H.4.2 BOARD OF GOVERNORS OF THE FEDERAL RESERVE SYSTEM (For Immediate Release) December 3, 1952 CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES The condition statement of weekly reporting member banks in leading cities shows the following principal changes for the week ended November 26: Increases of $1,169 million in holdings of Treasury bills, $300 million in reserve balances with Federal Reserve Banks, $?4l million in demand deposits adjusted, and $1,346 million in United States Government deposits, and a decrease of $646 million in demand deposits credited to domestic banks. Commercial, industrial, and agricultural loans increased $14 million; changes according to industry are available in another press release. Loans to brokers and dealers for purchasing or carrying United States Government securities increased $140 million. "Other loans" increased $27 million. Holdings of Treasury bills increased in all districts, reflecting the sale of a new issue of tax anticipation bills. Holdings of Treasury certificates of indebt- edness decreased $23 million. Holdings of Treasury notes and of United States Government bonds increased $15 million and $19 million, respectively. Holdings of "other securities" increased $21 million. Demand deposits adjusted increased $244 million in the Chicago District, $240 million in New York City, $68 million in the Cleveland District, $62 million in the San Francisco District, $53 million in the Philadelphia District, and by smaller amounts in most of the other districts. United States Government deposits increased and demand deposits credited to domestic banks decreased in all districts. CONDITION OF WEEKLY REPORTING MEMBER BANKS IN LEADING CITIES
