tennis ball with a racket however you are using a pull force to aim the arrow at
the target in archery.
Activity: Draw 3 pull examples and 3 push examples that you would use during a game. Use arrows to show the direction of the force being used in the game.

Reading
The goal of this lesson is to describe your visit to a beach.
To be successful you will need to describe:
• What you saw at the beach (sights)
• What you heard at the beach (sounds)
• How it felt at the beach (feelings and touch)
• What you did at the beach (events and activities)
Listen to the story “There’s a Sea in My Bedroom” told by Ms Cacciotti (Link:
bit.ly/2yUbAIg)
Make a brief speech describing your visit to the beach. Write your simple speech into your
book. If you have time, draw a picture that shows the things you have described.
Writing: Procedure sequencing We are learning to put the parts of a procedure together in the right order. Have you enjoyed a milkshake before? What is your best flavour? Chocolate? Strawberry? Today you will be putting together the procedure on how to make a milkshake by going to the worksheet called ‘How to make a milkshake’, then cutting on the dotted lines so that you can glue the parts of the procedure into your book in the right order. Remember the title goes first, then a list of the things you need. After that comes the method or the steps you need to take. You can glue the matching pictures next to each step. Has this hard work made you thirsty? Maybe you could ask a family member to help you make your favourite milkshake at home. Yummy yum yum.

Crazy Colours- Write each of your spelling words in different colours in your book.
Reading See Appendix 4 for today’s reading activity.
Your goal today is to put the events of the story “There’s a sea in my bedroom” in the right
order.
To be successful you need to:
• Put the sentences in an order that matches the story.
Your task today is to: 1. Read the sentences from the story. 2. Cut and paste the
sentences. 3. Put the sentences in the right order. 4. Check your work. 5. Read the
sentences to a family member or carer to practise your reading.
Writing Your goal today is to identify verb words and adverbs used in procedures. To be successful you will need to colour all the verbs in the procedure. A verb is a doing word like mix, cut, put, slice, fold, pour. An adverb tells us more about a verb like quickly, gently carefully, slowly. The steps in a procedure always begin with a verb or adverb. For example. Step 1. Carefully cut the paper along the dotted line. Your task today is to find the action verbs and adverbs (Year 2) in the procedure you sequenced yesterday and colour them in. Challenge: Can you think of any more action verbs and adverbs that we might use when we write a procedure? Write these in your homework book.

Learning about Area.
In this lesson we are learning to measure the area of a shape.
To be successful you will be able to
• Place the same small object side by side without gaps to measure the area
• Count the number of times this small object can cover the area of the shape
What is area? Area is the space inside a shape. When we measure the area of a shape,
we measure how much space is on the flat surface.
Harcourt Public School 8 Stage 1 Offline Learning Activities
For example:
Year 1 Activity:
In your homework book draw a shape for example, a square or a rectangle. You could
trace around a tissue box to make your rectangle. Find a small object such as pegs or
playing cards. Use this object to see how many times it can cover your shape. Make sure
your object does not overlap and has no gaps when you measure. Record your results in
your homework book.
For example:
• I drew a rectangle and 8 pegs covered the rectangle.
Now draw a different shape and find another object to cover this shape.
Year 2 Activity:
In your homework book draw a shape for example, a square or a rectangle. You could
trace around a tissue box to make your rectangle. Find a small object such as pegs or
playing cards. Use this object to see how many times it can cover your shape. First you
will estimate how many times you think that object will cover your shape. Next you will
measure. Make sure your object does not overlap and has no gaps when you measure.
Record your results in your homework book.
You will write 2 different sentences.
For example:
• I estimated that 6 pegs will cover the rectangle.
• I measured the area and found that 8 pegs covered the rectangle.
Now draw a different shape and find another object to cover this shape. Remember to
write your estimation first then your actual measurement.

Geography
In this lesson we are learning the capital cities of Australia.
To be successful you will be able to locate the capital cities of Australia on a map.
1. You need to label the capital cities in Australia using a different colour for each
capital city on the worksheet. See the appendix. Remember our capital cities are:
Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne, Hobart, Adelaide, Perth, Darwin and Canberra.
2. You need to draw a small footprint next to any capital city you and your family have
been to. What a wonderful memory to share if you have.

Ask a parent or carer to test you on your spelling words. Write your spelling words in your homework book. How did you go? Are there some words that you need to practise over the weekend?
Reading for enjoyment.
Your goal today is to find a comfy spot at home (maybe make a pillow pile) to read a new

The link is: https://bit.ly/3aMP9lh (letter L and H is at the end)
Did you hear the mistake in the story? What was the blooper? Silly Mrs Emmans.
Writing - Punctuation In today’s punctuation activity you will read each sentence and decide if it needs a full stop or a question mark at the end. Remember when you ask a question to find out an answer you need to put a question mark at the end of the sentence. If the sentence is a statement, then you need a full stop at the end of the sentence. Good luck.
Tip: To help you decide, read the sentence out loud to someone so that you can hear
whether it is a question or not. Did it need an answer?
