H.4.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) May 2k, 1961 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended May 17: Increases of $323 million in loans adjusted, $1,l48 million in holdings of U. S. Government securities, and $1,750 million in U. S. Government demand deposits, and a decrease of $933 million in demand deposits adjusted. Commercial and industrial loans increased $80 million. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. S. Government securities increased $297 million. Holdings of Treasury bills increased $68 million, Treasury certificates increased $718 million, and the combined total of Treasury notes and U. S. Government bonds in- creased $362 million. Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks increased $523 million but borrowings from others decreased $3^9 million. Loans to domestic commercial banks decreased $428 million.     (For Immediate Release) May 2k, 1961 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES

    The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended May 17: Increases of $323 million in loans adjusted, $1,l48 million in holdings of U. S. Government securities, and $1,750 million in U. S. Government demand deposits, and a decrease of $933 million in demand deposits adjusted.

    Commercial and industrial loans increased $80 million. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying U. S. Government securities increased $297 million.

    Holdings of Treasury bills increased $68 million, Treasury certificates increased $718 million, and the combined total of Treasury notes and U. S. Government bonds in-creased $362 million.

    Borrowings of weekly reporting member banks from Federal Reserve Banks increased $523 million but borrowings from others decreased $3^9 million. Loans to domestic commercial banks decreased $428 million.
