Thank you for your very warm welcome these past few weeks as I gain my footing in my new role as Activities Director. Debbie will be imparting her knowledge and wis-dom until September 28th at which time I will continue in her place.

After three years of full-time schooling, I am happy to report that I recently graduated from Western with a bachelor’s degree in Human Services. I have a back-ground in leading activities for seniors as well as caregiving in long-term care, but took a long hiatus from formal work to be a stay-at-home mom and fos-ter parent. My family and I have resided in Lynden for the past 11 years, but I am originally from the Bellevue/Issaquah area. I am excited to be celebrat-ing my 20th wedding anniversary in October to my best friend and confidant, Jonathan. We have 5 lively children ranging in age from 8 to 17 years old. My faith is an important part of who I am, and I have a passion for social justice and serving others. Addi-tionally, I love to swim, bike and practice yoga. Since I grew up on a lake, being at the beach is my happy place. It is my honor to be able to serve you as Activities Director and I welcome your input and suggestions regarding activity planning.

Welcome Julie

Margaret moved to Lynden Manor about 2½ years ago. Her family remains close and they visit often Her son Dale always brings her lunch and eats with her every Wednesdays. It’s interesting to note that Margaret has lived within a three mile radius her entire life - first on the corner of Vinup and Badger, then Assink Road, then Grover St. and now Lynden Manor on Aaron Drive.

Resident Rights Corner

Chapter 70.129RC protects your rights at Lynden Manor. It is the in-tent of the legislature that individuals who live in boarding homes and fa-cilities receive appropriate services, be treated with courtesy and continue to enjoy their basic and legal rights, as well as having the opportunity to exercise reasonable control over life decisions. So in an effort to assist our residents in understanding their rights, we are going to feature a Resi-dent Right each month in our news-

letter going forward.

This month’s “Resident Right”:

Each resident and legal representative has the right to: Direct his/her own service plan and changes in the ser-vice plan and refuse any particular services (unless adjudicated incompe-tent, then legal representative partici-pates).

A little girl walked to and from school daily. Though the weather that morning was questionable and clouds were forming, she made her daily trek to school. As the afternoon progressed, the winds whipped up, along with lightning. The mother of the little girl felt concerned that her daughter would be frightened as she walked home from school. She also feared the electrical storm might harm her child. Full of concern, the mother got into her car and quickly drove along the route to her child’s school. As she did, she saw her little girl walking along. At each flash of lightning, the child would stop, look up, and smile. More lightning followed quickly and with each, the little girl would look at the streak of light and smile. When the mother drew up beside the child, she lowered the window and called, “What are you doing?” The child answered, “I’m trying to look pretty because God keeps taking my picture.”
