Offerings still needed to cover operating expenses

I pray everyone is doing well. Our church expenses continue, even though we are not there. In March, we received offerings of $32,486 which sounds good, but this was $6,500 less than we

had projected for the month.

We have been given a two-month moratorium on our pen-sion and health benefits by the district. The Trustees have done everything possible to reduce our utilities, and we did not pay our monthly apportionment of

$3,500 to the conference.

If you are able, please continue to make your usual donation by mail. If you have continued to do

this, we thank you!.

We are still looking for a Nursery Director

Even though we’re not physi-cally at church right now, we still need to fill our Nursery Director position in preparation for when we return. We are committed to caring for our current and future families and their young children by providing a quality nursery

ministry.

This person will be responsible for overall supervision of the program, including coverage of three weekend services and special events. Applicants must be at least 21 years of age, have child-care experience, and leader-

ship and organizational skills.

We would love to fill this position with someone who is currently part of our church family. If there are no viable in-house candidates by May 5, we will begin advertising in the

community.

In this time of social isolation and creative church services, kudos to the tech team and our pastors for bringing us the mes-

sage each week!

We need to remember that even though the church doors are closed, some things are still ongoing – like the utilities, general maintenance, grass cutting, etc. And just like at home, it requires income to

cover our expenses.

If you began tithing in January, don’t let up now just because you are worshipping from home. You are still the church, and, if you are able, we still need your contributions. Many folks have gotten laid off and their paychecks have stopped, but others are either “essential’ or are working from home with a cat for a paper weight and are still being paid. So please, keep sending in your checks or go online and do your banking

electronically – it is sooo easy!

And don’t forget that stimulus check – you can tithe on that, too. Blessings on you all until

we can “hug it out” in person.

You see, “glad” is a handy thing to be in God’s kingdom. Those who are glad are able to rejoice and shout for joy with an

exclamation point!

Lord, I know being glad is

a decision of my will, not an

expression of my emotions.

Please, help me be tough,

durable, see-through, and

sealed with your love. In Jesus

name we pray. Amen.

Being confined to home seemed outlandish. I should be out and about “doing something” … my car was calling and needed to be driven … but …

that was not to be.

With time to recall the life of my parents and grandparents, I realized that, while “times had changed,” they had endured confinement and shortages and,

surely, I could, too.

They had survived The Span-ish Flu of 1918, World War I, The Great Depression, followed by World War II with gas and food rationing, plus the Korean

conflict, and Vietnam … and here I was com-plaining about a few weeks of

staying home.

I lowered my head in shame,

recognizing my whimpering as

an insult to them.

Their deep unwavering faith in God had been their main stay. They supported their church and their community on all fronts. Like our ancestral Christian Stewarts, may we, today, up-hold the weak and support the strong through our faith in God, as we face the uncertainty of

this pandemic.

recent illness.

The many kindnesses I received during his illness and after losing my husband, Jack, have touched me deeply, and I’d like to thank you for your thoughtful calls, cards, and flowers, as well as the

donations to our church in his memory.

At the moment, each day seems as difficult as the last, but the love and support shown by our church community has been a great comfort to me and our children. Jack’s passing leaves a big

void in our hearts.

Dear Christ Church Family,

The past four months have been chaotic and faith-testing, but your prayers, love, and support are getting me through. Without prayers and the love and guidance of God, I truly do not know

where I would be.

I want to thank all who helped and participated in the Memorial Service for my son, Michael Jay. It was beautiful, and I know it touched many with the music and the message. I just cannot express enough my appreciation. I miss him terribly, but through all tragedy and grief, I know something good will come out of his

death.

My health has been an issue. I am thankful for the medical staff at PRMC that pulled me through my illness after Michael died. Your prayers also pulled me through. I am being very careful and staying safe at home during this coronavirus chaos. Your prayers during this time are greatly appreciated. I know that if I con-tacted this virus, my survival would be question-

able.

Thank you for prayers. and I want you to know that I pray for my church family every day and night. With my husband, Jay, and Michael Jay gone, my life has taken on a new meaning, and I have asked for God to guide to find which direc-

tion to go.

I have sold my home and am going to find a small place where I can start new. They are in my thoughts and memories every day; I can take my memories with me and be relieved from the physical and financial responsibilities of taking

care of a home way too big for just me.

Please keep me in your prayers to find the

place that God feels is right for me.

I love you and appreciate you, my church, and Pastors Koo. My church family is in my prayers

for safety and good health.

Cancer Kits are on hold for now By Darlene Detroy, Chairperson

Although we had planned to provide Cancer Kits to Women Supporting Women and the Radiology Oncology Unit of PRMC in May, we are delaying

this until further notice due to the Covid-19 issue.

Please know that we will continue this outreach mission as soon as it is possible. Thank you for all

your past support.

Salisbury Urban Ministries continues to reach out

to our community during this horrific pandemic.

The Lazarus Food Pantry is distributing nutritional

food bags to Wicomico County residents.

The Pantry is open Tuesdays and Thursdays,

10AM –12 PM. Photo ID required.

In the past 3 weeks, we have:

* Distributed 142 bags of food

* Purchased 1,318 pounds of food

* Assisted 107 individuals with emergency food (this number is above and beyond our current clien-

tele)

The Kid’s Café is supporting our “at-risk” elemen-

tary-school-age children.

The staff is making weekly phone calls to the chil-

dren to check on their well-being.

We are delivering to the children’s homes:

* School lunches

* Food bags for the family

* Homework packets to help ensure they maintain

their academic skills

* Additional educational workbooks

* Craft projects

Missions continues to reach out By Donna Blackwell, Missions Chairperson

Made with Love — With all this free time on our hands, we are making great progress on our project of cowls and scarves to go with the hats for the homeless. Over the spring and summer months, we keep creating to be ready for fall and the demand for warm clothing for our homeless neighbors. Between November and March, we donated in ex-cess of 100 handmade hats and scarves to the Mary-

land State Police and local shelters.

Facemasks — A shout out to those in our church family who are using their skills making facemasks. This is a blessing to everyone, especially our health-care workers – and I don’t want to forget the truckers, grocery store workers, and others on the front lines of

this “inviible” war.

Lazarus Food Pantry and Kid’s Café —- When you are browsing the internet don’t forget your donations to SUM. You can order almost anything (as I have discovered) and have it delivered directly to them at 326 Barclay Street, Salisbury 21801. Feeding the hungry doesn’t stop for the pandemic. They would love to have shelf-stable food for the pantry, and Kids Café is always happy to have indi-

vidual servings of pudding, fruit, and snacks.

Help support Salisbury Ministries COVID-19 outreach efforts

Recognize the privilege of ordinary life With the rapid spread of the coronavirus, our world is facing a difficult and unprece-

dented time. We now live in a totally different world. We ended spring semester classes at schools and colleges, suspended sports seasons, sent people home to work remotely, canceled all social or fellowship gatherings, including weddings and funerals, laid off countless people, and mandated millions of Americans to stay in their homes. We even

had to give up the option of facing this fear together as a church in person.

All of us are sick and tired of this restricting and isolated lifestyle, as well as the uncom-fortable disruptions that come with it. We easily blame governments, law enforcement, company CEOs, and medical professionals; we easily complain about our immediate family, because we have been stuck together in a small space for a long time, all the while sur-rounded by the continuous stressful news. To the world, it is understandable. However, God does not want us to remain in our ingratitude. Even if it is as painful and tearful as a global pandemic, there is still good. You may remember me sharing with you last Thanksgiving – gratitude does not depend on our situation; rather, it is our will and attitude toward life,

whether it is good or bad.

I have realized, during this stay-at-home period, that I rarely appreciate people who work hard to maintain the old norms of my daily, ordinary routine. I easily forgot to thank the grocery store cashiers and stockers, post office mailmen, Amazon/ UPS/FedEx delivery people, and sanitation workers collecting our trash. I underestimated the power of a handshake, a loving hug, or even a simple check-in email/call/text. I never fully appreciated our family’s tradition of eating out at a restaurant or our favorite fast food chain if we wanted to treat ourselves. I forgot to be grateful for stores, like Yankee Candle where I would purchase my favorite scent; the gym where I can sweat out the stress of the day, a small group during which we could share joys and concerns, our church sanctuary, where we can pray and worship together in person each weekend. I am even reminded to be thankful for toilet paper. When I think of these things, even

in passing, I spontaneously have to thank God.

We all have so many blessings in our lives. And yet, most of the time, we fail to notice them. We don’t recognize them properly, forget them, or simply take them for granted. In reality, these little things of ordinary life have a huge impact on our lives, as we are painfully learning. In the face of the temptation to focus on how much is lost or

inconvenient, let us tune our eyes and ears to notice all the blessings we easily neglect.

1 Thessalonians 5:18 tells us: “Give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.” I hope these words from our Lord will offer you comfort and ease your spirit, so you would be attuned to the blessings surrounding you, in spite of

today’s circumstances.
