Happy
New Year
2019!!
A Message From the President Happy New Year, SCSC Family!
I hope that everyone enjoyed your holiday celebrations. It is my wish that your celebrations were memorable-- whether you spent them relaxing locally with family and friends, traveling around the region or at home watching holiday movies. We all know how fast the year flies by. Before you know it, summertime will be here. I want to take a moment to remind everyone that soon we will be posting board positions that will need to be filled for next year. The SCSC board year runs from June 1st through May 31st. Ballot and election information will be passed along soon, so keep an eye out if you are interested in a position for the upcoming board year.
So, for our monthly program we thought that we would try something different in January. The program will be a luncheon on January 15th at the Swabian Special Event Center. The theme for this event is “Upcyle/DIY.” If you are interested in being crafty but never thought you had it in you, this luncheon is for you! I do know that we have members out there with amazing talents I saw that first hand at the December event with the decorated wreaths for the barracks. Information will be available on the website soon.
This is a busy time of year for the club! The Trips and Tours ladies are at it again with another fabulous trip planned in February to Worms. The SIGs are adding a new bowling group. Grants and Scholarships are moving right along. I don’t want to give you all the information at once, so check out the website for more information. SCSC membership is still available until March 1. After this date membership will open back up on June 1st for the next year.
Lastly, I want to share with you something new for SCSC, which it is known as the Fairy God-mother Project. This is a community service project that will benefit area high school girls who will be attending Prom in April. The SCSC will collect formal gowns, shoes, jewelry, and other accessories from January 15 to March 5. We are extremely excited to host a communi-ty event where young ladies will be able to shop for their prom attire FOR FREE. Be on the lookout for information about that special event. Please reach out to Faith Santiago

Membership News
Welcome New and Returning Members of the SCSC!
Do you know of someone who is new to the area and is looking to make new
friends while having some fun, all the while supporting the American
community? Then, please have them join the SCSC!
It only takes a few minutes of their time to complete the online membership
application! The best part of joining the SCSC, is that we do so much for the
community! Just last year we gave out $334,018.04 in the form of welfare
grants and scholarships! Of course, we couldn’t have done this without the
continuous support of our awesome SCSC members!
The link to join is:
https://stuttgartspousesclub.org/join-us
In addition, if you or another member of the SCSC are not receiving emails yet
from Membership,
Reservations, Special Interest Coordinators and/or the Newsletter, then please
contact Membership at [email protected] immediately! We want
everyone to be informed of the upcoming events and since everyone is not on
Facebook, a correct email address is a vital part of the
information conduit!
In closing, thank you again for supporting the SCSC! We look forward to a fun-
filled year with each of you!

Registration began on December 1st for the Swiss Wine and Raclette for January 11th &
25th.
Swiss wines and raclette are the perfect tasty combination that will make this cozy win-
ter evening an
unforgettable experience.
Three different, very special raclette varieties from Valais are served with the tradi-
tional accompaniments: potatoes, silver onions and cornichons. The raclette comes with
the legendary Valais Raclette ovens prepared to taste. There will be an aperitif as well
as four matching Swiss wines and a digestif. Moderator Björn Seidel of Passion & Wine
looks forward to welcoming us and wishes us "en guete and pröschtli" today.
Only 24 spots available. Price: per participant $93 (may change to $95 based on curren-
cy conversion that week) incl. Aperitif, wine, water, Raclette meal, digestif, presentation
and handout.
Please reach out for opportunities of spot openings/cancellations as we get closer.
Don't forget to wear your plaid!

SCSC Cooking CLUB SIG
The Stuttgart Community Spouses’ Club is excited to announce our annual basket auction! This is sure to be a spirited event that will benefit our entire community in multiple ways.
Our primary goal is, of course, to support our philanthropic mission. The majority of our profits will go to deserving individuals and groups throughout the Stuttgart area. A minority of the monies raised will help reduce some of our own operating expenses. Our final goal is to encourage a sense of community by providing a lively event involving everyone.
This is an opportunity for your unit, club, school, group, sports team, or private organization to support our efforts in a couple of ways. First, please consider donating a basket to our si-lent auction. (On a side note, your donated basket may not contain alcohol.) Next, please en-courage members of your organization to attend our event, and even get a team together for our trivia contest. This is a great way not only to support our Stuttgart community, but also to build camaraderie within your own group!
Basket donations must be completed and delivered to our event chair, Camey McGurk,
[email protected], by Wednesday, January 30th. The theme for this year’s event is ‘Team Trivia’, which will include lots of “pregame” ex-citement upon arrival. Not all trivia will be sports related. Tickets will be available for pur-chase on our website beginning on January 22nd. Be sure to bring your spouse and wear your favorite team attire! (Prizes awarded for most spirit!) You may reserve a table for teams of six to eight. Any questions you may have can be directed to the event chair. Some sample basket donations from previous years are Lego Mania, Tipsy Toboggan, Tween Sleepover, Kids’ Books, Gourmet Italian, French Goodies, Starbucks, Wine, Read With Me, Apres Ski, Snow Day, US/Europe: Strong Together, Vino Bucket, Pinterest Obsession, Beer:30, Poker Night, A Taste of Italy, Christmas Cooking, Crafting Mania, Holiday Enter-taining, Japanese Goodies, The Best of St. Louis, Holiday Treats and Sweets, Patch Hight School Spirit, and Portrait Sitting. These are merely suggestions, go ahead, get creative. Please feel free to post and disseminate the invitation to your group. We look forward to seeing you in February!

Book Club - – The gatherings are casual and although there is a list of discus-
sion questions, we usually just discuss the book and have enough to say without needing them. We range from some members bringing great insight to others just trying to remember what they've read long enough to join in! We choose our titles two months in advance so that there is time to order the book or rent it from the library. We discuss the book we've just completed and choose another that will be discussed two months later, having already chosen the "on deck" book.

Then this SIG is for you. Here we'll learn to know and use our cameras better while exploring different places and spaces according to the monthly topic of the group, in search of the "perfect" shot. Imagination is our only limit. The group is open to everyone, whether a beginner, intermediate or a profes-sional. You only have to meet two requirements: to love photography and a willing-ness to have fun. If you are working and have no free time during the day you can still sign up as we'll go shooting at night as well (long exposure to fun, is a lot of fun). Whether this is your first PCS to Europe or perhaps you have been here before, we all want to make the most of our Eu-ropean tour! Wouldn't it be nice to share a travel tip or tidbits with those who are just getting started or with those who have been there, done that? Each month, we will pick a different country! Come learn a thing or two, or better yet share your personal experience of visiting that country! Let's help each other with our bucket lists, and in the process get to know each other and have a little fun!
