The Gold Wing Road Riders Association (GWRRA) is the world’s largest single-marquee social organization for owners and riders of Honda Gold Wing/Valkyrie motorcycles as well as any other motorcycles, and some would say, the world’s largest family. Dedicated to our motto, Friends for Fun, Safety and Knowledge, GWRRA members enjoy the freedom of belonging to a not-for-profit, non-religious and non-political organization.Founded in 1977, GWRRA has grown to more than 72,000 U.S., Canadian and International Members in 53 foreign countries in just 35 years. Over 800 active Chapters are managed by 4,000 volunteer leaders working with members to foster safe, enjoyable riding while also working to improve the public image of motorcycling.

Summer is almost gone; the riding season will soon end. COVID sure has put a damper on GWRRA activities. We have managed as a chapter to keep on “trucking” or more appropriately, keep on riding despite the setbacks, going on some beautiful dinner and Saturday rides. We played a round of 18 hole putt putt golf this past August. We had a beautiful sunny but sizzling hot day. We almost melted in the heat but
were able to survive by eating some cold tasty ice cream at the golf center afterwards. I am thinking about a rematch before the season ends so some people can redeem themselves. We will see. Keep the idea in the back of your mind.
Our chapter has been participating in the 2020 NY Ride contest. Mark has done a wonderful job in leading us to spots on the list, taking pictures and then submitting them. Great job Mark.
Arlene and Roger traveled over 300 miles one-way to secure the traveling plaque this past August. Great Job! Arlene, along with her friend Jeanne Christopherson, has made a beautiful new bag to keep the plaque safe as it makes its way from chapter to chapter.
Chapter U has not missed one chapter meeting so far this year! Way to go members in helping support your chapter. Regular meetings will resume September 13 at the Belle-View. They will be able to seat up to 24 people in their dining area within the new COVID guidelines. Members who were not able to do Zoom WILL be able to attend a regular sit down meeting now.

ARC-R & TRC-R Classes ScheduledWell, as the riding season has gone this summer, we have
had some of the best weather in years. Too bad we have all been told to stay home and keep six feet away from everybody. It’s kind of like being in a candy store and all the goodies are locked away where you can’t get to them. But, on the plus side, we can now schedule education events as long as we use a healthy dose of common sense. One of the needs of our membership is for Riding Classes to maintain their levels. OK, here is your big chance. The District has scheduled an ARC-R and TRC-R for those who need it to bring them current. Both of these classes are refreshers. This
means that there will be no classroom, only working on riding skills on the range. Because this is outdoors, members will have plenty of room to social distance. We strongly suggest wearing a mask and as stated use some good old fashioned common sense. Both of these events will happen on the weekend of Sept. 12 & 13. Below is the breakdown.
Sept. 12th ARC-R Sept. 13th TRC-R
Time: 8am-2pm Time: 8am-2pm
Location: 150 Genesee St, Chittenango, NY 13037
Chittenango High School
Contact: Rick Reardon (315) 382-8302 or [email protected]
The cost is only $20.00. These funds go to help cover Rider Ed expenses.
Please review the attached flyers for all the details like, who do I sign up with, who do I make the check out to. Our hope is that both of these classes will max out and as always if you have questions, call me.

From Ride Coordinator
Mark PetersonFor those folks who are not facebook savy, here are a few pictures I've
posted on Goldwings Ride New York. With the exception of Don and Marie Roberts of Chapter Y , no one and I mean no one is adding to this facebook. How many chapters in NY state? As far as the group certificate goes, we got this in the bag.Looks to me like nobody is doing nothin!A couple of good notes.
We did have a beautiful dinner ride on the 19th. Paul and Maleia led us through Allegheny State Park to the Willows restaurant near Bradford, PA. Twelve of us braved the deer, turkeys, and Covid for a great meal. My chicken wings were top notch. On a sour note, Roger and Arlene, drove their car there and it would not start at the end of the evening. Stuff happens, eh? They got home ok a little later than the rest of us but they made it.
Saturday’s ride (29th) has been CANCELLED due to rainy weather. Next ride I’m leading is Satrday 9/5. We’ll head east to Cattaragus county
for something a little different. Pictures to include a casino, state park, Indian museum. Has anybody not been to Griffis Park? That could be a fun place to check out. Will be doing some research soon.Until then ride on and this plandemic won't last for ever. Also, if you go somewhere that meets the rules for Goldwings Ride New York take a picture on your phone and email to me. We don't have to be in a group, it
can be one or two persons. Mark

Experiencing Motorcycle Riding
from a co-rider’s viewpoint
As many of you know, I ride on the back of a very aggressive driver, namely my husband and best friend Roger Connelly. To say it has been interesting is probably an understatement but in his defense, it is never boring and he is good at dodging raindrops. During the last month as Chapters start to open up and hold their first person-to-person meetings, Roger and I have traveled to a few Chapter meetings. It has been good to see old friends and also meet some new ones. As always, I say, “Membership makes us strong.” In visiting other Chapters, I have gotten a few new ideas of how to recruit which I won’t go into now.
On to our visits. We put a lot of miles under our butts. Let me say that we never take a direct route but always a scenic one with lots of curves and bumps. Even though we have the “super” suspension, I still find myself yipping over some of the potholes that can’t be avoided. I’m pretty sure that riding on the back is a whole lot different than from the driver’s seat. I have to give Roger a squeeze every now and then and might scream, “We are going to die.” Fortunately, we haven’t done that yet, however!? Enough said.
We have come very close to hitting wildlife of all types. A turkey even hit my helmet shield and cracked it. That was too much fun. (NOT) In any event, as a co-rider, I try to keep my eyes peeled and help my driver. Of course, he doesn’t think he needs help and in most cases, he doesn’t.
Coming home on Saturday early evening after having joined Chapter T for breakfast, the sky is getting dark, we are about an hour and half from home, and I don’t have my rain gear on. Of course, we are both hoping that we won’t need to stop and put it on. Roger’s theory is to try and out run or skirt around the storms. And, of course, my theory is to stop and wait it out. In this case, we managed to avoid the storm but we were on some roads I wasn’t sure were really roads. Roger’s response is “Hang on, we’re going for a ride!” If you see a black cloud, you turn and go the other way even if it takes you away from home. Avoid the storm at all cost!
In all reality, we have had some delightful rides on roads I never knew exhisted. If you are a co-rider, you need to have trust and faith in your driver and of course, pray before you start a ride and we really know who is in charge.
All the gear, all the time, and be safe.
Recruit, recruit, recruit. Let’s go Chapter U!
