Bats in the Library June 20 @ 2pmMeet bats from across the world and learn why these wonderful animals are so important to ecosystems, and to you! You will meet four bats from around the world, includ-ing the species of bat in the book “Stellaluna’ All Ages.
Hoedown July 14 @ 7pmDress as a cowboy or cowgirl and come enjoy a good old-fashioned hoedown.
Play games, eat some food and learn a bit of line-dancing. All Ages Welcome!
Field Day July 27 @ 2pmWe will be out in the Fields, running
around, playing games and being loud. Wear old cloths, gym shoes and bring
water. Ages 6 and up

How the Summer Reading Program works at Hamburg Township Library!
1. All books read must be new to you and from the Hamburg Township Library (graphic novels and e-books count)
2. For every half-hour read, come in and put a sticker by your name on the posters in the Children’s Area of the Library.
3. Once you’ve read at least 15 hours total, you will have reached the goal and will be invited to the Summer Reading End Party (Wed. August 2 @ 6:30pm) for pizza, cookies and a free book.
4. You will be able to record your reading time from Sat. June 3 to Sat. July 29.
5. Complete one bingo line (up, down, diagonal, NO FOUR CORNERS) to receive an entry into our End Party Gift Card drawing. Cover the whole card and receive 3 entries. Must attend party to receive gift cards and one card per person. Bingo cards can be picked up at the front desk.
6. Anyone can participate in reading program but the Kids Bingo is for 17 and under please.
7. All registrations will begin the night of the KICK-OFF PARTY.

Library’s Butterfly Garden by Linda Boland, Michigan State University Extension Master Gardener and Library volunteer.
Monarch Catepillaron Common Milkweed
Many other animals are taking advantage of the garden’s offerings: in early spring 2016 a female Wood Duck made a nest between the clumps of tall grass; Goldfinches and other birds enjoy feeding on seeds of the flowering plants (they don’t seem to mind when people are working in the garden just a few inches away); Praying Mantises help with pest control, as do the toads that rest under the leaves of the Wild Ginger; and then there are the humans that pick the herbs and vegetables. Shortly after its creation, the garden was certified as a Wildlife Habitat
by the National Wildlife Federation. This season the garden will be getting new plant labels, a new tree, and plenty of new plants for the butterflies and other pollinators to enjoy!
specifically chosen as hosts for the butterflies in their larval stage, when hungry caterpillars are busy munching on leaves such as mint, dill, parsley, and Wild Columbine.Plenty of nectar sources were planted to ensure that adults have an abundance and variety of food such as Coneflower, Bee Balm, and
Goldenrod. With four different milkweed varieties, the Monarch butterfly specifically benefits from the garden, as it sustains the species throughout its life cycle. In fact, the first year the garden bloomed (spring/summer 2016) several Monarch caterpillars were spotted!

The Butterfly Garden was planted in the spring of 2016 and serves our butterfly and pollinator population by meeting the needs of these animals at each stage of life. Pick up a Bingo sheet at the library. (at the June 2 Kickoff Party or any time after)
Each square has a different thing to do or read at the library.
Mark off each square as your complete it.
Each time you complete a Bingo, bring your sheet to the front desk to receive a small prize, and be entered in a drawing to win a larger prize.
