1 – PURPOSE

This attachment to specification H-655 describes various aspects for the isometric production phase of the project.No detailed description of the isometric production process is specified, as this is largely the responsibility of eachDEC. However, certain milestones and criteria in this process are important for the Lummus material managementsystem and reporting purposes, and therefore addressed in this specification.

Each DEC remains responsible for meeting schedules, managing priorities, maintaining quality and cost control.Basically each DEC must ensure a faultless and clash free design meeting the client and project requirements,with all related materials timely uploaded in MARIAN to facilitate the (pre-) fabrication of these piping systems inthe shop and/or field according plan.

2 – DEFINITIONS

For this document the following definitions apply:

Distribution – Checked Isometric released internally for review and or input (e.g. to the Pipe-stressengineer, Process, Instrumentation, etc.)

3 – ISOMETRIC LAYOUT

The isometric layout as agreed with the client will be provided by LGN. Note that no automatic isometric-split (byPDMS) is allowed. One “Pipe” in PDMS shall fit on one isometric sheet. If a Pipe requires more isometric-sheets,a forced-split will be required (i.e. more pipes/isometrics of the same LPA).Separate isometrics (sheets) are required for pipe-rack isometrics. See the Piping Design instructions (H-005) for more details on isometric breaks and isometric annotation requirements.

4 – ISOMETRIC STATUS AND REVISION CONTROL

Isometric Status is an indication of the completeness-level of an isometric. Isometrics released internally(distribution) shall have an internal revision indicator and logged in PIAS (LGB, LGS), or Status file (TEIL).This revision identifier is per isometric status:

B1: Checked isometric (subsequent revisions are B2, B3, etc.) – status 60%C1: Isometric completed and ready for approval (subsequent revisions are C2, C3, etc.) – status 80%

It is very important to adhere to these revision indicators, as they are also used in MARIAN for revision control of the related piping materials.

The next status will be the AFC issue – status 100%. Isometrics released externally (issue) shall have an externalrevision indicator and logged in PIAS. This identifier is rev. 0 for the first issue.

Sometimes it is required to revise an AFC isometric. Such a revision may require an internal redistribution (e.g. to

the pipe-stress engineer). The following will apply:

D1: internal revision identifier for a revision to AFC isometric. After internal distribution and approvals, the isometric shall be re-issued with rev. 1.This process can be repeated: E1 → rev.2, etc.

Obviously, revisions to AFC isometrics are to be avoided as much as possible!

 Attachment 1 paragraph 7 will give further instructions about the handling of revisions to AFC isometrics.

5 – ISOMETRIC MILESTONES AND RELEASE

Each DEC may use its own work-process in producing AFC isometrics, however, a number of elements that tiesinto the material management concept of the project needs to be adhered to. Each DEC shall maintain anadministration system for revision control and to keep track of the progress and/or status of each isometric.

The following milestones are mandatory for all DEC’s as they are also used for overall progress control (includingisometric production curves), and for the material management process (including work-front analysis).

(1) Progress values shall be maintained for each isometric. Overall progress reporting shall be performed as per 

Project Control instructions.

(2) Material uploads from PDMS to MARIAN is automatically initiated by PIAS for LGN and LGS. For TEIL afacility in PDMS will be provided. As of the first B1 distribution, all follow-up distributions or issues (with a newrevision indicator) shall be executed simultaneously with a new material upload to MARIAN.

5.1 – Status: INPUT STARTED

This is an indication that the isometric (pipe) is provisionally built in PDMS. All DEC’s will be provided with a list of isometrics (pipes) built in PDMS by LGN during Front-end design (see alsospecification H-654). These pipes are mostly built with the actual pipeclass, but sometimes a dummy pipeclass isused in case the actual pipeclass was not yet available. These lines are built without small-bore details and need

to be finalized by the DEC (see specification H-654 for details). But first these lines need to be imported into theappropriate location of the PDMS project hierarchy using a special import routine ( provided by LGN ).

Upon completion, a check-print shall be produced so that the isometric can be thoroughly checked beforedistribution and/or upload of materials to MARIAN (see next paragraph).

Ensure the LPA breaks are in line with the PEFS and the MTO.

5.2 – Status: CHECKED ISOMETRIC IN DISTRIBUTION

This is a very important isometric milestone, as this status will initiate the first upload of actual material quantitiesfrom PDMS to MARIAN. Moreover, when the last isometric of an LPA reaches this status, it will cause the LPA to“close” whereby the bulk MTO in MARIAN will be “replaced” by material quantities as uploaded from PDMS.

Therefore the quality of these isometrics is very important.

Checking the isometric:

Isometrics are to be checked with the latest available information prior to its distribution. Any “holds” are to beflagged (and if possible resolved). See Attachment 1 par. 4 for the handling of pipe materials on hold.The isometric check must focus on its completeness (yellow-off check, LPA break, material list), correctness (withrespect to, CWP number, vendor data, pipe class, specifications, job notes and instructions, etc.), and overallquality (correct use of attributes, clash free, efficiency in design, minimum number of welds, etc.).

 Addendum-I provides an isometric checklist for your guidance.

Ensure that all relevant materials are shown on the isometric (incl. small bore connections such as vents, drains,purge or flush connections, instruments, etc.) A “Master set” PEFS set shall be maintained to log all changes (from Process but also from Piping Design). Major 

deviations to the PEFS initiated by Piping Design (e.g. for layout purposes) are to be discussed with the <LGN?> Process Engineer first.

Distributing the isometric:

 An isometric schedule shall be prepared by each DEC with the number of isometrics planned for release per milestone and per week. This will be the basis for the isometric production curves (produced by LGN). Theseschedules shall be weekly maintained via PIAS (or the Status/ Interface file for TEIL) with the number of actualreleased isometrics.

Each DEC shall strive to release isometrics in line with the priority definitions, and to close an LPA as quickly aspossible. This will benefit the Pipe-stress & Support engineer (he will have an overview of the entire system), andwill initiate MARIAN to use the true material quantities from PDMS for requisitioning, instead of the manual bulkMTO quantities.

PIAS users (LGB and LGS) shall ensure that the allocated number of sheets for a LPA is continuously updated for a correct assessment of the LPA status. Also the total number of isometrics (used by PIAS for progresscalculation) shall be regularly updated. TEIL will do a manual assessment of the LPA status, and input the resultin PDMS (special attribute).

Upon distribution, the (internal) revision indicator will be “B1”. The isometric distribution shall be as per  (local)distribution schedule. < who will define? >.

With the distribution of the isometrics, the document and related files are (to be) uploaded into iDocs. <ITAS to

 provide instructions/ details>.. Materials will be uploaded to MARIAN as initiated by PIAS (for LGN and LGS). Theupload of materials for TEIL is to be handled via PDMS.

5.3 – Status: ISOMETRIC FOR APPROVAL 

This indicates that the isometric is essentially completed and released for approval. Before its release all checkshave to be completed against the latest (and final) information. Pipe support data has to be added and a stressanalysis (if applicable) performed. Note that a complete re-check of the isometric may be required due to the time-span between the previous check (B1 distribution) and the current status. Also a final clash check must beperformed.

Note that with the isometric release, splitted isometrics (e.g. due to the addition of pipe support information) are tobe distributed simultaneously for a correct material update.

Upon distribution, the (internal) revision indicator will be “C1”. The procedure for distribution and approval of critical isometrics for Process and Instrumentation is still to be established by the DEC. < JBRO to discuss withProcess and Instruments >. Process critical piping systems are identified in the line-schedule.With the distribution of the isometrics, the document and related files are (to be) uploaded into iDocs, and the(upgraded) materials uploaded in MARIAN.

5.4 – Status: AFC ISOMETRIC 

 After completion of the isometric and with the necessary approvals obtained, the isometric can be issued AFC.<Hold for recipients schedule for AFC isometrics>. With each issue (initiated from PIAS for LGB and LGS, or PDMS for TEIL) a new material upload to MARIAN shall be initiated.

In principle no isometrics are to be issued containing one or more holds. Exceptions to this are only allowed inconsultation with LGN. One exception that needs to be evaluated in due time is an early release of (incomplete)pipe-rack isometrics to facilitate early pipe-rack loading.

 All AFC isometrics shall be stored in iDocs for further processing. The HSE Engineer can submit the isometricsrequiring authority approvals using iDocs (together with related documents such as pipe-classes, calculations,etc.) to the respective authorities.

6 – ISOMETRIC CHANGES IN PDMS

The (bulk) MTO is prepared per LPA, and actual quantities are uploaded from PDMS to MARIAN with the first

(and subsequent) distribution of a checked isometric. This means that an MTO is always linked to:•  An (construction) Area (via the CWP number)

•  A Line-number 

When there is a change of line-number (e.g. due to a service change by Process, or due to a simple error), or when there is a change of the area (e.g. due to a relocation of the piping system or a Plotplan change), the relatedmaterials in MARIAN also must be changed.

This paragraph covers the following issues:

NOTE: No detailed instructions are specified, but only the problem areas are outlined. Each DEC has to definedetailed instructions in line with their local work-process. LGN will provide additional job-notes where deemednecessary at a later stage of the project.

Each DEC is also responsible to log all changes on a master-set PEFS in order to maintain an up-to-date file.

6.1 – Line number (and related isometrics) is deleted:

When a line (number) is no longer required (e.g. due to a process change), the related isometric(s) and materialsmust be deleted, the following attention points must be taken into account:

• If the Pipe (isometric) is not yet built in PDMS, or the LPA status is still open, the bulk MTO of that line number 

must be deleted. Use MTO Explorer to remove the materials for that particular line. See also par. 2 of  Attachment 1.

• If the pipe is already built in PDMS but the isometric is not yet distributed (i.e. status “Input Started”), also the

Pipe (isometric) and any related pipe support must be deleted in PDMS and PIAS (or status file).

• If the isometric has already been distributed or issued, then also the former recipients must be notified that the

isometric is cancelled, and all related documents in iDocs must also be cancelled. This can be achieved by aredistribution of the isometric (with a higher revision number) with the remark “LINE CANCELLED” clearlyindicated. In PIAS use Revision-indicator “Cancelled” (16) and Hold-code “isometric deleted” (*).LGN Piping Engineering shall be informed about the deletion of the line-number who shall, if applicable,remove the IDF file from PIPECON. For issued isometrics, the Construction or Sub-contractor must beimmediately informed in order to halt the (pre-) fabrication process, with a notification to the LGN PipingEngineer using the Piping MTO mailbox ([email protected])..

6.2 – Part of a piping system (and related isometrics) is deleted:

When one or more isometrics are to be deleted (i.e. not the entire line-number), because of a design simplification(e.g. a part of a line is no longer required and the related isometric(s) are to be deleted), then only the relevant

isometrics (and materials) are to be deleted following the guidelines of par. 6.1.

6.3 – Line-number is changed:

When a line-number has changed (e.g. due to a process change or to correct an error), the related pipingmaterials in MARIAN must also be ‘relocated’ (remember, the MTO is linked to the line-number and area).  Alsonote that a line-number change may also initiates a drawing-number change. The following attention points mustbe taken into account:

• If the Pipe (isometric) is not yet built in PDMS, or the LPA status is still open, the bulk MTO of the original line

number must be deleted and a new bulk MTO for the new line number added. Use MTO Explorer to relocatethe materials from one (old) line number to the other (new) line number. See also par. 2 of Attachment 1.

• If the Pipe is built in PDMS, the isometrics (line) must be immediately modified and in PIAS (or the Status file)

incorporating the correct line-number (and/or drawing number).

• If the isometric has also been distributed or issued, then also the former recipients must be notified about the

change. First re-distribute the isometric with the original line-number as being Cancelled (see par. 6.1).Clearly indicate that subject isometric will be superseded by the <new isometric>. Then rename the isometric(pipe) and re-distribute. Again, indicate that this isometric supersedes the <old isometric>.

• Notify the LGN Piping Engineer using the Piping MTO mailbox ([email protected]). 

6.4 – Area number is changed:

When the Area location is changed (e.g. due to a Plotplan change or to correct an error), the related pipingmaterials in MARIAN must also be ‘relocated’ (remember, the MTO is linked to the line-number and area).The attention points as described for a line-number change (par. 6.3) are to be followed, except “line-number”

must be replaced by “area-number”. In PDMS (and PIAS, or the status file) the correct Area (or CWP) code mustbe incorporated. Also notify the LGN Piping Engineer using the Piping MTO mailbox ([email protected]).

6.5 – Piping lay-out is changed:

When a line is to be modified or re-designed (e.g. due to a lay-out change, new vendor data, PEFS change, etc.),the impact on materials must be taken into account. Make note of the following considerations:

• Update MTO Explorer for open LPA isometrics in case of priority-1 materials or significant changes.

• For critical piping systems inform the Process Engineer and/or the Pipe Stress engineer for the impact. For 

significant modifications to the concept layout as prepared by LGN also consult with LGN Piping Design.

• If the related isometrics already have been distributed, update the design and highlight the changes, and re-

distribute as soon as possible. Alternatively inform the recipients that a (significant) change is in preparation.

• If the related isometrics already have been issued, then Construction and/or the Sub-contractor must be

immediately informed to halt the (pre-) fabrication process. See also par. 7 of Attachment 2 for details.

6.6. Split of isometric sheets:

Note that splitted isometrics always must be handled simultaneously (distribution/ issue). If an isometric with the

“B1” status splits during the preparation of the C1 distribution, both isometrics are to be distributed C1simultaneously.

6.7. New line-number is added:

If a new line-number (LPA) is to be added, the related LPA bulk materials is to be added to the bulk MTO via MTOExplorer (see attachment 1). If a new line is to be added late in the project (when PDMS has replaced MTO-Explorer for MTO updates), then the LGN Piping Engineer is to be informed using the Piping MTO mailbox([email protected]). Avoid distribution of isometrics without a bulk MTO in MARIAN.

6.8. Points Of Attention:

• REMINDER: once all isometrics of an LPA have been (checked and) distributed, the LPA is closed and newmaterial updates to MARIAN can only be handled via PDMS (and subsequent isometric distributions andmaterial uploads).

•  A closed LPA should remain closed. Never reset the LPA status from “closed” to “open”, as this may affect the

requisition quantities.

• Keep the PDMS model up-to-date with changes to isometrics of closed LPA’s, and immediately initiate the

isometric distribution (and material upload). This is the only way to maintain the piping bulk MTO (andsubsequent material requisitions) for closed LPA isometrics.

• Never release unfinished isometrics, as the missing piping components may be removed from the bulk MTO

when the MTO in MARIAN is overwritten (for a closed LPA).

• Beware of selecting piping components in the PDMS component choose-form. An accidental wrong choice

may result in unintentionally purchasing of the wrong component (and likely cancellation of the rightcomponent).

• Do not use “dummy” components when a certain piping commodity is (still) unavailable in the pipeclass.

These temporary components may unintentionally be purchased when materials are uploaded to MARIAN. If you need a piping component not available in the PDMS pipeclass, follow the Piping Component Requestprocedure

• Do not model unapproved changes, as the related materials may unintentionally be uploaded to MARIAN and

purchased.

• Ensure Tagnumbers in PDMS are correct and in the right format (e.g. for instrumentation, special piping

items). An input error can result in incorrect purchasing.

• Ensure the line-number- and area breaks of your isometrics matches the breaks on the PEFS. Remember an

LPA break is also an MTO break

• Be extremely careful when: changing line-numbers, deleting isometrics, copying lines, changing area

locations (e.g. due to equipment relocation to another area). All such changes affect the MTO and you musttake appropriate action to correctly implement the related material changes.

• Never re-use a deleted line-number.

• Use the PDMS forms, menus, macros etc. as instructed, and avoid the use of the PDMS command prompt.

Many forms and macros not only execute commands properly, but also set various attributes in thebackground of PDMS that are essential for correct handling of the materials. Only use the command promptto quickly move or rotate components, or for queries.

• Note that only piping isometrics ultimately reflect the right materials. Material requirements cannot be covere d

by notes, e-mails, letters, or otherwise, only by updating the isometrics.

• Check with your supervisor when things are not fully clear to you!

7 – LESSONS LEARNED

This paragraph highlights a number of examples of lessons learned from previous projects. These lessonslearned are presented here in order to prevent a repetition of such errors on the ECC project.

7.1 – Consistency errors:

Various problems have been experiences due to:• Line number changes without an MTO update

• Line numbers moved into another area without an MTO update

• Breaks between line numbers or areas changed without an MTO update

• Inconsistency in revision numbers between MARAN, PDMS, PIAS

• PEFS revisions incorporated in bulk MTO for closed LPA’s, but PDMS model not timely updated

• Incorrect LPA status due to too many/ too few

isometrics planned in PIAS

• Items selected in PDMS without a commodity

number from MARIAN

• Wrong component selected in PDMS (wrong

reducer or valve type)

Full understanding of the concept and adherence to theprocedures is therefore important.

7.2 – Splitting isometrics:

Sometimes an isometric requires splitting whenadditional information (e.g. supporting data) is added. Itis important to distribute both sheets simultaneously asdescribed in par. 6.6.

Example:

DWG.1 of this simplified example (see below sketch) contains e.g. 2 valves and 4 elbows when the drawing wasdistributed B1. These materials are uploaded to MARIAN.

 Adding the pipe support data initiated an isometric split.If only SHT.1 is distributed as rev. C1 (including the upload of materials to MARIAN) without distributing SHT.2,the material upload will just contain 1 valve and 2 elbows. This means that the other valve and 2 elbows areremoved from the MTO (and possibly from a supplement requisition). Hence a distribution of both sheets (plus the

related materials upload) must take place.

7.3 – Combining line numbers:

When combining line numbers on one isometric (e.g. for practical reasons), the impact on materials must be fullyunderstood. Only one line-number can be put on an isometric. If two line-numbers are to be combined on oneisometric, the result will be that one line number will have to be cancelled and the related piping added to theother line number. This must also be established In MARIAN:

Example:

When P100 and P200 are combined on one isometric as P100, thematerials in MARIAN related to P200 are to be relocated to P100.  NoNtify the LGN Piping Engineer using the Piping MTO mailbox([email protected]).

Important: Also, such a change must be discussed with Process first, beforeimplementation, as it will also affect the PEFS, line schedules, etc.

7.4 – Holds on isometric:

When a hold cannot be quickly resolved, the impact of an open LPA must be considered. Example: A 36” compressor line has been studied and materials implemented in the bulk MTO. We are in the isometric

production phase. Five of the six isometrics of this line has been distributed to the Pipe Stress Engineer (rev. B1)

and the materials uploaded to MARIAN. The sixth isometric however is on hold for a good reason, and not yet

distributed. The LPA status remains open. The other isometrics are handled by the Pipe Stress Engineer and an

expansion loop has been added calling for 4 additional 36” elbows.

 As long as the final (sixth) isometric is NOT distributed B1, the original bulk materials will be used for 

requisitioning and the 4 extra elbows will NOT be purchased (risking late material delivery problems for these

additional elbows!!!).

There are two ways too prevent this:

Ensure the sixth sheet gets distributed, using the materials as originally included in the bulk MTO (adding a note

HOLD FOR….), in other words close the LPA.

Ensure the additional 36” elbows are added to the bulk MTO by informing the MTO engineer of this material

addition (for ECC via MTO Explorer, see par. 2 of Attachment 1).

Note that material types in the Bulk MTO are largely based onthe PEFS.The bulk MTO based on the PEFS in this example would

result in a 16” branch and a 20”x18” reducer.The actual layout however requires a 18” branch and a20”x16” reducer.

Obviously such significant deviations are to be reported (i.e.change the bulk MTO) as soon as they become apparent.

Notes:

• Line-number breaks are very important as it also serves as a MTO break. Remember, all MTO’s are prepared

per line-number per area. Area breaks are shown on the PEFS.

•  All breaks at branches occur at the branch-fitting (see picture A and/or D).

• If a branch valve is to be located minimum to the header, the first flange will be part of the header MTO (see

picture B). Note that gaskets always are to be selected with the valve.

• If a branch valve is to be located minimum to the header, and this valve also serves as a material break, then

the first flange and valve (plus both gaskets) will be part of the header MTO (see picture C).
