HAGUE CONVENTION TALK
Enlightening. The Talk of Mr. Christophe Bernasconi was enlightening. I never knew that there was more than one Hague convention. I do not even know what the hague convention really is until I attended the talk. From what I knew, the Hague Convention is a series of treaties that are ratified by most nations around the Globe. The relevance of these conventions is that it improves the rule of law of nations. It may even promote human rights.
I have learned the importance of one of the Hague Conventions and that is the Apostille Convention. In this international treaty, a document certified in one of the signatory states is also valid in other signatory states like a notary public.
In my opinion, the importance of this treaty with our local government law is that corrupt officials who execute documents in other signatory states cannot escape from the fact that they have executed contracts that used public funds. This ensures transparency and governance in the greater scheme of things. I personally agree that the Philippines should be a signatory of more Hague Conventions as it assures that social justice, equality, and human rights are upheld.
