TheCaribbeanIslandsareoneofthemosttraveledtoplaceintheworld.OneoftheseislandsintheCaribbeanSeaistheislandofHispano,whichisboththecountriesofHaitiandtheDominicanRepublic.Thiscountryhasarecordedhistoryofabout552years.Theyalsohavespecialculture.Thegeneralfacts,pasthistory,andculturealleffectthewaysofthiscountry.

ThecountryofHaitiislocatedintheCaribbeanSea,whichisjustsouthoftheGulfofMexico.TheCaribbeanSeaishometoalotoftheworldsisland.ThecapitalisPortauPrince,whichislocatedinthemiddleofthecountryrightnexttoGolfedelaGonave.Thewholecountyisabout10,700squaremiles.Itcontainsanestimated6,867,995people,thisisabout642peoplepersquaremile.ThisisactuallyquitedenseconsideringthattheUnitedStateshasabout76peoplepersquaremile.

ThecountryofHaiticultureisverymuchliketheFrench.InfactHaitiistheonlyLatinAmericancountrywherethecultureisFrench.ThefirstlanguageisFrench,butanothercommonlanguagethatisspokenthereisCreole.ManyofthepeoplespeakCreolebecausetheFrenchsettlersintroducedit.CreoleisamixofFrenchandthenativelanguagethatwasspokenontheisland.NinetyfivepercentofthepeopleofHaiticomefromanAfricandecent.ThereligionconsistsofeightypercentRomanCatholic,sixteenpercentProtestant,andninetyfivepercentVoodoo.

Betweentheyearsof1492tothepresentdayalotofhistoricaleventshaveoccurred.ThefirsttimethecountryofHaitifellunderEuropeanrulewaswhenChristopherColumbusfirstsetfootonitputtingitundertheruleoftheSpanish.Thenafter,manyrevolts,in1804Haitisuccessfullybecameanindependentcountrybypassingalawstatingitsfreedom.ItwasverymuchlikewhentheUnitedStatesofAmericadeclareditsindependencefromGreatBritainwiththeDeclarationofIndependence.From19151934USMarinesoccupiedthecountry.Thisresultedinthepopulationtogoupwhichalsomadethecountrymoredense.In1949thedemocraticrulewasturnedintoadictatorship.Thenin1991therewasthefirstelectedchiefbroughtintooffice.HisnamewasJeanBertrandAristidehewon67%ofthevotes.ThenhisclosefriendandformerPrimeMinisterRenPrevalsucceededhimin1995.

ThecountryofHaitiisconsideredtobeaCaribbeanIslandthoughinmanywaysitdiffersfrommanyothercountriesinthearea.ThecultureismainlyFrenchduetotheearlyfindingsbytheEuropeans.Thisthencausedthepeoplelivingtheretospeakupanddeclareitselfanindependentcountry,whileothercountriesownmanyoftheislandsinCaribbean.ThereligionisverydifferentduetothefactthatitismostlymadeupofpeoplewhopracticethereligionofVoodoo.Whenallofthelocation,cultureandpasthistorycomeintoplayitcomesouttobeaveryuniquecountry.
