Hammer Martello Gran Fondo 2017 We were blessed with great weather and this combined with the brilliant atmosphere to make a superb day. This was a true sportive with riders of all abilities from 1st and 2nd category road racers through to people facing the challenge of their first event. We were extremely lucky to welcome Andrew White on his return to the UK after winning Gold and Silver at the Invictus Games in Canada last week. Luckily, he'd recovered from the jet lag in time for the Martello! The OCRA team at the Pavilion in the Park provided a fantastic venue and were wonderful hosts. We are extremely grateful for their support and very much look forward to running further events from there and will certainly be using their facilities in 2018. The crew from Sportive Cycling Magazine did a brilliant job, not only running the feed stations at both Torrington and Lifton, but also providing the broom wagon and collecting in the signs (after having helped to put them out in the pouring rain on the Saturday). This is the UK's only dedicated sportive magazine and it will be well worth your while to follow them at - http://www.sportivecycling.uk/ We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our other sponsors - Favis of Salcombe, Shutt Velo Rapide, Lifton Farm Shop, the Red Post Inn and Hammer Bikes. Please make a note in your diary for our next event - the Hammer Sportive from Salcombe on the 15th of April. Full details will be online very soon and entries will open next month. It will offer the usual choice of 3 stunning routes in the South Hams (135, 105 and 65 km) with entries on both a solo and team basis. We will also run our usual series of Challenge Rides over the winter, with the aim of providing some focus and fun through the long, dark months. They offer a choice of 3 or 4 hour rides with set routes of 50, 60 and 70 miles. Your challenge is to ride your selected route within the time limit before heading in the cafe for a chance to chat through the day. These will run on: 12th November from either Roadford Lake or Okehampton (tbc) 10th December from Salcombe 14th January from either Roadford Lake or Okehampton (tbc) 11th February from Salcombe 11th March from either Roadford Lake or Okehampton (tbc) 14th May on Exmoor Full details will be online very soon (free to members of Hammer Sport CC or £5 to all others) - everyone welcome. On behalf of Hammer Sport, I'd like to thank all those who rode and contributed to such a great day. We all look forward to seeing you next time! Ciao!

Hammer Martello Gran Fondo 2017 We were blessed with great weather and this combined with the brilliant atmosphere to make a superb day. This

was a true sportive with riders of all abilities from 1st and 2nd category road racers through to people facing the

challenge of their first event. We were extremely lucky to welcome Andrew White on his return to the UK after

winning Gold and Silver at the Invictus Games in Canada last week. Luckily, he'd recovered from the jet lag in time

for the Martello!

The OCRA team at the Pavilion in the Park provided a fantastic venue and were wonderful hosts. We are extremely

grateful for their support and very much look forward to running further events from there and will certainly be

using their facilities in 2018.

The crew from Sportive Cycling Magazine did a brilliant job, not only running the feed stations at both Torrington

and Lifton, but also providing the broom wagon and collecting in the signs (after having helped to put them out in

the pouring rain on the Saturday). This is the UK's only dedicated sportive magazine and it will be well worth your

while to follow them at - http://www.sportivecycling.uk/

We would also like to take this opportunity to thank our other sponsors - Favis of Salcombe, Shutt Velo Rapide,

Lifton Farm Shop, the Red Post Inn and Hammer Bikes.

Please make a note in your diary for our next event - the Hammer Sportive from Salcombe on the 15th of April. Full

details will be online very soon and entries will open next month. It will offer the usual choice of 3 stunning routes in

the South Hams (135, 105 and 65 km) with entries on both a solo and team basis.

We will also run our usual series of Challenge Rides over the winter, with the aim of providing some focus and fun

through the long, dark months. They offer a choice of 3 or 4 hour rides with set routes of 50, 60 and 70 miles. Your

challenge is to ride your selected route within the time limit before heading in the cafe for a chance to chat through

the day. These will run on:

10th December from Salcombe

14th January from either Roadford Lake or Okehampton (tbc)

11th February from Salcombe

11th March from either Roadford Lake or Okehampton (tbc)

14th May on Exmoor

Full details will be online very soon (free to members of Hammer Sport CC or £5 to all others) - everyone welcome.

On behalf of Hammer Sport, I'd like to thank all those who rode and contributed to such a great day. We all look

forward to seeing you next time!

Sportive Cycling Magazine – Lead Sponsor

Sportive Cycling Magazine is the UK’s only online magazine dedicated to riders of UK Sportives and European

Cyclosportives and we were delighted to become the lead sponsor of the amazing Hammer Martello 2017.

Conceived in early 2016, the Hammer Martello was designed to be the UK’s only real ‘Falling Leaves’ sportive

following in the wheel-tracks of Il Lombardia, the pro monument taking place on the Saturday and the Gran Fondo

on the Sunday of the same weekend.

Jez Meades, Founder and Editor of Sportive Cycling said, “Our philosophy and approach to sportive riding is born out

of a personal passion and aspiration to compete in amazing sportive events and to share that passion with our

readers.”

Sportive Cycling follows a simple approach – Aspire, Prepare, Achieve! Our readership will find many articles of some

amazing and inspirational European Cyclosportives that our writers have ridden. Plus, articles about preparation

covering nutrition, training, bike preparation and riding skills. All designed to help riders of all abilities Achieve!

Aspire, Prepare, Achieve!

The Hammer Martello, as you have now experienced, is not the normal type of UK Sportive and has a format that

closely resembles a European Cyclosportive. Jez Meades said, “The fast, flowing parcours can be as tough or

spectacular as you want to make it! The roads are ideal for those wanting to secure a good time while others can

enjoy the amazing scenery across North Cornwall and North Devon. The Hammer Martello fits with our philosophy

and approach – we had to be lead sponsors!”
