How to Participate

• A team of students that is willing to invest time and effort

- Usually, teams for the Moot consists of 4-8 students

• Technical preconditions such as computers and the relevant software, access to the internet and (built-in) cameras and microphones

- Legal texts and materials are largely available on the internet

- The 28th Vis Moot 2021 will be conducted online

• Support of the university and or educational staff

- At best, a professor or lecturer of your university is able to support your team

- In addition, the Hannover PreMoot Week is intended to fill this gap

• Additional coaching can be provided by alumni and coa-ches of other universities in virtual meetings

Preliminary ScheduleAbout the Vis Moot

The Willem C Vis International Arbitration Moot (the “Moot”) is an annual competition of teams representing law schools throughout the world. The Moot is intended to stimulate the study of international commercial law, especially the legal texts prepared by the United Na-tions Commission on International Trade Law and the use of arbitration to resolve international commercial disputes.

Hence, the Moot is often referred to as “the Olympics of International Trade Law”. The Problem of the Moot in-volves a controversy arising out of an international sale of goods subject to the UN Convention on Contracts for the International Sale of Goods (CISG). The controversy is before an arbitral tribunal.

By the time the Moot began, the claimant had filed its request for arbitration, the respondent had filed its sta-tement of defense and the arbitral tribunal had been appointed. The Moot involves writing memoranda and preparing oral arguments in support of the positions of the claimant and respondent.
