World trends & developments14:00 Main rare earth element (REE) sources and their importance in terms of current and future markets –

technical analysis•Most of light REEs (LREEs) are derived from carbonatite-related deposits such as Bayan Obo (Inner Mongolia) and Mountain Pass (USA)•Most of heavy REEs (HREEs) are derived from ion-adsorption clay deposits (weathered crusts) such as the Xinxiu granite (South China) •Market conditions permitting, a portion of the future LREE and why demand could be possibly satisfied by REE co-production fromphosphate, uranium, and weathering-enriched carbonatite deposits

• In the future, a portion of HREE demand could be satisfied from peralkaline rock related deposits (eg. Kipawa, Nechallacho etc) withhigh HREE content relative to ion adsorption clay deposits but demanding metallurgy

•Western societies require reliable sources of REEs for national security, high-technology industries, and reduced greenhouse gasemissions. Unless the laws of supply and demand prevail, large REE users may be forced to back projects outside of China to protectthem against shortages in specific REEs and artificial price fluctuations
