Race 1

#1 Kilkenny Prospect

#8 A Gershwin Tune

#2 Mazinaw Legend

#7 Lucky Street

#1 KILKENNY PROSPECT kicked off his season with a

narrow second behind a foe who had already made a

start at the meet. He drops in value and adds blinkers for

the first time since 2018. #8 A GERSHWIN TUNE kicked

off his season 15 days ago, closing to be second behind

a winner dropping from $25,000 in for $10,000. He may

not get a great pace set up here but he’s lightly raced and

may be on the improve. #2 MAZINAW LEGEND showed

some life when finishing second at this level on June 19.

He comes into this race a bit more fresh than most of the

competition. #7 LUCKY STREET has raced well in both

of his starts this season against similar competition. He

figures to be near the lead in a race without an

abundance of speed.

Race 2

#4 Blonde Attitude

#7 Rose Ring

#2 J M R Bold Vision

#3 Black Sage

#4 BLONDE ATTITUDE couldn’t close into a stout

headwind on June 11 then got stopped by a tiring foe late

on the turn on July 9. If the pace melts down and she can

get a clean run she could rebound. #7 ROSE RING was

an even fifth when kicking off her season on the inner

turf. She should appreciate the return to the Tapeta and

is another stalker/closer who could take advantage of a

hot early pace. #2 J M R BOLD VISION was widest of all

and came up empty when racing on the inner turf on July

3. She has shown no affinity for the grass and should be

better getting back to the main track. #3 BLACK SAGE

was third in the same inner turf race that Rose Ring and J

M R Bold Vision exit. She has ran very well in both of her

starts this season and warrants consideration once again.

Race 3

#6 Embrace My Uncle - Best Bet

#2 Kid Forester

#3 Striking Moon

#4 Bet Alpha

#6 EMBRACE MY UNCLE dropped in for this price,

stalked the pace and won when favoured on June 26. He

should have more than enough pace to follow here. #2

KID FORESTER looked like a winner but was run down

late by a Tampa-invader on June 7.He figures to get a

similar stalking trip here. #3 STRIKING MOON was in too

tough in the Woodstock then had a wide journey and was

empty when trying turf for $40,000 on July 4. He takes

another step down the class ladder and may be

somewhat ignored on the tote board. #4 BET ALPHA

showed nothing when competing for $40,000 on June 14.

He ran a couple of big efforts at huge odds late last year;

if the pace melts down here he could get a share at a big

price.

Race 4

#4 Captain Vinnie

#2 Cause for Alarm

#1 Cat’s Whisper

#3 A Viking Morning

#4 CAPTAIN VINNIE sat midpack and was able to get up

late to break his maiden when entered for $14,000 on

June 28. He drops in for $7,500 for his first start against

winners. #2 CAUSE FOR ALARM dueled when routing at

this level last week and was second best behind a foe

who had a perfect, inside-stalking trip. He has since been

privately purchased and cuts back to a sprint; his win

came in a one-turn route. #1 CAT’S WHISPER was a

tiring third when racing on the front end in his season

opener, then ran a very good second when reverting to

his normal closing style on July 5. He typically goes off

form after his first start of the season but may simply be

better this year; I wouldn’t accept too short a price. #3 A

VIKING MORNING broke slowly and made a mild rally for

a midpack finish on July 5. He should be capable of

better with a start under his belt.

Race 5

#2 Letthebighossroll

#8 Am Prepared

#3 Flash of Silver

#7 Cerrado

#2 LETTHEBIGHOSSROLL had a disappointing 2019

campaign. He kicked off his 2020 season with an even

run in a short Tapeta sprint. He is a better turf horse and

he should be capable of better than his current form

shows; worth a look in a questionable group. #8 AM

PREPARED made a wide rally to finish in midpack when

kicking off his season on June 19. He will have to find a

way to work out a trip from the widest post but fits well

with this group. #3 FLASH OF SILVER exits a wire to

wire win on the main track and looks like the most

obvious speed threat in this race. He didn’t get around

the far turn well in that most recent effort which makes

the tighter turns on this course a bit of a question. #7

CERRADO had a pair of turf wins last fall. His speed

figures are competitive with this field; it’s just a matter of

how ready he is off of the layoff.

Race 6

#6 Dancers Ghost

#4 Guestimation

#7 Creative Force

#10 Range of Motion

#6 DANCERS GHOST had a very nice trip and did not

threaten but did not run as the line suggests on July 11.

He drops back into the OS/$40,000 level and figures to

be competitive. #4 GUESTIMATION had his two best

career efforts at the end of 2019 when routing on the

Tapeta. He shouldn’t be too far from the early lead; we’ll

see if he’s ready to route off of the layoff. #7 CREATIVE

FORCE showed no speed, angled out turning for home

and had some late run, although did not gallop out great

when sprinting on turf on June 28.He makes his second

start off of the bench here, routes for the first time and

adds blinkers. #10 RANGE OF MOTION was

disappointing when competing for this price on turf three

weeks ago. He’s still lightly raced; perhaps the new

surface will reverse his fortunes.

Race 7

#1 Lookout Louie

#6 Shangassah

#11 Mr. Todd

#8 Virgil Caine

#1 LOOKOUT LOUIE was a respectable second behind a

lone speed winner on debut, then had trouble on the

backstretch second time out, showing some finishing

interest. He drops in value and tries a route for the first

time. #6 SHANGASSAH had a very wide trip on the inner

turf when returning from Gulfstream on July 5. He should

be able to work out a trip from this post as opposed to the

wide draw he had last time; the synthetic is the biggest

question. #11 MR. TODD showed some speed, stalked

from the inside and finished a bit evenly when debuting in

the same race Lookout Louie exits. He could improve but

will have to work out a trip from the widest post. #8

VIRGIL CAINE has not run great but has not run terribly

in his two attempts to date. He adds blinkers for the first

time as he continues to drop in value.

Race 8

#8 Final Eclipse

#5 Dr. Green

#2 Veloce

#1 L’Etat (GER)

#10 Personal Journey

#8 FINAL ECLIPSE showed speed on debut but was

clearly green, ducking out and losing ground seemingly

as the rider flagged the stick at him, then dropping out of

contention. The blinkers are removed; there’s some

potential there. #5 DR. GREEN raced wide and tried to

close against a speed bias when debuting in the same

race as Final Eclipse, finishing fourth. He returned to win

impressively in a route on the inner turf but was

disqualified; if he’s able to duplicate that run he’ll be

tough to beat here. #2 VELOCE also rallied against a

speed bias when finishing third in the same June 19 race

that my top two selections competed in. He ran very well

in a pair of routes against easier company last year. #1

L’ETAT (GER) was very unlucky to hook Shirl’s Speight

when debuting on turf 20 days ago. He gets in much

easier here and has the right to improve with experience.

#10 PERSONAL JOURNEY raced wide on the inner turf

when kicking off his season on June 21. He rises in

value; likely to be a pace factor.
