The GUMURRII Student Support Unit (SSU) is the heart of Griffith’s Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander community and is located on all five campuses. GUMURRII SSU is a dedicated support unit for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students enrolled at Griffith University. Our staff assist students from recruitment and orientation to graduation, providing undergraduate and postgraduate support, including tutorial assistance, in a safe and culturally appropriate learning environment. Support services and programs

Mission statement

GUMURRII Student Support Unit (SSU) is dedicated to providing high quality support to Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students studying at Griffith.

GUMURRII SSU provides higher education pathways for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students in a safe and culturally appropriate learning environment.

On-campus study space

GUMURRII SSU has a student support unit on each of Griffith’s five campuses with security card access for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students. GUMURRII SSU also provides various resources including access to computers, printing, study rooms and support from Learning Assistance Officers.

Direct Entry Program

The GUMURRII Student Support Unit conducts the Direct Entry Program designed for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people seeking to undertake tertiary studies at Griffith.

Through the Direct Entry Program, potential students speak directly with GUMURRII SSU staff regarding study pathways and courses offered at Griffith.

The program enables applicants to be assessed on any formal qualifications, life experiences, work history and other transferable skills that support an enrolment application.

Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tutorial Assistance Program (ATSITAP)

The Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Tutorial Assistance Program (ATSITAP) is an initiative that aims to improve educational outcomes for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander students at Griffith.

The funding covers the cost of providing supplementary tuition to eligible students who require additional academic support. To register for ATSITAP visit app.secure.griffith.edu.au/gumurrii

Scholarships

Griffith and its partners provide more than $40 million annually, to support students as they complete their degrees. Over 600 scholarships are available to new and continuing students whose success at University would benefit from direct financial support.

Indigenous Research Unit (IRU)

The IRU is an advocate for Indigenous appropriate approaches to research, and promote the interests of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples, academics, post-graduate and Higher Degree Research (HDR) students at Griffith.
