    HAMLET

The Tragedy of Hamletis a play written by William Shakespeare, over

the years, this play has had many adaptations on the screen. The cinema can

show different aspects of the play, due to the technology that helps the public a

better understanding of the film. The using of camera angles, music and

effects are valued because with them directors save time, and in somehow this

approach the new generations to Shakespeares works. The film that is going

to be use to compare the film with the play is the Francos Zeffirelli, based on

The Tragedy of Hamlet with el !ibson as the main character.

First, it is important to say that Zeffirelli did not give importance to the

political issues that the original play show" he focused on #amlets problems.

The play and the film start different. $n the one hand, the play starts with the

scene at the guard%platform of the castle where acerllus, &ernardo and

#oratio were talking about king #amlet ghost. 'n this part, #oratio shows the

political situation in which the kingdom of (enmark was involved )Whose

image even but now appeared to us, Was, as you know, by Fortinbras of Norway,Thereto

pricked on by a most emulate pride, Dared to the combat; in which our valiant HamletDid

that Fortibras son has been prepared against the kingdom of (enmark.

$n the other hand, the film start with the funeral of #amlets father and

the announcement of the weeding, the reason why #amlet is upset. 'n the film,

the ghost appear after a few minutes, putting the attention of the watcher in

#amlets actions. 'n the play, the weeding and the funeral already happened,

and laudius is conscious about the plans that has Fortinbrass son against his

kingdom and he shows happiness to be the king of (enmark.

'n both the anger of #amlet increase after the apparition of the ghost,

because it reveals to him the true about his death" that is why desire of revenge

from the principal character rises. 'n the play, #amlet seem to be angry with

his mother, because she looks very happy married with laudius. 'n the film

he seem to feel /ealous of his uncle, and he reacts cra0ily when !ertrude

defends laudius and her own actions. (uring this confrontation, #amlet kills

1olonius and the only way to calm his fury is with as kiss from his mother.

'n the film laudius is character that does not seem a bad person /ust at

the end of the film that personality is reveal. 'n the play he is seem as an

intelligent and manipulative person. 'ntelligent because he tries to avoid the

#amlets future. Something that did not work because #amlet discover the

hide intentions of laudius, and he send to his friends to death instead of him.

&ut that action was unfair, because their classmates did not know the content

of the letter, they /ust want to help #amlet to recover his mental sanity.

2evertheless, the role of women in the play is very important. $n one

hand !ertrude, that is the representation of se7uality, because she married

brother%in%law. +lso, she is in a conflict trying to reconcile #amlet and her

husband, she has to decide between her husband and his son, at the end she

decided to support his son, because at the end she have always been worried

    about #amlets actions and sanity.

'n the other hand $phelia is the representation of innocence and

obedience. The first one is see when she talks with #amlet and she continued

believing in his love )ay, truly; for the power of beauty will sooner transform honesty

something that makes him different from the others, it is the 4enaissance
