Santa’s Posse kicking off
holiday giving
Santa’s Posse needs your help!
This is the 19th
year that Santa’s Posse
has provided food baskets and gifts for
families in need within our
community. This event is a
partnership with the Clark County
Sheriff’s Department, Rotary clubs of
Clark County, Fire District 6 and
Kindercare Learning Centers. Each
year we receive
hundreds of
requests for
assistance. What
started with delivery
of food, gifts and
personal care items
to 43 families has
now expanded to
serve over 900
families. They
provide Christmas
for over 2,500
children in our
community. They
cannot do this
without the help of
many volunteers.
In addition, we will be accepting
donations of new, unwrapped toys for
children of all ages, nonperishable
food, toiletry items, and cash
donations. These donations can be
dropped off at the Clark County
Sheriff’s Office Headquarters, Central
or West Precincts, any Fire District 6
station or Kindercare Learning Center
locations throughout Clark County.

donations of food, supplies and money,
which in turn are given to the Clark

other than for the purchase of food.
Walk & Knock is 100% privately
funded.
Walk & Knock distributes grocery

door-to-door to collect the bags and
deliver the food to one of ten drop-off
locations.

Columbia River Mental
Health Services
Serving the citizens of Clark County
since 1942, this agency is the largest
locally operated non-profit in Clark
County.
Volunteers help by providing a wide
range of crucial services. Here are a
few of the ways individuals and groups
can help. These opportunities are
either on-going or on an as needed
basis.
Become a mentor for a child who
needs a caring, responsible adult
friend. Help the child and family
program sort, organize, and
inventory children’s therapy rooms.
Serve as a clerk and data entry
person in the billing department.
Assist with Clerical support and
reminder calls
Do you enjoy entertaining? Elahan
Place would like for you to
volunteer as an entertainer, sing,
play an instrument, and be a
comedian.
Work with staff at fundraising and
community education events as a
special events volunteer.
Do you like to clean up sites or plant
a garden? Help our grounds and
maintenance department. “Clean up
days” for groups of volunteers
consist of litter picks, and warehouse
organizing. Student volunteers from
middle school and high school can
also participate in this opportunity. It
often fulfills community service
project requirements and project
reports.
Do you enjoy planning for and
helping set up special events? Our
development department often needs
volunteers for intense but brief
periods.
Whether you are interested in
volunteering on a regular basis or for a
special need we will match your
unique skills, interests, and available
time with the volunteer position that
best suits you.
Information on volunteering:
Volunteers must be at least 18 years
or older (unless otherwise stated,
such as student help on clean up
days).
Commitment length of time varies
by opportunities.
Volunteer application and
background check is required,
except for short term service
assignments, where a signed
confidentiality form is used instead.

Winter Safety Tips Keep leaves out of streets - prevent
street flooding
Street flooding often is caused by
clogged storm drains, plugged culverts
or obstructed roadside ditches.
Clark County residents should not
blow, rake or sweep leaves and other
debris onto streets, where they can
block storm drains, cause flooding and
create driving hazards.
Intentionally blowing, raking or
sweeping leaves onto county roads is
littering and violates county code. You
can make a difference in preventing
rain pooling on streets this autumn and
winter:
Options for disposing of leaves
available:
Use the County’s free leaf
disposal coupon program, Oct. 1-
Dec. 20.
Visit https://www.clark.wa.gov/public-
works/leaf-disposal
Use leaves as garden mulch or
subscribe to optional yard debris
service.
Visit www.wcnorthwest.com or call
360-892-5370
How to avoid frozen water pipes
Clark Public Utilities reminds water
customers to guard against freezing or
bursting plumbing and pipes before
temperatures plummet.
Disconnect garden hoses. Insulate
outside faucets and water pipes in
crawl spaces, basements and garages.
Allow a trickle of water to drip from
an indoor faucet during severely
freezing nights. Remember that owners
are responsible for plumbing on their
private property. Never try to thaw a
frozen pipe with an open flame.
Snow removal on Clark County
Roads and residential streets
Clark County is responsible for
maintaining 2,665 lane miles, roughly
the driving distance between
Vancouver and Atlanta, and does not
have the resources to clear every street.
We focus on the busiest roads to keep
people, goods and services moving.
Property owners are responsible for
maintaining access to driveways and
parking lots.
Winter driving tips
Slow down and be cautious
Be seen! Use your headlights
Do not use cruise control
Leave extra room between you
and the car in front of you
Slow down when approaching
ramps, bridges or shady spots
where black ice tends to
accumulate
Home fire Prevention tips
Never leave a cooking pot
unattended on the stove
Cover stovetop fires with a lid,
don’t pour water on it
Unplug small appliances when not
in use
Do not store items in an oven or
on the stovetop
Do not put out your cigarettes in a
potted plant – use a metal
container filled with water or sand
Clean clothes dryer lint traps often
Don’t run the clothes dryer while
you’re not at home
Keep oily rags in a closed metal
container
Store gasoline/diesel fuel in liquid
tight containers designed
specifically for that purpose
Empty fireplace ashes into a metal
container and store outside, away
from the house
Don’t leave a fireplace or stove
fire burning while you are not at
home
Do not put blankets, furniture or
other items within three feet of a
heater
Keep matches and lighters in a
locked cabinet, away from
children
Only use candles when home and
don’t walk out of a room in which
they are burning

Support Local Businesses in
Hazel Dell Small and locally owned businesses
are the mainstay of our community's
economy. The owners of these
businesses live and work in our
community and have a vested interest
in our community’s quality of life.
Local businesses provide jobs, are a
key source of tax revenue to support
public services, support our schools,
our parks, and are instrumental to the
quality of life in our community. They
have a vested interest and provide
important goods and services to all of
us living here in Hazel Dell.
From time-to-time we feature Hazel
Dell businesses in our neighborhood
newsletter. We want you to know who
your local businesses are and what
they have to offer. We urge you to do
business with them, support them and

Neighborhood Association
Mission:
The residents of the Hazel Dell
area established the NE Hazel
Dell Neighborhood Association
(NEHDNA) in order to unite the
common interests and promote
the welfare of the area. The
association is involved with a
variety of matters, which affect
the livability of the
neighborhood and community in
general.
All residents within the
neighborhood association
boundaries or neighboring areas
not within an existing
neighborhood association are
welcome to attend and
participate in the association.
If you have any questions or
would like more information,
please contact one of the officers
or board members listed on this
page. The NEHDNA does not
subscribe to any religious
affiliation or political party. Our
desire is to work together for the
common good of the
neighborhood in which we all
live. You don’t have to live in
the area to be a member or to
come to the meetings! All are
welcome.
Neighborhood Association newsletters are copies free of charge by the Clark County Public Information and Outreach Office. The information and views
expressed are solely those of the Neighborhood Association and not Clark County Government or the Public Information and Outreach Office.
