How do they find their food in the dark? What advantages do they have over their diurnal (active during the day) cousins? Learn about some creatures that are native to our region that like to do their hunting, foraging and lots of other activities at night. Nov. 16: Amazing Amphibians Come learn about these “slick” creatures. What makes them slimey? See a bullfrog and learn why they’re bad news for local frog species. Visit with a tadpole and make your own frog mask complete with working tongue! Dec. 21: Snow Animals Ever wonder how polar bears, artic foxes and snowy owls survive in such cold environments? While it may not snow in Riverside, we’ll explore how these animals have adapted to the harsh conditions of the wintery north. Jan. 18: Leapin’ Lizards! Meet the lizards in the Nature Lab. Where are they from? What do they eat? How are they an important part of our ecosystem? Make a reptile counting book and learn about the way scientists group animals together. Feb. 15: Weather Watchers Make a weather chart so you can see patterns in our local weather. Learn how meteorologists study weather from satellite pictures and how they can predict what the weather will be like.
