Jazz Prelims Jazz Starters II

Bill BoYD (1933-2001) played professionally as both a solo performer

and band member in hotels, supper clubs, and private clubs in New York

and Long Island for many years. Mr. Boyd composed numerous jazz col-

lections published by Hal Leonard, including the Think Jazz! piano method

and the Jazz Starters series for beginners. He received a master’s degree

from Columbia University and taught junior high school in Huntington,

Long Island, for over twenty years. After retiring from teaching, Mr. Boyd

devoted all his time to arranging and composing.

where he is Director of Piano Pedagogy Studies and Coordinator of the

Class Piano Program. As a clinician, he has given Hal Leonard presenta-

As a pianist, he has been hailed by his critics for his “considerable talent...honest musician-ship and a formidable technique.” His performances have taken him through-out the United States, appearing as recitalist, guest artist, concerto soloist, and collaborative artist. His competition winnings include the Grand Prize in the Stravinsky Awards International Competition, and First Prize in the Music Teachers National Association National Collegiate Finals. Dr. Edwards has pre-viously served as part-time faculty at several colleges, including the Peabody Conservatory of Music in Baltimore, and Assistant Professor of Music at Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland. Currently, he resides with his family in Kansas Citym Missouri area where he is associate professor of music and Director of Keyboard Studies at Missouri Western State University.

phillip keveren, a multi-talented keyboard artist and composer, has

composed original works in a variety of genres from piano solo to sym-

phonic orchestra. Mr. Keveren gives frequent concerts and workshops

for teachers and their students in the United States, Canada, Europe and

Asia. Mr. Keveren holds a Bachelor of Music in composition from California

State University, Northridge, and a Master of Music in composition from the

CAROL klose

Carol klose, an accomplished performer, teacher, clinician, composer,

and arranger, teaches piano and composition privately in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.

Formerly on the faculty of the Wisconsin College Conservatory of Music, she

has conducted workshops and master classes in the U.S. and Australia, spe-

cializing in student composition. With over 30 years in the music publishing

field, her original works include piano solos, duets, art songs, a musical version

of Dickens Christmas Carol, as well as pieces in the Hal Leonard Student Piano

Library and the NGPT Allison Contemporary Piano Collection. Ms. Klose holds

degrees in piano performance from Dominican University (summa cum laude)

Library. Ms. Rejino maintains an independent piano studio in Carrollton,

Texas, where she has taught students of all ages and levels since 1983, as

Composer, lyricist, pianist, and teacher, eugÉnie roCherolle

began an early career in publishing with choral and band music. In 1978,

with the success of her first piano solo collection, she soon established

herself as one of the leading American composers of piano repertoire.

The Eugénie Rocherolle Series is her signature collection, offering both

original compositions and popular arrangements with CD recordings per-

formed by Ms. Rocherolle. A native of New Orleans, she graduated from

Newcomb College of Tulane University with a BA in music.

Christos tsitsaros is currently Associate Professor of Piano

Pedagogy at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. The recipi-

ent of numerous scholarships and awards, Dr. Tsitsaros has appeared

in recitals, chamber music concerts and as a soloist throughout Europe

and the United States. He holds the Diplôme Supérieur d’Execution

from the école Normale de Musique de Paris, an Artist Diploma and MM

degree from Indiana University, and a DMA in piano performance from the

University of Illinois.
