Take part in Earth Day, and in the future it will pay

Earth Day is a day early each year on which events are held worldwide to increase awareness and appreciation of 

the Earth's natural environment. Earth Day is now coordinated globally by the Earth Day Network ,[1] and is celebrated in

more than 175 countries every year.[2] In 2009, the United Nations designated April 22 International Mother Earth Day.[3] Earth Day is planned for April 22 in all years at least through 2015.[4] 

Earth Day is a launch pad for course-changing, positive environmental action. Since 1970, Earth Day has activated

individuals and organizations annually to strengthen the collective fight against man’s exploitive relationship with 

the planet. The Earth Day campaign aims to combat climate change by driving substantive behavioral change and channel

quantifiable action on behalf of the environment.

Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22

Why only 22 April ? 

Because it did not fall during exams or spring breaks, did not conflict with religious holidays and was late enough in springto have decent weather.

It is now observed in 175 countries, and coordinated by the nonprofit Earth Day Network, according to whom Earth Day is

now "the largest secular holiday in the world, celebrated by more than a half billion people every year."[32]

 Environmental

groups have sought to make Earth Day into a day of action which changes human behavior and provokes policy changes.[33] 

There are many songs that are performed on Earth Day, that generally fall into two categories. Popular songs by

contemporary artists not specific to Earth Day that are under copyright, or new lyrics adapted to children's songs. Creating

new lyrics that are easily translated into multiple languages, and set to a universally recognized melody in the public domain,

does not appear to have been attempted.

The "Earth Day Anthem" below satisfies these requirements for a universal song associated with Earth Day. Ludwig

van Beethoven's "Ode to Joy" melody is already the official anthem of the European Union (in that case purely instrumental

without lyrics), the melody is widely recognized and easily performed, in the public domain, and originally composed forvoice. Lyrics for the Earth Day Anthem set to "Ode to Joy" are provided below:

Earth Day reminds us we all share the same planet. Sharing Earth means taking responsibility for what we use and how we

use it. It is a day to think of the environmental challenges we face and how to solve them. Protecting Earth is every person’s

and every country’s responsibility.

Parties All Around the Globe

People traditionally celebrate Earth Day with the ringing of bells, often bells of peace. The tradition of bell ringing is

practiced all over the world on Earth Day. Representatives from Palestine, Austria, and Russia have all rung a Peace Bell ina ceremony celebrating the protection of the environment and of Earth’s many species.

Children in India put on this “Save the Earth” skit to celebrate the planet and to raise environmental awareness.

A Rally in India

In India, one Earth Day was celebrated by approximately 1,200 kids. They held a rally during which they carried signs with

slogans and messages about preserving all of nature. The children also performed skits about the environment. The India

Habitat Center held painting and quiz competitions. At other events, kids presented a “Children’s Clean Air Manifesto” tothe president’s wife. Then they held a Children’s Bicycle Rally to promote nonpolluting forms of transportation.

In Kenya, Earth Day is celebrated along with the country’s National Tree Planting Day. Citizens and students plant trees inorder to preserve forests and keep the environment clean.

More Trees for Kenya

In Kenya, distinguished guests and schoolchildren planted 1,000 trees in Nairobi’s  endangered Karura forest. The plantingswere in honor of Earth Day and Kenya’s National Tree Planting Day on April 21.
