Dear Friends and Supporters,

In 2014, despite challenging times, HandsOn Jacksonville proudly continued our work of inspiring, equipping, and mobilizing volunteers---turning good intentions into real work to make the world a better place. We thank our volunteers, our donors, our friends, our agency partners, and, most notably, our national partners at Points of Light for their steadfast support.

We are privileged to be a part of a community that is made up of people whose generosity of spirit differentiates us from other beauti-ful places in Florida. Take a look at some comparison data from the

Volunteering and Civic Life in America report by the Corporation for National and Community Service: 62.6 million, or 25.4% of Americans volunteered nearly 7.7 billion hours last year in a formal organization with an estimated value of $175 billion. Let’s put Jacksonville in context by comparing ourselves with the nation, with Florida, and with our three sister cities in Florida. In Jacksonville our volunteer rate is 29.3% and that puts us in 16th place among the 51 largest cities in the US. Remember, America’s overall volunteer rate was 25.4% so we are looking good in that comparison. Now let’s look at Florida where 21.1% of Floridians volun-teer. And finally, let’s take a look at the three other large cities in Florida: Tampa, where 23.9% of residents volunteer, ranking them 38th; Orlando, where 19.4% volunteer, ranking them 46th; and Miami, where 14.3% volunteer, ranking them 51st.

We are a volunteering community. People get involved. As the on-ramp to the superhighway of volunteer-ing, HandsOn Jacksonville has not just inspired people, we have given them a mechanism to turn their good intentions into action. We are proud of the lives we have changed and the unmeasurable ripples of good that have resulted from our efforts.

It has been my privilege to lead and manage this amazing organization since 1995 after retiring from my first career as a naval officer. I couldn’t be more proud of what we have done, how we have evolved, and the honors we have received. But it’s time for the next generation to take the helm. During 2015 we will care-fully and purposefully transition to new leadership under LeAnn Daddario, currently our Senior Vice Presi-dent and Chief Operating Officer. I enthusiastically pledge my continued support to her and to an organiza-tion and mission that I have passionately loved. And I thank each of you for the role you have played in this amazing journey!

In service,

Our MissionWe inspire, equip and mobilize volunteers to use their time, talent, money and voice

changing the world one good deed at a time.

Our PromiseWe connect volunteers with their passion and

we develop volunteer leaders and leaders of volunteers.
