Meet Your 2017 Board of Directors
Congratulations and a big “Thank You” to the club
members who have volunteered to serve on the 2017
Board of Directors.
Of course, pictures like the one on the right bring
questions about whether the election was influenced by
outside forces. The CCC Facebook page is investigating
allegations of Russian hacking. So far, no recount is being
considered, but someone named Hillary is considering a
run for CCC board next year.
The BOD monthly meetings are held the first Thursday of
each month and are open to all club members. Here is a
little information about the people who will fill the
positions for the upcoming year.
Kevin Reit, President
I was born in Sioux Falls South Dakota. I have worked in the flooring
industry for over 30 years. Our family moved to Omaha, for employment
reasons 22 years ago. I have always been interested in cars and have had
several Pontiacs over the years, but always aspired to own a Corvette.
When we had our two children, thoughts of that were put on hold.
However, I saved a few bonus checks and any money I could stash away
without the wife getting wise and after several years, bought a used 1996
coupe. My wife Jayne, thought I was just crazy for wanting to get a sports
car when the kids were in college, but soon she enjoyed going for rides in
it. Jayne worked at an optical shop and soon a Cornhusker Corvette Club
member drove up in his Corvette to visit their store. Jayne asked him
about his car and told him I had just bought a Corvette. He invited us to
join Cornhusker Corvette Club. I was hesitant, but Jayne insisted that we at least go to one of the
meetings. We attended one and really enjoyed the people in the club and felt very welcome. Soon, we
were members – since 2009 - joining in on the activities. Our first outing was a river boat cruise. We did
not have anything that indicated we were members of the club. When we went to sit with the group, we
were told we needed to be members of the club to join in – soon they realized we were new members
and we were more than welcome to participate in the activities.
3
It has been a great experience and all the members have been more than gracious in helping us with
racing, parades, car shows, road trips and anything else we have had questions about. We have made so
many friends. The Cornhusker Corvette Club has so much to offer and you can pick what you want to try.
Jayne and I would like to thank everyone that has made this experience so great and look forward to
many more years of great fun.
Ray Kennedy, Vice President
I retired from the Marine Corp after 30 years. That prepared me for my
next career…….20 years at the Omaha Public Schools. I think I received
hazardous duty pay at both.
I am now self-employed at CNR (Can Not Remember) Construction, and
still going strong (some times).
This is my second year as Vice President, and I really enjoyed being part of
the NCCC Convention in Omaha this year. I am looking forward to another
great year with CCC and a chance to compete with the convention car.
Tom Horeis, Treasurer
I was born in Omaha and raised on a farm where Scutt High School is
located now. I began my banking career as a part time teller while in
college. I served in the Army in Vietnam in 68-69 with club members
Gary Sondyj, Bill Cashell, and Tim Malloy’s father Warren.
Upon returning from Vietnam, I collected past due loans, repoed cars
and trucks, and made loans. In the mid seventies, I became the CFO
and Sr. VP and Director of the Operations of the bank. I oversaw all
departments that were not loan departments of the bank.
Besides accounting, I also dabbled in architecture in college. I designed
our Millard facility, and the bank at 132nd and Dodge, now known as
US Bank, and many other facilities and projects for the bank.
In the mid eighties, I joined six other officers in purchasing the bank. We also purchased two additional
banks, one in Haywarden, Ia, and Haysprings, Ne.
In the early 90's we changed the banks name in Omaha from First West Side to First Bank. In 1995, First
Bank Minn. came to Omaha. We had their name, so they had to buy us to get the name. That is when I
retired.
I am divorced, have one son Jeff, married to Kayla, and they have four children. Jeff is a 20 year member
and Kayla is approaching 10 years. Many of you know him as owner of National Senior Insurance, selling
Medicare Supplements and many other products for seniors thru many companies giving you many
4
choices. He has fifteen plus or minus employees and covers many states including Texas. They also own
Yutan Kids Academy in Yutan. The one area I helped him was designing his offices and swinging a
hammer, and paint brush. I am very proud of him. I would also like to say Thank You to a special lady,
Clara Manly, the mother of Mike, who trained me well as a teller and helped make all this happen.
Carolyn Horst, Secretary
My husband, George, and I have belonged to the Cornhusker
Corvette Club since April, 2010. We have owned four Corvettes but
only have two presently – a C7 and a C4. I just retired from a large
engineering firm. My interests are reading, sewing, quilting,
exercising and traveling. I have lived in Falls City, Lincoln and Omaha,
Nebraska. I went to school at Northwest Missouri State University
and University of Nebraska Omaha.
Chris Tooker, Membership Director
Chris joined Merrill Lynch in 2014 after three years in Union Pacific’s
Corporate Audit department. He is a CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™
certificant on a multi-generational wealth management team. He
graduated summa cum laude from Creighton University with majors
in financial analysis and economics. During his time at Creighton, he
led two teams to the national level of competition as President of
Creighton's Mock Trial program, mentored 60 students as a resident
advisor and managed a four million dollar portion of Creighton's
endowment with 15 other students. He remains active in the
Creighton Alumni Association, is the President of Kiwanis Omaha, Inc.,
and is on the board of directors for the Arthritis Foundation,
Community Health Charities, and the Cornhusker Corvette Club.
Chris resides in Omaha but travels back to Colorado, where he grew up, at least once per month to visit
family and clients. Additionally, he competes in quarter-mile drag races at Bandimere Speedway in
Morrison, Colorado with his father and grandfather. As a Corvette enthusiast, he attends or competes in
several car shows, meet & greets, and auto cross races throughout the year in Omaha and Colorado.
When Chris isn't in the office or at an auto event, he's likely in the gym, at a charity dinner, or making
new friends at a social outing.
5
Jerry Koraleski, Governor
I joined CCC in 1996. I have held numerous offices since then. My first
office, at that time, was called Activities Director. I served as
Newsletter Editor for nine consecutive years. I was elected West
Region Competition Director for five years. I was honored to serve as
CCC President for the last three years. Somewhere in the midst of all
that I was Summer Festival Director. What I‘m most proud of is being
NCCC Convention Director 2016. A new challenge lies ahead as I will be
CCC Governor for 2017.
Bill Cashell, Editor
My wife Kathy and I really enjoy the social aspect of CCC, and attend as
many events as possible. I am also on the Social Committee, since
Kathy is a Co-Director. We have made so many good friends in the club
and love the fact that people in this club don’t want to grow up just
because we have to grow older. This is my 3rd (and last) year as Editor,
and I appreciate the support and contributions that everyone has given
me. We have a C4 and a C5 (and an unmentionable VW Karman Ghia
convertible) and love to get out and cruise with friends. Did I mention
that we also love to cruise on ships? Especially in the Caribbean during
the winter. I am mostly retired, but continue to teach a few classes at
Metro Community College.
Don Angeroth, Competition Director
I taught auto mechanics at Lewis Central High School for 34 years. For my
retirement in 2005, I had 37 corvettes put on a show at the high school.
That was one car for each of the 34 years and 3 more to represent all of
the extra time put in during the years.
We joined CCC in 2000 and have been having fun ever since. I still keep
busy with my rental properties where I manage and to all maintenance
work, and with the club activities. I have been on the Board 12 years. Look
out for 2017.
6
Kathy Cashell, Co-Social Director
I retired this year after 30 years (and many name changes) with
Northwestern Bell / US West / Qwest / Centurylink. I thought
retirement would be quiet and relaxing, but thanks to CCC, it has
been anything but that. This is my 3rd (and final) year as a Co-Social
Director, and it has been a wonderful way to get to know so many
club members and be involved in all of the activities. The first year, I
was thrown into this quite unexpectedly (thanks to George Horst)
and Jayne Sainz was my wonderful Co-Director, mentor and friend.
This year Bob Edmundson is partnering with me and I appreciate
both of them so much. The social part of the club has grown so much
and having a Co-Director and committee to help is really important.
The committee has so many great ideas, and we look forward to
another exciting year in 2017. Bill and I have been married for 42 years, and we have 3 sons. We are
strong supporters of the Nebraska Humane Society, Hearts United for Animals and Precious Memories
Child Care. Precious Memories is a non-profit that cares for the underprivileged and special needs
children. This will be our 15th year of providing them with a Christmas party.
Bob Edmundson, Co-Social Director
I am from Omaha, and I have her for 61 years. I spent 3 year in the Army
and served one year in Vietnam. Carolyn and I and our 3 children lived in
Scottsbluff, NE for 6 years before returning to Omaha in 1981. I retired in
2014 after working in the Optical business for 44 years and the last 30 as
a wholesale Optical Rep with Pech Optical out of Sioux City. Iowa. We
have 3 married sons and 5 grandchildren, and we are enjoying our
retirement. In the winter, you can find us at Padre Island, Texas, trying to
escape the winter weather.
Ray Zimmerman, Public Relations Director
I am originally from St. Louis, Mo. and moved to Colorado in 1978 where
I started my import business of Home Accessories and Gift. My wife
Nancy and I met in 1981 and we were married in 1984. We continued to
run our successful business in Colorado until 1990 at which time we sold
our business to investors in Omaha and moved here. I continued to work
with the new owners until 2000 at which time I retired.
We have a daughter and son in law in Arizona, two grand children and
their spouses and four great grand children who all live in Omaha. I
7
enjoy golf and all the club events and socials and especially the great people Nancy and I have met.
Gene Gau, Summer Festival Chairman
I have served in various positions in the Cornhusker Corvette Club,
including most recent, Director of the 2016 NCCC convention. It is now
my pleasure to serve as Summer Festival director. Get ready to have your
socks knocked off. Rats, we already used that. If everything works out, it
will be a weekend to remember. If you're good at planning events, be
prepared to consider helping out. One more thing….lets each consider
this goal, to bring one new member into the club this year, so that more
people can enjoy SUMMER FESTIVAL.
Gene
Perry Dawes, Member at Large
I grew up in O’Neill, NE and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan (Lincoln).
I was a Band Director 15 years in Stanton, NE, Wahoo Neumann and
Kearney H.S. I have been a licensed Real Estate Broker since 1974 (42
years - still active) and past President of Buffalo Co. Realtors, and Omaha
Area Board of Realtors.
My wife Linda and I have been married for 48 years. We purchased our
first Corvette in 2010 (1995 Dark Purple Metallic Coupe) and joined CCC
in Jan. 2011. Currently, we own a 2001 Torch Red Corvette Coupe, and
we have developed many wonderful friends through membership in CCC.
I was a Member at Large on CCC Board of Directors 2015, 2016, and re-
elected for 2017. I have been chairman for several CCC Shows and
events, and was instrumental in designing, building, and racing valve cover track and cars for 27 CCC
members. I enjoy driving Corvette in Low Speed and High Speed events.
8
Ron Hernandez, Member at Large
Ron retired from the Army after a career that included several combat
assignments. He formed a non-profit organization called Moving
Veterans Forward, and now dedicates a large part of his time helping
homeless Veterans in Iowa and Nebraska to get placed in homes. The
Veteran’s Administration out of Omaha notifies him of pending
placements and Ron begins to move them in and find the necessities
that they need. A large part of their endeavors is collecting furniture,
clothing and other household items. The main goal is to give these
veterans the boost they need to turn themselves around to become self-
sufficient.
Ron was first introduced to CCC when Moving Veterans Forward was
selected as a recipient of proceeds of a CCC Car Show. He was so impressed with the members of CCC
that he and his wife Kim joined the club. They have a C4 and a C5 convertible, and enjoy the social
activities as well as the competition events.
Spotlight: Moving Veterans Forward
The Toys for Tots event included the annual Small Christmas Tree contest. This year, the trees went to
veterans that Ron Hernandez has helped move into their new homes. Here is what Ron posted on
Facebook:
We will be moving 4 more Veterans on Tues, and all of the trees will be handed out as well. I just
wanted to tell everyone who made the trees for the Veterans Thank You and they love them.
They also wanted me to tell you God Bless and Thank You for thinking of them.
2 more Veterans got their Xmas Trees today and new homes.

The Ongoing Saga of Ralph
By George Horst
Older members of the club know about Ralph, who is a traveling trophy given out at the annual
awards banquet. So, this is really for the newer
members. Ralph is awarded to the person who
ends up in 21st place in competition points. This
past January, Carolyn Horst was the lucky
winner. I missed Ralph by only one point.
Ralph takes on a personality of his own
wherever he stays during the year. This year he
was very lucky and resided at the Horst
residence. Ralph took up residence in our great
room and partook in many of our activities. He
really liked Carolyn and got along great with
her. Ralph had a little trouble warming up to
me, but after I stuck up for him during the
convention we became best buddies. Let me
say, I would never say this about myself, so this
is in his own words. Ralph said I was the nicest, smartest, caring, loving person he had ever
met. Ralph learned how to cook pork hocks, pork shanks, loves sardine sandwiches and
acquired a taste for liver pudding. North Carolina is on his bucket list.
Earlier this year I had tried to get Ralph signed up for auto-crossing at the convention, but Gene
Gau said that would never happen because he did not have a NCCC card and was too short.
What a grouch! At the convention, Ralph dressed up as an elf and everyone thought it was
Chris Tooker. Amazing what a little make-up will do.
Ralph got his CCL in June and protected our home during several trips this past summer while
we were gone.
He spends a lot of his time on Facebook, so he is current with all that is happening in the club.
We really will miss Ralph this next year, but Carolyn’s request is that whoever wins Ralph at the
January awards banquet, really take care of him and keep him involved.

Toys for Tots
Christmas is for kids. But, for some families, there is not always enough extra money to buy gifts for
their children. The US Marines has been supporting the Toys for Tots drive for many years to help each
child have a Merry Christmas. Our resident Marine (and still a big kid himself) Ray Kennedy coordinated
the event and it was a fabulous success. Thank to everyone who brought toys and made the evening
great. Christmas Tree contest winners wer Erv Gunderson, Jayne Reit and Suzanne Blackburn.

Candy Wrapping & Holiday Lights Tour
This weekend was the annual Candy Wrapping event, followed by dinner and a holiday lights tour. You
may be thinking, why don’t we just buy candy that is already wrapped? Aha, this is special sugar-free
candy that goes to kidney patients that are often on dialysis. In the past, we donated to The Nebraska
Kidney Foundation. NCCC no longer supports the Kidney Foundation, but thanks to Nancy Bronner, the
tradition of helping these patients at holiday time lives on.
The tour of lights was on a large tour bus and Ollie the Trolley. I can say from personal experience that
Ollie’s heater was barely up to the task of the cold winter night, but the lights were spectacular!

It was election night. The electricity of
excitement was in the air for who might be
elected to be on the 2017 Board of Directors.
Would the vote be so close that the ballots
would have to be recounted? And recounted?
Will the six members who voted by the
absentee voting procedure make a difference in
the vote? (We’ll never know}.
It had been a well fought campaign with $0 put
forth. What will we watch on TV now that the
CCC campaign is over? Must we resort to videos
on FACEBOOK of the low-speed autocross
races? or to the photos on the “memory”
pages? Will our club go wild and out of control
whereby Bob Edmundson, our Sergeant at
Arms, will be called upon to bring order to the
meeting?
A reminder to shut off cell phones was
announced by Bob Edmundson and the 5
minute warning to begin the meeting was given.
President Koraleski led the members in the
Pledge of Allegiance and in a moment of silence
for our friends and families in need of prayers.
Jerry also announced that the cutoff time for
voting would be at 7:45p.m. tonight.
John and Brenda Salmans, owners of
“SERVICEONE”, generously provided a $50 gas
card for the 50/50 drawing. SERVICEONE is a
CCC Contributor and John and Brenda are CCC
members. Thank you, John and Brenda.
Kathy Gau read off the birthday names with the
drawing to be later in the meeting. Corvette
calendars are for sale and the order for the CCC
Member Club stickers for the cars have been
received. They are $6, come in a variety of
colors, can be purchased through George and
will be the “latest” accessory you’ll see on club
member’s cars when they come out of storage
in the spring.
David Ferguson made a motion to approve last
month’s minutes as published in the newsletter
and Cork Adams seconded it.
Bob Edmundson has also been on the very
active social
committee this year
therefore, in the
absence of Kathy
Cashell, Bob did an
overview of the social
activities that are
coming up.
CCC has the opportunity to be generous with
children’s gifts at the Toys for Tots dinner on
December 3 at Cascio’s Steak House. Cascio’s is
a CCC Contributor. A Christmas Tree contest will
be held as well and the Trees will go to Nursing
Homes and or to vets who are living at Victory
Village Apartments. Jerry Koraleski is chairing
this activity this year and will make the decision
as to where the trees will go. Put on your
dancing shoes for we will dance!
Of course, Bob reminded us that our Awards
Banquet will be January 14 at Cascio’s. Ray
Kennedy announced that there will be 31
“Hardcore” awards handed out this year The
“Hardcore” awards celebrate those members
who have been with CCC for 10, 20, 30, 40, 50
years. What a fantastic testament it is to CCC
19
for the outstanding club it has been over the
years!
Jerry is also working on having a representative
from St. Jude’s, our charity choice, at our
meeting. So there is always something for
everyone.
Marie Manz reported that there are currently
420 members at this
time, but the numbers
will go to approximately
370 when all the dues
are into the National
level of our
organization.
Tom Horeis gave a positive financial report and
he’s been working hard
with lining up menus
and budget costs with
the party venues. Tom
has a huge job, so when
you see him, thank Tom
for all the time it take to
develop the budget, pay the expenses, balance
the check books and deal with the IRS.
Don Angeroth is organizing a low-speed
“Icekona” for later in the winter. You’ll be able
to see the details on the calendar if the website
doesn’t freeze up. He’s also preparing (No
kidding) for the spring driving school in May to
learn how to low-
speed autocross.
President Koraleski
thanked him for
holding these
classes annually.
Note from
Secretary: We
wouldn’t have such
a strong program had it not been for the CCC
Members who came before us teaching us how
to auto cross and to them we say “Thanks”.
Jerry reported on the recent Governor’s
meeting which was held in St. Louis that four of
our members will be holding offices in the West
Region and national. They are:
Regional Competition Director (RCD) Gary
Brisbois
Treasurer Jon Manz
Membership Director Marie Manz
NCCC National Parliamentarian Kathy Brisbois
Gene Gau, 2016
Convention Chairman,
reported that National
Corvette Members are
still complementing
CCC on the great 2016
Convention. Gene also
reported that plans are
in the works for the
2017 Convention that will be held in Bowling
Green and that registration will be opening up
on January 1 on-line.
The 2018 Convention will be held in New
Orleans with a World Class Track available and
they know already that the hotel rooms will be
$87 a night.
Cincinnati, OH, Colorado Springs, CO and
Effingham, IL are all bidding for the 2019
Convention.
JB Benedict reported that there was a great
turnout for the Vet’s
parade. There were 31
Corvettes with 52
people from our club
in attendance. JB
thanked everyone who
has been bringing
newspapers for the animal shelter he supports
and he will not need to collect them again until
the February or March meetings.
Linda Hughbanks name was drawn for the
birthday winner and although she didn’t wear
the hat, she was a good sport and held the hat
above her head for a picture.
20
Neither Perry Dawes nor Chris Tooker,
Members at Large, had a report as there hadn’t
been any issues brought to their attention.
The 50/50 drawing was for $93 and won by
Craig Pandil.
Ray Zimmerman, standing in for Pat Swift, came
to the front wth
good news that we
have a new
Contributor,
Executive Shippers.
Leach Campers
Sales is no longer
interested in being
a contributor, however.
Craig Olsen was the winner of the SERVICEONE
gas card and Joan Harshbarger drew tickets for
the gift table until the gifts were all gone.
What was taking so long in the election
tabulation booth? President Koraleski talked
about the new Board of Directors being invited
to sit in with the 2016 Board of Directors
meeting in December at his home, and still no
results. To kill more time, President Koraleski
asked who would be bringing decorated
Christmas Trees to the Toys for Tots Banquet,
and still no announcement of election results.
Swervin’ Ervin got up and challenged the club to
beat his tree he has decorated for the Banquet,
and still no results. Jerry was suddenly showing
a pair of shoes he had to give away and still no
results!!!
Finally, the tabulation team made up of George
Horst, Nick Gau, Jim Blackburn, and Mike Manly
appeared from the tabulation booth. They
announced the 2017 Board of Directors as:
Kevin Reit, President
Ray Kennedy, Vice President
Tom Horeis,Treasurer
Carolyn Horst, Secretary
Chris Tooker, Membership Director
Jerry Koraleski, Governor
Bill Cashell, Editor
Don Angeroth, Competition Director
Kathy Cashell and Bob Edmundson, Social
Directors
Ray Zimmerman, Public Relations Director
Perry Dawes, Member at Large
Ron Hernandez, Member at Large
Gene Gau, Summer Festival Chairman
Ervin Gunderson made the motion to adjourn
and Cork Adams seconded the motion.
Election night was over and all the members left
the Banquet Hall in an orderly fashion!
Respectfully submitted,
Jannette Gunderson,
Secretary
