Habitat For Humanity Build The mission of Habitat for Humanity is to build decent and affordable houses in partnership with God’s people and to strengthen neighborhoods. First UMC McKinney is once again joining with other area Methodist churches to build a home for Renita Carter and her children.

Renita and her family relocated to McKinney from California in 1991. She is currently working in Allen as a Purchasing Assistant. Renita’s 22 year-old daughter, Re’Jana, graduated in May 2016 from Collin College for nursing and Jay‘Den is Renita’s 13 year-old son. Renita and her children will be visiting First UMC McKinney this Sunday.

Caldwell Christmas Boutique Donations Now Being Accepted

Bring your new or like-new donations for the Caldwell Christmas Boutique. You can bring gift items to church on Sunday, November 20. Boxes to leave your donations are located in the Foyer.

The "shopping" in the boutique remains the highlight for our specially selected Caldwell students. For many of these students, it's the first time to be able to "shop" for their parents or caregivers. The items in our boutique are donated by YOU, the members of our church. These items are artfully displayed so as to be attractive to our young shoppers.

Donations are being accepted for both men and women. The most popular are decorative items, ball caps, tools, lotions, sports sweats, scarves, Christmas décor, etc. Also needed are medium and large gift bags and tissue paper.

Caldwell Christmas will be held on Tuesday, December 13 at 4:30 pm. This event is one of First UMC McKinney’s largest outreach missions. The success of this event depends on a church-wide effort.

On Sunday, November 27th through Sunday, December 18th, First UMC McKinney will begin our annual “Heifer International Campaign.” In light of Hurricane Matthew that devastated parts of the Caribbean in October, this year’s campaign takes on an even more urgent mission for Heifer International Haiti. More than 6,500 Heifer project families primarily in the southern region of Haiti were affected with devastating losses including more than 650 hectares in agricultural crops, between 4,000-5,000 goats, 60%-70% poultry, and more than 15% of pigs all destroyed.

Currently Heifer Haiti is working with Grace Children’s Haiti and the King Organization in the hopes of providing both emergency provisions and supplies that can help mitigate the long-term fallout of this latest disaster. Over the long term, gifts and donations will help people recover and rebuild.

As an alternative to commercial giving this Christmas, a table will be set up in the church hallway where everyone can “purchase” animals. Goats, cows, chickens, and pigs are the most needed animals this year at Heifer International Haiti. Sponsored animals will help restock the lost animals which feed as well as furnish a source of income for impoverished families in Haiti.

You will also be able to purchase gift cards and brochures to help tell the Heifer story to friends and family on your gift list this year. And, be sure to visit the website at www.heifer.com to learn more.

For more than 70 years, Heifer International has worked in 125 countries and has helped 22.6 million families lift themselves out of hunger and poverty. But, nearly one billion people around the world still live in extreme poverty. Heifer’s goal is to help end hunger and poverty in the world and at the same time to protect the environment. Heifer provides not only animals but also training to families and communities, giving them a way to raise themselves up from poverty. An important part of the Heifer program is for the recipient of the animal to “Pass on the Gift” of the animal’s offspring to another family creating a chain of ongoing self-sufficiency.

Experience the true spirit of Christmas giving this year at First UMC McKinney as you help us “Restock the Livestock in Haiti”. Don’t just buy a gift that will only need more batteries or that might not fit or please. Give a gift that will keep on “mooooving” the love and compassion to those in need around the world as we share the love of Jesus with people across the globe.
