NEW TO THE VILLAGE

Moo Music is a fun and interactive weekly music session for 0 to 5 year old

children and their parents, grandparents or carers, where the children sing,

dance, play, learn and have fun while doing it. Music is an essential part of

every child’s development and the 100+ original Moo Music songs used at the

sessions are positive, uplifting, fun and educational. The interactive

sessions will help your child gain confidence and develop memory, language

and coordination skills in an exciting, enjoyable and multi-sensory way.

Classes are held in Barnburgh Church Hall on Tuesday mornings and split

into three sessions: 9.15am to 9.55am (mixed), 10.10am to 10.50am (babies),

and 11.05am to 11.45am (mixed).

Book your Moosical fun at: moo-music.co.uk/doncaster or contact us via

Facebook @MooMusicDoncaster or give us a ring on 07713312757.

Good news!!! The New Surgery based on Adwick Road, Mexborough will be taking over Barnburgh Surgery. This will commence on Wednesday 9

th May,

when Dr. Wagstaff leaves. There will be a Contact Practitioner and a new Practice Nurse who will be working at the Surgery alongside the GP. The Parish Council on behalf of the residents would like to thank Dr. Wagstaff for her service to the village over the years and wish her well in the future. Also, the villages have had two defibrillators installed for public use, located in the Village Hall porch and outside the Village Store. 30,000 people a year suffer a cardiac arrest and public access to defibrillators could save many, many lives.

Refreshments include hot dogs, donuts and waffles so bring the family for some seaside

fun! Pebble painting will be judged at the end of the event. There will be a small entrance

fee and proceeds will be split between Barnburgh School and the Parent & Toddler

Group. Watch out for posters around the village. See you on the day!

The new weekly session (7.15pm - 8.15pm on Sundays, starting 3rd June in the Village Hall) is for adults who are looking to explore mindfulness as part of their daily living. This can be to improve balance in life, cope with stress, improve self awareness or to simply explore a more peaceful and compassionate way of being. Each week, a different aspect of mindfulness will be explored; there will be a guided meditation plus support for you to establish your personal practice. Sessions will be lead by Dave Camm, who draws on his experience as a Coach, Pilates Instructor, Sports Therapist and his own journey with mindfulness over the last 15 years, to provide a holistic approach covering mind, body and soul. Sessions are non-religious, non-striving and non-judgemental and are open to anyone over the age of 18 years old. Classes are structured in eight week blocks that progress in content and depth. The cost of each eight week block is £40. Class size will be limited, with spaces reserved on payment on a first come, first serve basis. To reserve your place, or if you have any questions, please call/text on 07776 194524 or drop me an email at [email protected].

Barnburgh Brownies have been

community advocates this term,

joining in with the village litter

pick and creating the most

stunning banners for Tour de Yorkshire! The girls have really enjoyed the opportunity

to give something back and for being recognised for the time they give.

Aside from this we've been returning to our roots and learning traditional games such as

marbles and chalk art on pavements. When working towards their art badge, the girls

fully embraced colour experimentation - mixing shaving foam and dye with their feet,

creating rainbows with hand paint and even colouring mouldable soap. The

highlight of the season has definitely been our 'Evening Expedition' to Yorkshire

Wildlife Park where we got a personalised guided tour learning more about our

endangered animals and the breeding programmes to help combat this.

It is very sad news that this summer we lose two of our amazing Brownie assistants as

they move away to university. We wish them every success and happiness for their

studies - Olivia Dawson and Chloe Purcell have been part of our Guiding family since

they joined us at age 7! To say they'll be missed is an understatement to say the least.

These girls have given so many hours, tied so many shoe laces, washed hundreds of

paintbrushes, dabbed many a grazed knee and swept up tons of glitter - all for the young

girls of our village so they have the chance to have fun, learn new skills and make new

friends.

From September we'll have several new vacancies at Brownies, so if you have a

daughter aged 7-10 years old, or you are interested in becoming a volunteer, register

your interest at www.girlguiding.org.uk.

Yorkshire's Grand Depart in 2014 was

described by the Tour de France Race

Director as the grandest in the 111

year history of the event. Two and a

half million people lined the route.

The legacy of this spectacular success

was the birth of the Tour de Yorkshire.

The first Tour de Yorkshire was held in

May 2015 and since then it has become an

annual May event. For the first three

years, the ladies' race was a one day event

and the men's a three but in 2018, they

were both extended by one day. The

financial benefits to the Yorkshire

economy were £50m in 2015, £60m is

2016 and £65m is 2017. It is envisaged

that 2018 will top the lot.

The Tour de Yorkshire first visited Barnburgh and

Harlington in 2016. It was enthusiastically supported

and both villages were festooned in the traditional blue

and yellow bunting, pompoms and bikes. Crowds were

huge.

This year's race passed through our villages on 4th May

and again the welcome bordered on the ecstatic. In

glorious, sunny weather, crowds of eager onlookers of

all ages thronged the pavements of Furlong Road,

Hollowgate, Church Lane, High Street and Hickleton

Road. Again the blue and yellow was strikingly evident,

supported by a spectacular 'WELCOME TO

BARNBURGH' banner on Ivy Farm barn.

Delicious refreshments were available in the

Church Hall, the Harlington Inn put on a

magnificent Hog Roast with entertainment

and the newly opened Village Shop in

Harlington did flourishing business.

This was a brilliant and memorable day for

our community - so good to see smiles on so

many faces!

In the last Grapevine, we delivered the fantastic news that the building of a proposed bio-fertiliser lagoon between Barnburgh and High Melton has been overturned through the huge efforts of the group ‘Villages Against High Melton Bio-Fertiliser Lagoon’ and local residents in a long battle with DMBC planning department. Around a thousand objections were received with concerns about odour, pollution, health and safety and public safety on the bridleway that huge tankers would be using to transport thousands of litres of foul smelling liquid food waste to spread on the fields.

It was to be a short lived victory as the farmer and his team have now applied for a ‘Permitted Lawful Development Certificate’. If this is granted by Doncaster Planning, no planning approval is needed! The Planning Committee can play no part in this procedure so cannot vote, for or against it. More funds have been raised by the group, this time to appoint a Planning Barrister to give an opinion on the content of the application.

Watch out for further updates in future Grapevine editions. If you wish to complain about the foul stench emanating from the fields surrounding High Melton, please notify Doncaster Council’s Environmental Health Team on 01302 737573; the liquid food waste is being spread at the moment despite not currently having the storage lagoon. Also visit @Villages Against High Melton Bio-Fertilizer Lagoon on Facebook for developments and to discuss your concerns.

Please bring your named entry/entries to the Village Show Tent by 12pm on Carnival Day. Judging begins at 1pm prompt. Any entries not received by 12pm will not be eligible.

FEES:

Children: 50p per entry - Adults: £1 per entry

Entries to be collected after 3pm please.

We have a Facebook page @Barnburgh & Harlington Village Carnival for more information or if you need to make any enquiries.

Thank you. We look forward to seeing you on the day!

Many of you will know that we have been trying to

get a water supply into Barnburgh Church for a number of

years. Thanks to the community we are a little nearer - thanks

to your help! Recently, a number of you responded to a plea

for support to the project - a huge ‘thank you’ to all who

filled in a short form, wrote a supporting letter or ‘liked’

the post on the community Facebook page. Support from

the community has enabled us to access a grant towards

the first stage of getting facilities to the church boundary.

We expect water and sewerage connections to be in place by the time you read this

article. The second stage is to provide a toilet and small ‘kitchenette’ inside church as

well as sorting out the heating system. All will be done sensitively in keeping with the

building, according to regulations and restrictions for historic churches. The plans will be

available for anyone to inspect and comment on when we get to that stage.

Churches are community buildings and over the centuries have adapted to the needs of

the communities they serve. I hope you would all agree that access to water and

toilet facilities is essential. It is almost unheard of in the 21st century for a public building

to have no access to water. Apart from Sunday worship, the church is used for weddings,

baptisms, funerals and concerts as well as visits from Barnburgh School, community

groups and visitors to the area.

The ability to demonstrate public support gives us a greater probability of accessing

further grants for stage 2 - which is the expensive stage! If you haven’t already done so

and are able to offer your support, simply fill in the short form on p15; we would be very

grateful. Barnburgh Church has stood at the heart of the community for many hundreds of

years and we want to ensure that it remains here for future generations. Please return

completed forms to Kathryn (1 Fitzwilliam Drive), or any member of Barnburgh Church.

Who would think that a toilet could be so exciting!? We are excited that this may be a

possibility in the fairly near future. Thank you for your support.

Revd Canon Kathryn Herrod

Please give your support if possible

If you think it is a good idea for the church to have water, toilet facilities and a

kitchenette, we would appreciate you filling in the form below, in order for us

to apply for funding.

More information will be available to the public in due course,

but if you would like to know more about the plans, do contact either:

Revd Canon Kathryn Herrod 01709 898538 - [email protected]

or Barbara Rutter: 01709 897445 - [email protected]

We are not asking for money, but if you wish to make a personal donation, we

would very much welcome that (please use the contact details above for details on

how to give. Cheques made payable to St Peter’s Church, Barnburgh).

Please note that we will not use your personal information for any purpose other

than for demonstrating to grant agencies your support for our project.

Thank you for your support!

Kathryn Herrod (Priest in Charge) Barbara Rutter & Julia Bullars (Churchwardens)

I support the plans to provide water to Barnburgh Church and in due course

to build a toilet and kitchenette to support the work of the church.

Please state below why you think this project is necessary or a good idea:

It’s been busy yet again on the Parish Council in the last few months! Matters on the

Agenda since the last Grapevine edition include:

Cemetery services and costs

Considering planning matters

Recreation ground

New data protection regulations (GDPR)

Village bench and telephone box restoration/considering funding options

School Bus Route: A resident reported that the school bus was using Church Lane as a

route. The Parish Council has confirmed the route of the bus through a freedom of

information request. Information has been added to social media for residents to raise

concerns about the bus using Church Lane. There have been many photos/videos added of

the bus mounting the kerb near where the children have been going into school. The

Parish Council will continue to follow up this matter. If you wish to make a complaint

about the bus route please forward your concerns to the email address below.

Defibrillator: The Parish Council have been working closely with others in the

community to purchase and install two defibrillators; one in the Village Hall porch,

Barnburgh and one on the wall adjacent to the shop in Harlington. These are now up and

running. A big thank you to all involved including Barnburgh Primary School, the Village

Hall, Weldricks and many other residents who kindly donated funds. We had an official

opening with some of the children from school; they have been learning all about

defibrillators and how they work.

Recreation Ground: Further signage has been added to the recreation ground entrance to

welcome users to the area.

New Website: The Parish Council have created a new website to add all the documents

required, to ensure we meet the Government’s transparency code. The new address is:

www.mybarnburghandharlington.co.uk. There is still some information to be added but

this site will give lot of information about the Parish Council - the work we do and the

services we offer. We will also add information relating to the Parish Council on the

Barnburgh and Harlington Facebook page @barnburghandharlington.

Tour de Yorkshire: We are very lucky to have the TdY come through our Parish again.

There has been lots of hard work to prepare the village for the event, with grass cutting

flowers, bunting and banners, and not forgetting the yellow bikes. The volunteers on the

day used the Village Hall as a base for the event. See page 10 for a report and photos!

Parish Council meetings are held on the second Wednesday of the month in the

Village Hall at 7pm. Residents are welcome to attend to discuss Agenda items in the

public consultation.

Unfortunately the adverse conditions at the beginning of March led to

the cancellation of the Women’s World Day of Prayer service and also

our coffee morning for Make A Mothers Day. However, we were able to

re book and held the coffee morning on 21st April and managed to make

over £200 for the Make A Mothers Day Appeal which will be very gratefully received. A

big thank you to all who helped and also everyone who came and supported us. Our

regular meetings all went ahead; we had guests who spoke about varied subjects

including ‘All the Little Things’ and the History of Afternoon Tea. We also had a treat

for our members when our committee ladies served afternoon tea to everyone. This

proved very popular so we may repeat it! We are looking forward to our May Lunch
