Prior to students chewing the gum she had them to use three of their five senses: sight, smell, and touch to begin to describe its look, aroma, and texture. Multicultural Learning Last week our 8th grade class learned about the Filipino culture. Mrs. Flamiano, 8th grade science teacher, shared

cultural facts and games. Our students were inquisitive and analytical during the presentation and were excited

about participating in the games.

Independent Reading Independent reading is a time in the school day or a time at home when students read text with little or no assistance from the teacher. They are typically at their seats or in comfortable places around the classroom.

Please ask your child to share their 3rd Nine Weeks Reading Goal with you. To achieve this goal, students are being ask to read daily at home and at school. After reading, they are to talk or write about what they’ve read, and then take an AR quiz. Research has proven that, students who scored 90% better than their peers on reading tests, read for more than 20 minutes a day – exposing them to 1.8 million words a year.

Mrs. Teresa Taylor from Denmark Technical College spoke with our 8th grade students about behavior expectations for college admission and to help our 8th graders understand they are building their foundation for college. Thank you, Mrs. McCants, Career Specialist, for organizing this event for our students.
