How GPS WorksYour Fishing System uses GPS and sonar to determine your position, display it on a grid, andprovide detailed underwater information. The Global Positioning System (GPS) is a satellitenavigation system designed and maintained by the U.S. Department of Defense. GPS wasoriginally intended for military use; however, civilians may also take advantage of its highlyaccurate position capabilities, typically within +/- 10 meters, depending on conditions. Thismeans that 95% of the time, the GPS receiver will read a locationwithin 10meters of your actualposition. Some GPS Receivers also use information from WAAS (the Wide Area AugmentationSystem), EGNOS (the European Geostationary Navigation Overlay Service), and MSAS (theMTSAT Satellite Augmentation System) satellites if they are available in your area.

GPS uses a constellation of satellites that continually sendradio signals to the earth. Your present position isdetermined by receiving signals from satellites andmeasuring the distance from the satellites.

All satellites broadcast a uniquely coded signal once persecond at exactly the same time. The GPS receiver on yourboat receives signals from satellites that are visible to it.Based on time differences between each received signal, theGPS receiver determines its distance to each satellite. Withdistances known, the GPS receiver mathematicallytriangulates its own position.With once per second updates,the GPS receiver then calculates its velocity and bearing.

The following GPS functionality is currently supported by the Fishing System when it isconnected to a GPS receiver:

• View current position• View current track (breadcrumb trail)• View precision speed and heading from your GPS receiver• Save tracks and waypoints• Travel a route and navigate from one waypoint to the next

Connecting a Handheld GPS Receiver to the Fishing SystemHumminbird has designed two different direct-connect cables to fit the most common GPSReceiver configurations. In case neither of the two direct-connect cables fit your configuration, wealso provide a cable that can connect your Handheld GPS Receiver to your Fishing System controlhead via an additional NMEA data cable which you must purchase from your Handheld GPSReceiver manufacturer.

Handheld GPS Connection KitThe Humminbird Handheld GPS Connection Kit includes the following items:

NOTE: You may have purchased either a direct-connect NMEA data cable, or one that requires splicingto an additional NMEA data cable (made by the manufacturer of the Handheld GPS receiver) tocomplete the connection to the Handheld GPS receiver.

NOTE: The AS-HHGPS accessory requires the purchase of an additional NMEA data cable (made bythe manufacturer of the Handheld GPS Receiver) to complete the connection to the Handheld GPSReceiver.

Direct-connect Cable Installation (AS HHGAR082, AS HHMAG344)Use the following instructions to direct-connect your Handheld GPS Receiver to yourFishing System.

1. Insert the Handheld GPS Cable’sNMEA-COM connector into theappropriate terminal slot on the backof your Fishing System control head.The slots are keyed to prevent reverseinstallation, so be careful not to forcethe connector into the holder.

NOTE: If the terminal slot is already used byanother accessory, you will need to use theincluded Y-cable. Insert the Y-cable’s COMconnector into the appropriate terminal sloton the back of your Fishing System controlhead, then connect the Handheld GPSCable to the NMEA-COM connector, andattach your accessory cable to the ACCY-COM connector.

2. Connect the Handheld GPS Cable toyour Handheld GPS Receiver. Referto your Handheld GPS Receivermanufacturer’s user manual forinstructions.

3. Your NMEA Cable allows you to connect your Handheld GPS Receiver to an external12 VDC power supply. If you choose to run your Handheld GPS Receiver from anexternal 12 VDC power supply, connect the black wire to ground (-) and the red wireto positive (+) 12 VDC power.

CAUTION! Use caution before connecting the red +12V wire to your Handheld GPS Receiver, andconsult your Handheld GPS Receiver manufacturer’s user manual before connecting power andground. Some Handheld GPS Receivers have a different voltage input than 12V.

4. Power up the Fishing System Control Head (see your Fishing System OperationsManual for details).

NOTE: The Fishing System accepts NMEA 0183 version 2.20 input at 4800 baud and listens for theNMEA sentences RMC and GGA to determine current position, heading, speed, time and date. Inaddition, the GSA and GSV sentences are used to monitor GPS satellite location and usage.

5. If the NMEA output of your Handheld GPS Receiver can be configured, confirm thefollowing settings on your GPS Handheld Receiver:

• NMEA Output = enabled• Baud rate = 4800• RMS and GGA sentences = enabled

NOTE: See your Handheld GPS Receiver manufacturer’s user manual for NMEA output information.

Bare Wire Cable Installation (AS-HHGPS)Use the following instructions to connect your Handheld GPS to your fishing system using theAS-HHGPS. You will need to purchase the NMEA data cable (not included) from themanufacturer of your Handheld GPS Receiver.

1. Insert the Handheld GPS Cable’s NMEA-COM connector into the appropriate terminalslot on the back of your Fishing System control head. The slots are keyed to preventreverse installation, so be careful not to force the connector into the holder. Thepinouts of the Humminbird NMEA data cable are as follows:

• Red Wire: +12V• Black Wire: Ground• Green Wire: NMEA In• White Wire: NMEA Out

NOTE: Depending on your Fishing System model, when the Fishing System detects theNMEA-input from the Handheld GPS Receiver, the Combo, Track and Bird’s Eye Views will beadded automatically to the VIEW key function. A Navigation Menu tab and the NavigationX-PressMenu will also be added automatically to the menu system.

NOTE: If the terminal slot is already used by another accessory, you will need to use the includedY-cable. Insert the Y-cable’s COM connector into the appropriate terminal slot on the back of yourFishing System control head, then connect the Handheld GPS Cable to the NMEA-COM connector,and attach your accessory cable to the ACCY-COM connector.

2. Connect the NMEA In (Green wire) of the cable to the NMEA Out of your HandheldGPS Receiver.

CAUTION! Use caution before connecting the red +12V wire to your Handheld GPS Receiver, andconsult your Handheld GPS Receiver manufacturer’s user manual before connecting power andground, as some Handheld GPS Receivers have a different voltage input than 12V. The Fishing Systemcontrol head can provide a maximum of 100mA to a Handheld GPS Receiver. The voltage provided istypically 1 volt lower than the boat battery voltage supplied to the Fishing System control head.

NOTE: The white NMEA Out wire is provided for other uses, such as connecting to an autopilot, butit is not needed to connect to a Handheld GPS Receiver.

3. Connect the Handheld GPS Cable to your Handheld GPS Receiver. Refer to yourHandheld GPS Receiver manufacturer’s user manual for instructions.

4. Your NMEA Cable allows you to connect your Handheld GPS Receiver to an external12 VDC power supply. If you choose to run your Handheld GPS Receiver from anexternal 12 VDC power supply, connect the black wire to ground (-) and the red wireto positive (+) 12 VDC power.

CAUTION! Use caution before connecting the red +12V wire to your Handheld GPS Receiver, andconsult your Handheld GPS Receiver manufacturer’s user manual before connecting power andground. Some Handheld GPS Receivers have a different voltage input than 12V.

ViewsThe following views will be added to the view rotation when aHandheld GPS Receiver is connected to the Fishing System:

When the VIEW key is pressed, the display cycles through the available views. When the EXITkey is pressed, the display cycles through the available views in reverse order. Any view can behidden or displayed as part of the view rotation using the ViewsMenu tab. Refer to your FishingSystem Operations Manual for more details.

Combo ViewCombo View is displayed as a split screen, with Track View on the left and Sonar View onthe right side of the screen. The width of the sonar window can be changed by pressing theMENU key and using the 4- WAY Cursor Control key to select Sonar Window from the SonarX-Press Menu.

Panning: Use the 4-WAY Cursor Control key to move the track around on the display in thedirection of the key being pressed. When you do this, a bull’s eye cursor is drawn at the centerof the screen and is linked to the boat by a gray line, even if the boat is off the screen. latitude/longitude coordinates of the cursor, are displayed at the bottom of the view. Pressingthe EXIT key moves the cursor back to the original position of the boat.

Bird’s Eye ViewBird’s Eye View shows a 3D perspective view of the track from a point above and behind theboat (the eye point). As the boat turns, the eye point moves to follow the boat.

When you press the 4-WAY Cursor Control key in the Bird’s Eye View, the position of the eyepoint will shift. This allows you to move and turn the eye point so that you can look off to thesides, or even behind the boat. Pressing the RIGHT or LEFT arrow keys on the 4-WAY CursorControl key turns the eye point right or left, while pressing the UP arrow keymoves the eye pointforward, and pressing the DOWN Cursor key moves the eye point backward.

Pressing the EXIT keymoves the eye point back to its original position behind and above the boat.

View OrientationWhen your Fishing System control head is in Track or Combo View, you can choose theorientation of the view by selecting North-Up or Course-Up on the Navigation Main Menu.When North-Up orientation is selected, True North is shown at the top of the display. In otherwords, objects located to the north of the boat are drawn above the boat. When Course-Uporientation is selected, the direction of motion of the boat is shown at the top of the display. Inother words, objects ahead of the boat are drawn above the boat. In both orientations, the viewpans automatically, so that the boat is always centered on the display.

NOTE: When the boat is stationary, it is drawn as a circle. When the boat is in motion, it takes on aboat shape, pointed in the direction of motion (always Up in the Course-Up orientation).

Introduction to NavigationUse your Fishing System to establish waypoints at areas of interest and navigate to thosewaypoints via a route (representing the shortest intended distance between waypoints). Youcan also view and save tracks, which represent the actual path of the boat. Refer to your FishingSystem Operations Manual for more details.

Waypoints, Routes and TracksWaypoints are stored positions that allow you to mark areas of interest or navigation points.

Routes link two or more waypoints together to create a path for navigation, and are used in tripplanning. A route represents your intended navigation and shows the shortest path from eachwaypoint to the next. As you travel a route, staying on the route line is the most efficient wayto get to your destination, although you should always look out for obstacles not shown on thefishing system view.

Tracks consist of detailed position history, and are displayed as a breadcrumb trail of trackpoints.The Current Track shows the position history since the unit was powered up. You can clear theCurrent Track or save it at any time. The current track represents your actual path so far.

Save, Edit, or Delete a WaypointSave your current position as awaypoint:On any view, press theMENU key to display the X-PressMenu. Select Mark and press the RIGHT Cursor key to save the current position of the boat as awaypoint.

Save the cursor position as a waypoint: On the Track or Combo View, use the 4-WAY CursorControl key to designate the position you want to save as a waypoint. Then press theMENU keyto display the X-Press Menu. Select Mark and press the RIGHT Cursor key to save the currentposition of the boat as a waypoint.

Save a position from the sonar history: On any Sonar View, use the 4-WAY Cursor Control keyto point to a feature in the sonar history (also called the Sonar Saver feature). Then press theMENU key to display the X-Press Menu. Select Mark and press the RIGHT Cursor key to createa waypoint at the location where that sonar reading was taken. The new waypoint will alsorecord the depth at that location.

NOTE: When you save a waypoint by any of these methods, a numerical waypoint name isautomatically assigned. You can edit the waypoint information later to give it a different name andselect an icon to represent it (see Navigation Menu Tab, Waypoint Submenu).

Display the Waypoints Submenu: From any view,press the MENU key twice to display the Main MenuSystem, then use the RIGHT Cursor key to select theNavigation tab. Select Waypoints and press the RIGHTCursor key to display the Waypoints submenu.

Program a specific position as a waypoint: To create awaypoint that is NOT your current position, from theWaypoints submenu, select the Create option and press the RIGHT Cursor key. Use the 4-WAYCursor Control key to programawaypoint name, latitude, longitude, and icon before selecting Save.

Edit a waypoint: From the Waypoints submenu, select Edit and press the RIGHT Cursor key todisplay a list of saved waypoints. Select the waypoint you want to edit and press the RIGHTCursor key. Use the 4-WAY Cursor Control key to move from field to field, and the UP and DOWNCursor keys to change values once you are in a field. In the Waypoint Name, Latitude andLongitude fields, use the UP and DOWN Cursor keys to change the letter or number. All upperand lower case letters are available, as well as digits 0-9 and some punctuation characters. Inthe Waypoint Icon field, use the UP and DOWN Cursor keys to change the icon used torepresent the waypoint on the Combo and Track Views. You can exit these fields with the LEFTand RIGHT Cursor keys or by pressing the EXIT key. Select Save and press the RIGHT Cursor keyto save your changes.

To make it easier to view a waypoint to edit, select Sort By and press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursorkeys to select a sort order:

• Name shows the waypoints alphabetically• Time shows the most recently-created waypoint first• Distance shows the closest waypoint first.

Delete a waypoint: From the Waypoints submenu, select Delete and press the RIGHT Cursorkey to display a list of waypoints. Select the waypoint you want to delete, then press the RIGHTCursor key. You will be asked to confirm deletion before the waypoint is deleted.

Navigate to a Waypoint or PositionNavigate to the cursor position: From the Track or Combo View, use the 4-WAY Cursor Controlkey to select a position or waypoint to which you want to navigate. Press the MENU key once todisplay the Navigation X-Press Menu. Select Go To and press the RIGHT Cursor key. Navigationwill begin immediately.

Navigate to a specified waypoint: Press the MENU key once to display the Navigation X-PressMenu. Select Go To and press the RIGHT Cursor key. Then choose the waypoint to which youwould like to navigate from the waypoint list and press the RIGHT Cursor key to select it.

NOTE: By repeating the previous instructions, you can add more waypoints to create a longer multi-segment route.

Skipping a waypoint: From the Navigation X-Press Menu, select Skip Next Waypoint and pressthe RIGHT Cursor key. If there is not another waypoint to skip to, navigation will be cancelled.

Cancel navigation: From the Navigation X-Press Menu, select Cancel Navigation and press theRIGHT Cursor key. Canceling navigation removes the route and any waypoints created.

Add a Waypoint Target or Trolling GridAdd or Remove a Waypoint Target: From theWaypoints submenu, select Target and pressthe RIGHT Cursor key to display a list ofwaypoints. Select the waypoint you want totarget. A target consisting of concentric circlescentered on the selected waypoint will appearon all of the navigation views; the target showsvarious distance ranges from the targetedwaypoint. To remove the target, chooseRemove Target from the Navigation X-PressMenu, and press the RIGHT Cursor key.

Add or Remove a Trolling Grid: From theWaypoints submenu, select Grid and press theRIGHT Cursor key to display a list of waypoints.Select the waypoint to which you want to addthe grid. The trolling grid will appear on all ofthe navigation views and can be used as aguide when trolling around a waypoint. Thegrid can be rotated to any desired headingusing Grid Rotation from the Navigation mainmenu. To remove the trolling grid, chooseRemove Grid from the Navigation X-PressMenu, and press the RIGHT Cursor key.

NOTE: Only one waypoint can have either a target or a grid at one time. If you apply a target or agrid to a new waypoint, the original waypoint will lose its target or grid.

NOTE: The spacing of the rings on the waypoint target and the spacing of the grid lines on thetrolling grid is the same as the length of the scale bar on the left edge of the display. Zooming inor out will decrease or increase the spacing, respectively.

Save or Clear a Current TrackSave the current track: From the Navigation X-Press Menu, select Save Current Track and pressthe RIGHT Cursor key. The track will remain on the display, but will change from black to gray.To remove the track completely from the display, see Edit, Delete or Hide Saved Tracks.

NOTE: When you save a track, a name is automatically assigned. The track name consists of adate/time stamp but can be re-named later (see Edit a Saved Track).

Clear the current track: From the Navigation X-Press Menu, select Clear Current Track andpress the RIGHT Cursor key. The track will be removed from the display and discarded.

Edit, Delete or Hide Saved TracksDisplay the Tracks Submenu: From any view, press the MENU key twice to display the MainMenu System, then use the RIGHT Cursor key to select the Navigation tab. Select Saved Tracksand press the RIGHT Cursor key to display the Saved Tracks submenu.

Edit a saved track: From the Saved Tracks submenu, select Edit and press the RIGHT Cursor keyto display the list of saved tracks. Select the track you want to edit and press the RIGHT Cursorkey. When the Edit Track dialog box appears, use the 4-WAY Cursor Control key to movebetween fields. In the Track Name field, the UP and DOWN Cursor keys change the letter ornumber. All upper and lower case letters are available, as well as digits 0-9 and somepunctuation characters. You can exit the Track Name field with the LEFT and RIGHT Cursor keysor by pressing the EXIT key. Select Save and press the RIGHT Cursor key to save your changes.

Delete a saved track: From the Saved Tracks submenu, select Delete and press the RIGHTCursor key to display the list of saved tracks. Select the track you want to delete and press theRIGHT Cursor key. You will be asked to confirm deletion before the track is actually deleted.

Hide or display a saved track: From the Saved Tracks submenu, select Edit and press theRIGHT Cursor key to display the list of saved tracks. Select the track you want to hide ordisplay, and press the RIGHT Cursor key. When the Edit Track dialog box appears, use the LEFTand RIGHT Cursor keys to change the Visibility field to Hidden or Visible. Press the EXIT key toreturn to the Tracks submenu.

The Menu SystemThe menu system is divided into easy-to-use menu modules. The main components of the menusystem are as follows:

Start-Up Options Menu - Press the MENU key during the power up sequence to view theStart-Up Options menu.

X-Press Menu - The X-Press Menu allows you to access the frequently-used settingswithout having to navigate through the whole menu system.

Press the MENU key once to display the X-Press Menu. When youselect a menu item from the X-Press Menu, the menu will collapse,leaving only the menu choice on the screen. Use the UP or DOWNCursor keys to reactivate the X-Press Menu.

NOTE: The X-Press Menu choices will vary depending on which view isactive when you press the MENU key, as well as whether you are inNormal or Advanced User Mode. Either the Sonar or NavigationX-Press Menu will appear, depending on the view you are in.

Main Menu Tabs - Less frequently-adjusted menus are grouped into the Main Menu System.TheMainMenu System is organized under the following tab headings to help you find a specificmenu item quickly: Alarms, Sonar, Navigation (if the GPS Receiver is attached), Setup, Views,and Accessories.

Press the MENU key twice for the Main Menu, then use the RIGHT orLEFT Cursor keys to select a tab, and use the DOWN or UP Cursor keysto select a specific menu item under that tab, then use the LEFT orRIGHT Cursor keys again to change a menu setting. Press the EXIT keyto move quickly to the top of the tab. A down arrow at the bottom ofa menu means that you can scroll to additional menu choices usingthe DOWN Cursor key. A right or left arrow on a menu choice meansthat you can use the RIGHT or LEFT Cursor keys to make changes or tosee more information.

NOTE: The Main Menu choices will vary depending on whether youare in Normal or Advanced User Mode or if you have other accessoriesattached. Refer to your Fishing System Operations Manual for moredetails.

Main Menu SystemNormal User Mode

X-Press Menu

User Mode (Normal or Advanced) - An Advanced Mode isprovided for users who desire the highest level of control over theFishing System, and NormalMode is provided for users who desiregreater simplicity and fewer menu choices. Additional Advancedmenu choices will be displayed throughout the menu systemwhen you navigate to specific menus while in Advanced Mode.Any changes made while in Advanced Mode will remain in effectafter you switch back to Normal Mode. For example, if you setspecific views to be visible while in Advanced User Mode, andthen return to Normal User Mode, those views will still be visible.

To change the User Mode Setting: Highlight User Mode on theSetup Menu tab, and use the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to set theUser Mode to Normal or Advanced.

Total Screen Update -When you change any menu settings thataffect the View, the view will update immediately (i.e. you don’thave to exit the menu to apply the change to the screen).For instance, by selecting Bottom View from the X-Press Menu,and switching between “Inverse” and “Structure ID”, it is possibleto alternate quickly between the two viewing methods.

Normal OperationUse Normal operation for on the water operation with a transducer connected. In addition, yourFishing System uses advanced transducer detection methods to determine if a transducer isconnected. If a functioning transducer is connected, Normal operation will be selectedautomatically at power up and your Fishing System can be used on the water.

Exit Normal operation by powering your Fishing System off.

SimulatorUse the Simulator to learn how to use your FishingSystem before taking your boat on the water. TheSimulator is a very powerful tool that simulates on thewater operation, providing a randomly-updated display.We recommend going through this manual while usingthe Simulator, since all of the menus function and affectthe display the way they actually do when in Normaloperation.

NOTE: To get the full benefit of the Simulator, it is important to select Simulator manually from theStart-Up Options menu as opposed to letting the Fishing System enter Simulator automatically (as itwill if a transducer is not connected and you do nothing during power up). Manually selectingSimulator from the Start-Up Options menu allows you to pre-configure your Fishing System for on thewater operation. Any menu changes you make will be saved for later use.

A message will appear on the display periodically to remind you that you are using the Simulator.

Exit the Simulator by powering your Fishing System off.

System StatusUse System Status to view system connections and to conduct a unit self-test. Exit SystemStatus by powering your Fishing System off.

The following screens are displayed in turn when you press the VIEW button when usingSystem Status:

• Self Test• Accessory Test• GPS Diagnostic View.

Self Test displays results from the internal diagnostic selftest, including unit serial number, Printed Circuit Board(PCB) serial number, software version, total hours ofoperation and the input voltage.

Accessory Test lists the accessories connected to thesystem.

NOTE: The speed accessory will be detected only if thepaddlewheel has moved since your Fishing System waspowered up.

GPS Diagnostic View shows a sky chart and numerical data from the GPS receiver. The sky chartshows the location of each visible GPS satellite with its satellite number and a signal strengthbar. A dark grey bar indicates that the satellite is being used to determine your current position.A light gray bar indicates that the satellite is being monitored, but is not yet being used.

NOTE: The GPS Diagnostic View only appears if the GPS Receiver is connected.

This view also reports the current position, local time and date, and other numeric information.The current GPS Fix Type is reported as No Fix, 2D Fix, 3D Fix, or Enhanced. An Enhanced fix hasbeen augmented using information from WAAS, EGNOS, or MSAS. A 3D or Enhanced Fix isrequired for navigation. HDOP (the Horizontal Dilution of Precision) is a GPS system parameterwhich depends on the current satellite configuration. HDOP is used to calculate the EstimatedPosition Error.

PC Connect(With PC Connect Cable Only)Use PC Connect to update the software of the Fishing System control head. This featurerequires the use of the PC Connect Cable. Complete instructions are included with the PCConnect Cable accessory.

To Move a Cursor to a Saved Waypoint:

1. Highlight Cursor to Waypoint on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to initiate Cursor to Waypoint.

3. Press the UP or DOWN Cursor key to highlight the waypoint you wish to move thecursor to, then use the RIGHT Cursor key to select the destination waypoint.

ZoomZoom allows you to change the scale of the Bird’s Eye, Trackand Combo Views.

To Zoom:

1. Highlight Zoom on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to increase or decrease the Zoom level.

Go ToGo To allows you to start Navigation towards a waypoint. If the

Cursor is active, choosing Go To creates a waypoint and starts navigation towards thatwaypoint. If the Cursor is not active, choosing Go To displays the list of waypoints so that youcan select the waypoint towards which you want to navigate.

To Begin Navigation:

1. Highlight Go To on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key. Navigation will begin immediately if the Cursor is active.If the Cursor is not active, the Waypoint selection list will appear. Select a waypointfrom the list by using the 4-WAY Cursor Control key, and navigation will beginimmediately.

Save Current TrackSave Current Track allows you to save the current track beingdisplayed. After the current track is saved, a new current trackis started.

NOTE: Save Current Track appears on the Navigation X-Press Menu after you have finishednavigation.

To Save Current Track:

1. Highlight Save Current Track on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to initiate saving the current track.

3. The Confirm dialog box will appear. To save the current track, press the RIGHT Cursorkey once more. To cancel saving the current track, press the LEFT Cursor key.

Clear Current TrackClear Current Track allows you to clear the current track beingdisplayed and start a new track at the present position.

To Clear Current Track:

1. Highlight Clear Current Track on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to initiate clearing the current track.

3. The Confirm dialog box will appear. To clear the current track, press the RIGHT Cursorkey once more. To cancel clearing the current track, press the LEFT Cursor key.

Skip Next Waypoint(Only When Navigating)

Skip Next Waypoint removes the next waypoint from the current route. This menu choice willonly appear when you are currently navigating a route.

To Skip Next Waypoint:

1. Highlight Skip Next Waypoint on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to initiate skipping the next waypoint.

3. The Confirm dialog box will appear. To skip the next waypoint, press the RIGHT Cursorkey once more. To cancel skipping the next waypoint, press the LEFT Cursor key.

Cancel Navigation(Only When Navigating)

Cancel Navigation discards the current route and exits NavigationMode. This menu choice willonly appear when you are currently navigating a route.

To Cancel Navigation:

1. Highlight Cancel Navigation on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to initiate canceling navigation.

3. The Confirm dialog box will appear. To cancel navigation, press the RIGHT Cursor keyonce more. To avoid canceling navigation, press the LEFT Cursor key.

Remove Target(Only if a Target is Active)

Remove Target removes the waypoint target from the display. This menu choice will onlyappear when a target has already been applied to a waypoint. See Navigation Menu Tab:Waypoints for more information.

To Remove a Target:

1. Highlight Remove Target on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to remove the target.

Remove Grid(Only if a Grid is Active)

Remove Grid removes the waypoint grid from the display. This menu choice will only appearwhen a grid has already been applied to a waypoint. See Navigation Menu Tab: Waypointsfor more information.

To Remove a Grid:

1. Highlight Remove Grid on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to remove the grid.

Sonar Window(Combo View Only)

Sonar Window sets the size of the Sonar Window in the Combo View. Sonar Window can onlybe accessed from the Combo View.

To Set the Size of the Sonar Window in the Combo View:

1. Highlight Sonar Window on the Navigation X-Press Menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to adjust the size of the sonar window.(Wide, Medium, Narrow, Default = Medium)

To view the Saved Tracks Submenu:

1. Highlight Saved Tracks on the Navigation main menu.

The Saved Tracks Submenu contains the following menu choices:

Edit allows you to select a saved track and change its Name, Visibility, Style and Color. SelectEdit and press the RIGHT Cursor key to display the list of saved tracks. Select the track you wantto edit and press the RIGHT Cursor key. When the Edit Track dialog box appears, use the 4-WAYCursor Control key to move between fields and make changes to the following categories:

Name: Use the 4-WAY Cursor Control key to change the name of the saved track. Pressthe LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to move between name fields, and press the UP andDOWN Cursor keys to change the letter or number of each field. All upper and lowercase letters are available, as well as digits 0-9 and some punctuation characters.

Visibility: Press the UP or DOWN Cursor keys to select Hidden or Visible.

Style: Press the UP and DOWN Cursor keys to choose the track style (appearance).

Color: After you’ve chosen a track style, the color field will appear. Press the Up andDOWN Cursor keys to choose a color or shade.

NOTE: You can exit these fields with the LEFT and RIGHT Cursor keys or by pressing the EXITkey. Select Save to confirm your changes.

Delete allows you to delete a track from the list of saved tracks. Select Delete and press theRIGHT Cursor key to display the list of saved tracks. Select the track you want to delete andpress the RIGHT Cursor key. You will be asked to confirm deletion before the track ispermanently deleted.

Default sets the default appearance of the tracks you use. Select Default and press the RIGHTCursor key to display the Default Track dialog box. Use the 4-WAY Cursor Control key to movebetween fields and change the settings for Visibility, Style and Color.

WaypointsWaypoints allows you to view the Waypoints submenuto easily manage the waypoints on your Fishing System.

To view the Waypoints Submenu:

1. Highlight Waypoints on the Navigation main menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to view the Waypoints submenu.

The Waypoints Submenu contains the following menu choices:

Create allows you to create a new waypoint and edit it immediately. The current boat positionwill be used as the default, but you can set the coordinates to any valid position. The icon usedto represent the waypoint in the Track and Combo Views can also be changed. Press the RIGHTCursor key to create a waypoint and make changes to the following settings:

Name: Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to move between name fields, and pressthe UP and DOWN Cursor keys to change the letter or number of each field. All upperand lower case letters are available, as well as digits 0-9 and some punctuationcharacters.

Latitude & Longitude: Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to move between latitudeor longitude fields, and press the UP and DOWN Cursor keys to change thecoordinates of each field.

Icon: Select the Icon field and use the Up and Down Cursor keys to scroll through avariety of icons to assign to your waypoint.

NOTE: You can exit these fields with the LEFT and RIGHT Cursor keys or by pressing the EXITkey. Select Save to confirm your changes.

Edit allows you to choose from a list of saved waypoints, and then edit the Name and Position(Latitude and Longitude), as well as assign an Icon to represent the waypoint in the Track andCombo Views. Select Edit, and press the RIGHT Cursor key to display the saved Waypoints list.Use the UP and DOWN Cursor keys to choose a waypoint from the list, and press the RIGHTCursor key to display the Edit Waypoint Dialog box. Refer to the details above to changewaypoint settings.

Delete allows you to delete a waypoint from the list of saved waypoints. Select Delete, andpress the RIGHT Cursor key to display the saved Waypoints list. Use the UP and DOWN Cursorkeys to choose a waypoint, and press the RIGHT Cursor key. The Confirm dialog box will appear.To delete the waypoint, press the RIGHT Cursor key once more. To cancel deleting the waypoint,press the LEFT Cursor key.

Cursor To allows you to move the cursor quickly to a waypoint from the list of saved waypoints.Select Cursor To and press the RIGHT Cursor key to view the saved waypoints list. Use the UPand DOWN Cursor keys to choose a waypoint from the list, and press the RIGHT Cursor keyagain to initiate the cursor to that waypoint.

Go To allows you to select a waypoint and start navigation toward that waypoint, or add thatwaypoint to the end of the current route. Select Go To, and press the RIGHT Cursor key to viewthe saved waypoints list, and use the UP and DOWN Cursor keys to choose a waypoint from thelist. Press the RIGHT Cursor key again to initiate navigation to the waypoint you choose.

Target allows you to apply a target to a waypoint selected from the list of waypoints. SelectTarget, and press the RIGHT Cursor key to view the saved waypoints list. Use the UP and DOWNCursor keys to choose a waypoint from the list. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to apply a target tothe waypoint you choose.

Grid allows you to apply a trolling grid to a waypoint selected from the list of waypoints. SelectGrid, and press the RIGHT Cursor key to view the saved waypoints list. Use the UP and DOWNCursor keys to choose a waypoint from the list. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to apply a trollinggrid to the waypoint you choose.

NOTE: Only one waypoint can have either a target or a grid at one time. If you apply a target or agrid to a new waypoint, the original waypoint will lose its target or grid.

NOTE: The spacing of the rings on the waypoint target and the spacing of the gridlines on thetrolling grid is the same as the length of the scale bar on the left edge of the display. Zooming inor out will decrease or increase the spacing, respectively.

View OrientationView Orientation allows you to select whether the Track andCombo Views should be drawn North-Up or Course-Up.

NOTE: The View Orientation setting does not apply to the Bird’s Eye View.

To change the View Orientation setting:

1. Highlight View Orientation on the Navigation main menu.

North ReferenceNorth Reference allows you to have bearings displayed withone of two orientations: True North or Magnetic North.

To change the North Reference setting:

1. Highlight North Reference on the Navigation main menu.

Grid RotationGrid Rotation allows you to set the orientation of the trolling

grid in degrees, where a setting of 0° displays a standard North, South, East, West alignment.See Navigation Menu Tab: Waypoints for more information on how to set a Grid.

To change the Grid Rotation setting:

1. Highlight Grid Rotation on the Navigation main menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to change the Grid Rotation setting. (0° to 89°,Default = 0°)

Trackpoint IntervalTrackpoint Interval allows you to select the time period

between trackpoints. The current track can only contain up to 2000 trackpoints, so longer timeperiods cause the track to extend back further in time, but will be less detailed.

NOTE: Trackpoint Interval works in conjunction with Track Min Distance. Both conditions must bemet before a trackpoint is added to the current track.

To change the Trackpoint Interval setting:

1. Highlight Trackpoint Interval on the Navigation main menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to change the Trackpoint Interval setting.(1 second, 5 seconds, 10 seconds, 15 seconds, 30 seconds or 60 seconds, Default = 15seconds)

NOTE: During slow travel or drift, setting both Trackpoint Interval and Track Min Distance to smallvalues will allow you to increase the track resolution.

Track Min Distance(Advanced)

Track Min Distance allows you to set a minimum distance of travel before a trackpoint is addedto the track. The Track Min Distance menu choice is only available when User Mode is set toAdvanced (see The Menu System: User Mode).

NOTE: Track Min Distance works in conjunction with Trackpoint Interval. Both conditions must bemet before a trackpoint is added to the current track.

To change the Track Minimum Distance setting:

1. Make sure you are in Advanced User Mode, then highlight Track Min Distance on theNavigation main menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to change the Track Min Distance setting. (1 to 300feet or 1 to 100 meters [International Units Only], Default = 16 ft, 5 m)

Map Datum(Advanced)

Course Projection LineCourse Projection Line allows you to display or hide an arrow

extending from the bow of the boat that projects your current course, and shows where theboat will go if you continue on your present course.

To change the Course Projection Line setting:

1. Highlight Course Projection Line on the Navigation menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to change the Course Projection Line setting.(Hidden, Visible, Default = Hidden)

Delete All Nav Data(Advanced)

Delete All Nav Data allows you to delete all saved Tracks and Waypoints. This menu choiceshould be used with caution. The Delete All Nav Data menu choice is only available when UserMode is set to Advanced (see The Menu System: User Mode).

To Delete All Navigation Data:

1. Make sure you are in Advanced User Mode, then highlight Delete All Nav Data on theNavigation main menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key. The Confirm dialog boxwill appear. To cancel all navigationdata, press the RIGHT Cursor key once more. To avoid canceling navigation data, pressthe LEFT Cursor key.

Continuous Navigation ModeContinuous Navigation Mode allows you to continue to

navigate and fish around a particular waypoint, even if you pass over it multiple times.

To Activate or Deactivate Continuous Navigation:

1. Highlight Continuous Navigation Mode on the Navigation main menu.

To change the Arrival Alarm setting:

1. Highlight Arrival Alarm on the Alarms main menu.

Triplog ResetTriplog Reset resets the Triplog to zero. The Triplog provides thefollowing information: timer for elapsed time, distance traveledsince last reset, and average speed.

NOTE: See your Fishing System Operations Manual: Select Readouts to find out how to displayTriplog information on the screen.

To Reset Triplog:

1. Highlight Reset Triplog on the Setup menu.

2. Press the RIGHT Cursor key to initiate Triplog Reset.

3. The Confirm dialog box will appear. To reset the Triplog, press the RIGHT Cursor keyonce more. To cancel Reset Triplog, press the LEFT Cursor key.

Local Time Zone(Advanced)

Local Time Zone selects your time zone in reference to the time reported by the GPS receiverwhen Time+Date is selected as a Digital Readout on the Sonar View (see Select Readouts inyour Fishing System Operation Manual). This menu choice is available only when in AdvancedUser Mode (see The Menu System: User Mode.)

To change the Local Time Zone:

1. Make sure you are in Advanced User Mode, then highlight Local Time Zone on theSetup menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to change the Local Time Zone(Default = EST [UTC-5] - Eastern Standard Time).

Daylight Saving Time(Advanced)

Daylight Saving Time adjusts the time display to account for local Daylight Saving Time.Selecting On adds one hour to the time display adjusted for your local time zone. Selecting Offleaves the time display as adjusted for your local time zone. This menu choice is available onlywhen in Advanced User Mode (see The Menu System: User Mode.)

To change the Daylight Saving Time setting:

1. Make sure you are in Advanced User Mode, then highlight Daylight Saving Time onthe Setup menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to turn Daylight Saving Time On or Off. (Off, On,Default = Off)

Position Format(Advanced)

Position Format selects the format of the latitude and longitude position display. This menuchoice is available only when in Advanced User Mode (see The Menu System: User Mode.)

To change the Position Format setting:

1. Make sure you are in Advanced User Mode, then highlight Position Format on theSetup menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to change the Position Format. (dd.ddddd°,dd°mm.mmm', or dd°mm'ss", Default = dd°mm.mmm')

Time Format(Advanced, International Only)

Time Format changes the time format used by the unit. This menu choice is available only whenin Advanced User Mode (International Models only). Time Format selects a 12 hour or 24 hourformat for the time of day displayed when Time + Date is selected as a Digital Readout on theSonar View (see Select Readouts in your Fishing System Operation Manual).

To change the Time Format:

1. Make sure you are in Advanced User Mode, then highlight Time Format on theSetup menu.

2. Press the LEFT or RIGHT Cursor keys to change the Time Format. (12 hour, 24 hour,Default = 12 hour)

Date Format(Advanced, International Only)

Date Format changes the date format used by the unit. This menu choice is available only whenin Advanced UserMode (International Models only). Date Format selects the format for the datedisplay when Time + Date is selected as a Digital Readout on the Sonar View. (see SelectReadouts in your Fishing System Operation Manual).

To change the Date Format:

1. Make sure you are in Advanced User Mode, then highlight Date Format on the Setupmenu.

NMEA Output(Advanced)

NMEA Output turns the NMEA* output on or off. This menu choice is available only whenin Advanced User Mode (see The Menu System: User Mode.) NMEA Output should beturned On if you connect the NMEA Output wires of the GPS Receiver cable to anotherNMEA-compatible device, such as an autopilot.

*NMEA 0183 is a National Marine Electronics Association standard for data communication.

TroubleshootingBefore contacting Humminbird Customer Service, please read the following section. Taking thetime to review these troubleshooting guidelines may allow you to solve a performance problemyourself, and therefore avoid sending your unit back for repair.

Fishing System Doesn’t Power UpIf your Fishing System doesn’t power up, use the Installation Guide that also comes with it forspecific confirmation details, making sure that:

• the power cable is properly connected to the Fishing System control head• the power cable is wired correctly, with red to positive battery terminal and black to

negative terminal or ground• the fuse is operational• the battery voltage of the power connector is at least 10 Volts

Correct any known problems, including removing corrosion from the battery terminals or wiring,or actually replacing the battery if necessary.

Fishing System Defaults to Simulator with a Transducer AttachedA connected and functioning transducer will cause the newly-started Fishing System to go intoNormal operating mode automatically. If, when you power up the Fishing System, it goes intoSimulator mode automatically, even though a transducer is already connected, this means thatthe control head is not detecting the transducer. Perform the following troubleshooting tasks:

• Using the Installation Guide that also comes with your Fishing System, check to makesure that the transducer cable is securely connected to the Fishing System. Reconnectif necessary, and power up the Fishing System again to see if this fixes the problem.

• Replace the non-functioning transducer with a known good transducer if available andpower up the control head again.

• Check the transducer cable. Replace the transducer if the cable is damaged or corroded.

Display ProblemsThere are several main conditions or sources of possible interference that may cause problemswith the quality of the information displayed on the control head. Look in the following table forsome symptoms of display problems and possible solutions:

Problem Possible Cause

The control head loses power athigh speeds.

When the boat moves at higherspeeds, the bottom disappearsor suddenly weakens, or thedisplay contains gaps.

There are no fish detected, evenwhen you know they are in thewater under the boat, or sonarreadings seem weak or faulty.

If the power output of your boat’s engine isunregulated, the control head may be protecting itselfusing its over-voltage protection feature. Make surethe input voltage does not exceed 20 Volts.

The transducer position may need to be adjusted. Amix of air and water flowing around the transducer(cavitation) may be interfering with the interpretationof sonar data. See your Installation Guide forsuggestions on adjusting the transducer position.

Electrical noise from the boat’s engine may beinterfering with sonar reception. See Finding theCause of Noise for more information.

Sonar readings may be affected if the transducer isnot positioned correctly (i.e. mounted at an angle, notstraight down), or there is some kind of mechanicalinterference, either because it is mounted inside a hullthat is too thick for proper sonar transmission, thebond between the transducer and the hull is notairtight, or because the transducer is dirty. Check withyour Installation Guide for guidance on re-positioningthe transducer, andmake sure the transducer is clean.

Low battery voltage may be affecting the power ofsignal transmission.

Electrical noise from the boat’s engine may beinterfering with sonar reception. See Finding theCause of Noise for more information.

Finding the Cause of NoiseElectrical noise usually affects the display with many black dots at high speeds, and highsensitivity readings. One or more of the following sources can cause noise or interference:

Possible Source of Noise Isolation

Other electronic devices

The boat’s engine

Cavitation from the boat’spropeller

Turn off any nearby electronic devices to see if theproblem goes away, then turn them on one at a time tosee if the noise re-appears.

To determine whether the boat’s engine is the sourceof the noise, increase the RPMs while the boat is inneutral and stationary to see if the noise increasesproportionately; if noise appears when you rev theengine, the problem could be the spark plugs,alternator, or tachometer wiring. Replace the sparkplugs with resistor plugs, install an alternator filter, orroute the control head power and transducer cablesaway from the engine wiring.

Turbulence created by the propeller can cause noise;make sure the transducer is mounted at least 15”(38 cm) from the propeller, and that the water flowssmoothly over the face of the transducer at all times.

We warrant the original retail purchaser that products made by Humminbird have beenmanufactured free from defects in materials and workmanship. This warranty iseffective for one year from the date of original retail purchase. Humminbird productsfound to be defective and covered by this warranty will be repaired or replaced free ofcharge at Humminbird’s option and returned to the customer freight prepaid.Humminbird’s sole responsibility under this warranty is limited to the repair orreplacement of a product that has been deemed defective by Humminbird. Humminbirdis not responsible for charges connected with the removal of such product orreinstallation of replaced or repaired parts.

This warranty does not apply to a product that has been:

• Improperly installed;

• Used in an installation other than that recommended in the product installationand operation instructions;

• Damaged or has failed because of an accident or abnormal operation;
