Continuity editContinuity editing refers to arranging the sequence of shots to suggest a progression of events in a logical way. Continuity also provides a smooth seamless transitions and it is very important element to keeping your edits unnoticed by the viewer.

Shot reverse shot

A film technique wherein one character is shown looking (often off-screen) at another character, and then the other character is shown looking "back" at the first character. Since the characters are shown facing in opposite directions, the viewer unconsciously assumes that they are looking at each other.

Eye line matchingThe matching of eye lines between two or more characters. This shot establishes the relationship of proximity and continuity. Also, An eye line match is a film editing technique that is associated with the continuity editing system. It is based on the principle that the audience will want to see what the character on-screen is seeing. The eye line match begins with a character looking at something off-screen, there will then be a cut to the object or person at which he is looking.

Match on action is a very simple but essential technique, where the perspective of the camera changes during a scene and the scene continues to flow.

Graphic matchingA match cut is any cut that emphasizes continuity. It is a cut in film editing from one scene to another in which the two camera shots' compositional elements match, helping to establish a strong continuity of action - and linking two ideas with a metaphor. It is also when you have two successive shots joined so as to create a strong similarity of compositional elements and it matches the graphics.
