Term 3 Week 10 NAROOMA PUBLIC SCHOOL 24 September, 2019
Staffing News! Mrs Jo Millar will be taking leave in Term 4. Mrs Alana Owens-Stewart will be going into a full time capacity onto the Pelicans class. Mrs Owens-Stewart is looking forward to this opportunity. I would like to thank Mrs Millar for all of her work on the Pelican’s class this year.
Mrs Cathy Manning will be leaving us at the end of the term. Mrs Manning has been working in a support/QTSS capacity in the school and is taking some time off in Term 4. I would like to publically acknowledge the hard work and contributions Mrs Manning has made to the school this year.
Mrs Ashleigh Ritchie is returning to our school on a part-time basis after being on maternity leave. Mrs Ritchie will be completing a variety of roles within the school in Term 4. Welcome back Mrs Ritchie! Parent / Teacher Interviews. I would like to thank all of the parents and friends of the school who supported the Parent / Teacher Interviews process. All teachers reported good numbers that attended.
If you missed the opportunity to speak with your child’s class teacher, please give the school a call to arrange a mutually agreeable time to re-schedule this meeting. This time slot may have to be early in Term 4. Playground Equipment update I took a call today from ‘Moduplay’ the company installing our new playground equipment. I am pleased to report that they are intending to start work on Friday this week.
Many friends of the school will see construction of the equipment taking place over the school holidays on the grass area next to the basketball court.
We are looking forward to the finished product, which will be handed over approximately in the first two or three weeks of Term 4. Year 5 Berry Sport & Rec Camp Just a quick note informing the community that Year 5 had a wonderful learning opportunity on their excursion to Berry.
All teachers, parents and children reported that they had a great time! Even if there were some tired faces returning on the bus.
Final School Week
This is the final school week for the term. We have had a busy term and I know there will be many people in our school community looking forward to a two-week rest break!
Our first day back to school in Term 4 is Monday October 14.
Put this date on your calendar!
With our most recent break in, I ask the community members around the school to keep an eagle eye on our place. If you see
anything suspicious, please give School Security a call on 1300 880 021 or Narooma Police on 4476 2044.

Parliament and Civics Education Rebate
(PACER)
Students from our school will soon be undertaking an education tour of the national capital. Students will be given the opportunity to participate in a variety of educational programs with a focus on Australia’s history, culture, heritage and democracy.
The Australian Government recognises the importance of all young Australians being able to visit the national capital as part of their Civics and Citizenship education. To assist families in meeting the cost of the excursion the Australian Government is contributing funding to students under the Parliament and Civics Education Rebate program towards those costs. The rebate is paid directly to the school upon completion of the excursion.

Far South Coast Student Gardeners Convergence
On Friday, 20th September Naomi Steffan, Claire Raabe and Lily Mahony travelled down to Bega to participate in the far South Coast School Gardens Convergence. We took part in three workshops that were really fun and engaging.
The first activity we worked on was building a chicken coop out of gravel, mud, straw and cement. We placed balls of mud on top of a concrete and bamboo frame. We had a great time piling mud on the concrete blocks and when we had finished we were all covered in mud.
The second activity we did was the Regional Seed Saving Program. We had to scrape seeds off a sunflower and put them in bags. After that we matched seeds up to the correct plants, and to finish off the activity we made paper pulp bowls which were then left to dry.
In the third activity we made a wicking-bed garden. We poured in gravel on the bottom, and then sand, and finally soil. To finish the garden off we planted some basil and coriander then we covered the plants with straw.
The day was really fun and we hope to bring some of the ideas we learnt there back to Narooma Public School.

Scholastic Book Club The Book Club is now only available online to students at Narooma Public School. Brochures will still be distributed to the students, but orders will need to be placed online.
It is easy to order. The Book Club LOOP platform for parents allows you to pay by credit card. Your child’s order is submitted directly to school safe and sound and the books will be delivered to class.
You can place your child’s order at scholastic.com.au/LOOP or using the LOOP app, which can be downloaded from the App Store or Google Play.
We want your lids
A “Lids 4 kids” collection point is now in our front foyer.
Lids that are accepted are plastic bottle top lids from soft drink and milk/juice cartons/bottles. They are generally up the size of a credit card (or smaller) and too small to be recycled as a stand-alone hard plastic item in our kerbside collection.
To drop off…They need to be clean and have the white waxy liner (if it has one) flicked out of it (this can be done easily with a pen or fingernail). Once the lids get to Envision, they are colour sorted and made into pellets that are fed into a 3D printer that produces prosthetic limbs for children.
