Endpoint Video conferencing codec unit, Camera, Microphone, Speaker, Video display.

Multipoint Control Unit (MCU)

A device commonly used to bridge video conferencing connections. It provides the capability for three or more endpoints to participate in a multipoint conference.

Conference Server Provides call control and services.

Network ConnectionThe connection that carries data between video systems communicating with each other. The connection capability determines video performance and quality of service.

Video Capabilities – Lens and Sensor

• 12 x Optical Zoom

Optical Zoom Digital Zoom

Optical zoom gets up close using an actual lens adjustment.

It changes the magnification of images with the actual optical glass before the images reach the imaging sensor.

By moving the lens farther from the image sensor, the zoom increases because a smaller portion of the scene strikes the image sensor, resulting in magnification.

Digital zoom is a technology where the camera shoots the photo and then crops and magnifies it to create an artificial close-up photo.

This process requires magnifying or removing individual pixels, which can cause image quality degradation.

Video Capabilities – Lens and Sensor

• A pan–tilt–zoom camera (PTZ camera) is a camera that is capable of remote directional and zoom control

• +/-23° tilt, +/-90° pan, 70°(W)* - 6.3° (T) field of view

Video Capabilities – Image Signal Processing

• Auto Focus

- Automatically focus on a manually selected area.

- Ensures consistently sharp video whenever the camera is adjusted, preset is applied or the device is rebooted.

Page 10: GVC3200 Video Conferencing System. Video Conferencing System Video Capabilities Network Conditions and Requirement Content Sharing Deployment

Video Capabilities – Image Signal Processing

• Auto White Balance

- Images in different sources of light have different “color temperature”. The images might comes out with an orange, blue, yellow etc look – despite the fact that to the naked eye the scene looks quite normal.

- White balance (WB) is the process of removing unrealistic color casts, so that objects which appear white in person are rendered white in your photo.

Page 11: GVC3200 Video Conferencing System. Video Conferencing System Video Capabilities Network Conditions and Requirement Content Sharing Deployment

Video Capabilities – Image Signal Processing

Recommended color temperature for conference room is 3,000-3,800K

- The color temperature of the electromagnetic radiation emitted from an ideal black body is defined as its surface temperature in Kelvin (K).

Page 12: GVC3200 Video Conferencing System. Video Conferencing System Video Capabilities Network Conditions and Requirement Content Sharing Deployment

Video Capabilities – Image Signal Processing

• Auto Exposure - Control exposure without user having to make individual settings for each exposure reading or change in scene luminance.

- Characterize brightness: Luminance.

Most offices: 250 – 500 lux

Offices that involve drawing or other detail work: 750 – 1,000 lux

Recommended luminance for conference room is 500-700 lux.

Page 13: GVC3200 Video Conferencing System. Video Conferencing System Video Capabilities Network Conditions and Requirement Content Sharing Deployment

Video Capabilities – Image Signal Processing

• Noise Reduction- Image noise is random (not present in the object imaged) variation of brightness or color information in images, and is usually an aspect of electronic noise.

Video Capabilities – Encoding

High compression performance compared with H.263. Less bandwidth is required to deliver same quality video.

Baseline ProfilePrimarily for low-cost applications that require additional data loss robustness, this profile is used in some video conferencing and mobile applications. This is the default setting in GVC3200.

Main Profile This profile is used for standard-definition digital TV broadcasts that use the MPEG-4 format as defined in the DVB standard.

High ProfileThe primary profile for broadcast and disc storage applications, particularly for high-definition television applications (for example, this is the profile adopted by the Blu-ray Disc storage format and the DVB HDTV broadcast service).

• H.264 BP/MP/HP

Page 15: GVC3200 Video Conferencing System. Video Conferencing System Video Capabilities Network Conditions and Requirement Content Sharing Deployment

Video Capabilities – MCU

• MCU: Multipoint Control Unit - When three or more end-points (participants, remote sites, etc) need to connect, a video conference "bridge" – MCU, must be used. - Two logical components:

1. A single Multipoint Controller (MC) 2. Multipoint Processors (MP).

Page 16: GVC3200 Video Conferencing System. Video Conferencing System Video Capabilities Network Conditions and Requirement Content Sharing Deployment

Video Capabilities – MCU

• MC: Multipoint Controller

- Manages conferencing creation, endpoint signaling and in-conference controls. - Negotiates parameters with every endpoint in the network and control conferencing resources.

Page 17: GVC3200 Video Conferencing System. Video Conferencing System Video Capabilities Network Conditions and Requirement Content Sharing Deployment

Video Capabilities – MCU

• MP: Multipoint Processor

- While the MC controls resources and signaling negotiations, the MP operates on the media plane and receives media from each endpoint.

- The MP generates output streams from each endpoint and redirects the information to other endpoints in the conference.

Video Capabilities – Resolution

• Resolution The amount of pixels per square inch

• High Definition - 1080p: 1920 width x 1080 height = 2073600 pixels - 720p: 1280 width x 720 height = 921600 pixels

• Other resolutions supported on GVC3200 - 4CIF (704 x 576) - 4SIF (704 x 480) - VGA (640 x 480)

Video Capabilities – Frame Rate

• Frame Rate

- Frame: the frequency at which an imaging device produces unique consecutive images.

- Frame rate: frames per second (FPS), also expressed in Hz.

- The higher the frame rate is, the smoother the video is. Meanwhile, more pixels are transferred per second. Thus higher bandwidth is required.

Network Conditions and Requirement

• Network Congestion causes packet loss.

• Video quality is degraded when there is packet loss.

• How to prevent network congestion: - VLAN Broadcast Control: VLAN reduces broadcast traffic as each broadcast will be sent on to the relevant VLAN.

- Layer 3 QoS QoS for RTP: 48 QoS for SIP: 24

- Upgrade network service : get higher bandwidth

Page 27: GVC3200 Video Conferencing System. Video Conferencing System Video Capabilities Network Conditions and Requirement Content Sharing Deployment

Network Conditions and Requirement

• FEC for packet loss concealment - The sender encodes the message in a redundant way by using an error-correcting code.

- The redundancy allows the receiver to detect a limited number of errors and correct these errors without retransmission.

Page 28: GVC3200 Video Conferencing System. Video Conferencing System Video Capabilities Network Conditions and Requirement Content Sharing Deployment

Network Conditions and Requirement

• Bit rate The number of bits that are conveyed or processed per unit of time.

• With the same resolution, if higher video bit rate is used, less compression is needed. Thus video quality is better.

• Adjust the video bit rate based on the network environment

- Increasing the video bit rate may improve video quality if the bandwidth is permitted.

- If the bandwidth is not permitted, the video quality will decrease due to packet loss.
