The Golden Values School (GVS)
celebrated its 35th Founding anni-
versary last February 1, 2014 with
the theme: “Dream Big. Fly High,
GVS at 35!” at Amphi Theater,
Barrio Kapitolyo, Pasig City.
The commemoration started
with the thanksgiving mass, followed
by a parade around the covered court
grounds. The program was spear-
headed by the founders, Mr. Bob and
Emmy Garon as well as Mrs.
Vanessa Garon Vandevoort, direc-
tress of GVS. Mr. Garon expresses
his sincere gratitude to the loyal par-
ents of GVS, “I want to thank the
parents. Without you, there is no
GVS.”

the recognition and awarding of the
Inter-Quiz Bee winners which was
conducted last January 31, 2014 at
Multipurpose Hall, Brgy. Kapitolyo,
Moreover, the GVSians in all
branches of GVS such as Makati,
Pasig, Novaliches and Parañaque
showcased their colourful props and
lively dance performances. The joy
of both the founders, were evident in
their faces. The teachers were also
not exempted. They danced to the
groove of presentation.

ball, balloon relay, 25 meter dash,
sack race, pabitin, palayok, and tug

GVS holds Battle of
the Brains By: Syne R. Mirasol
GVS holds an Inter-GVS Quiz Bee
competition spearheaded by Mrs.
Vanessa Garon Vandevoort, GVS
Directress. Every year, to give our
students an inter school experience,
all schools came together to battle it
out . To make the said activity objec-
tive and transparent, the event organ-
izers invited parents to act as the
judges namely Mrs. Gisella De Villa,
Mrs. Dolores Masangue and Mrs.
Jocelyn Villones. The questions for
the inter-quiz bee were composed of
five (5) areas: Science, Math, Civics,
General information and Current
Events with the newly added area,
GVS information.
It was a successful event and each
GVsian student showed true sports-
manship. The winners are as fol-

Like some other passionate
teachers out there, a GVS teacher
lets a child know that they can do
beyond their capability. Thus, al-

letting the child feel that he’s val-
ued and loved. That he has to be-
lieve in himself. Though the proc-
ess is painfully slow at times, a
GVSian teacher patiently under-
stands that each child is a work
in progress. That she must focus
on strengths as well as on the
child needs to improve on.
She also chooses to be a
friend during snacks time and
chat with her students during
vacant time. She offers herself to
be a playmate during playtime.
She would rather be a sister who
will watch over
her kids in every
move inside and
outside the class-
room… And
most of all , she
assumes the role
of a parent who
pampers and
dresses her chil-
dren ending
class.

Being a GVS teacher, first
and foremost, requires creativity,
dedication and passion before she
starts everything. It can be largely
demanding in the part of a fresh
college graduate coming from a
certain province. However, a
kind of person who possesses
the will to make everything hap-
pen and achieve her goal- to
make a difference in her chil-
dren.
A GVS teacher first
creatively creates a classroom
where the child can feel safe and
at home in school. Where he or
she will not hesitate nor feel
afraid to always try…and where
kindness is always the rule of thumb.
She makes every child dis-
cover the joy that comes in each
learning activity she prepares the

GVSians appreciate the
wonders of science
By: Maryjune Jardeleza
The GVSians’ most awaited trip took place last
February 19, 2014. They visited the Avilon Zoo at
Montalban, Rizal and the NIDO Science Discovery
Center at Mall of Asia.
Over 3, 000 animals and 600 species were
seen by GVSians at the Avilon Zoo. Moreover,
around four hundred (400) exhibits through nine
(9) walk in galleries including the advanced
planetarium, featured in the NIDO Science Dis-
covery Center was explored by. Please see at-
tached photos on page 4.

Taekwondo when I was 4
years old. It has always been my
weekend activity. I tried a lot of
sports and are still into it, but I
just kept on going back to Taek-
wondo.
When people ask me why I
am into Taekwondo, my answer
would always be…"Taekwondo
helps me be humble, disciplined,
focused, confident and responsible.
During a tournament, when I
win I am aware it is because I
worked hard for it. While losing
gives me a chance to do better next
time. I learned to take defeat with-
out shame or regret. It made me
realize that I am not the best be-
cause others may be better.
In Taekwondo, training is
important, that is
why I make it a
point to train
every week and to
practice very
well . Being fo-
cused is very important to do the
right moves at the right time.
Since Taekwondo is also
about self-defense , the sport
helped me be confident and re-
sponsible. I do not use my skill to
be boastful but rather I use it to
influence others in learning how to
defend themselves in case it is
needed.
Performing in front of many
people during a tournament is
great experience. Being promoted
to a higher belt is always a
memorable event and I am look-
ing forward and working hard to
wearing the black belt in time.
I am very grateful for the
skill that God has given to me and
I will try best to influence others
in a positive way.

top priority. A GVSian teacher will hear words like “I can’t.”, in response she’ll say “YOU CAN!” or “I don’t
know how?” she’ll reply “Come here, I’LL TEACH YOU HOW…” A GVS teacher will try everything and do
whatever it takes- to encourage, motivate, engage, challenge, inspire and instill love for learning… In the heart
of every GVS teacher is to enable the child to become much more than he, what he thinks he is capable of.
This is GVS teacher at heart.
