Ahoy, Buccaneers!
As we sail toward the end of 4th quarter, I want to encourage all of our students to stay focused and mo;vated as they work to the best of their abili;es in comple;ng their courses for the 2010-‐2011 school year. We have concluded our FCAT tes;ng, and we are now embarking on a busy May schedule of tes;ng. CORE tes;ng in math and science, AP and IB exams, end of course exams, and semester exams will all be administered in May. We received some incredible news this month from the Navy. Our NJROTC Unit has "three-‐peated!" We are the Na;onal Academic Champions for a 3rd straight year. We are so proud of our Unit! Also, many of our seniors are repor;ng to us
about their college acceptances and many have earned scholarships for academics and athle;cs. Great job! As we approach the end of the year, it is very important to review the school's website regularly to stay abreast of ac;vi;es and ceremonies planned for our students. In closing, I challenge each one of you to close out the school year by being on ;me, aWending all of your classes, avoiding disciplinary referrals, and working up to your poten;al. Do your best each day and take pride in being a buccaneer!

Gulf High School’s Extended Day program celebrated their final Buddy Reading with approximately 100 students from Marlowe Elementary. Gulf High School Students walked to Marlowe Elementary School chaperoned by Dr. Knobl (dressed as a cowboy), Ms. Mudry, Coach Carter, and Ms. St. John. Our students read out loud to whole classes and small groups to six elementary classes. The story book was en;tled, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble. Once our high school students finished the story they walked the elementary students outside to pet real live Miniature Donkeys. A special thank you to Brayfields Miniature Donkeys for volunteering their ;me and transforming “Literacy to Life.”

All students must have a medica;on form signed by both the parent and doctor in order to carry any emergency medica;ons. This includes asthma inhalers, epi-‐pens or diabe;c supplies. Forms are available in the clinic for those students who will need any emergency medica;on at the start of the school year. Forms will also be available at registra;on. Florida Statues are very specific. Medica;ons must be kept in the clinic unless your doctor signs the emergency medica;on form. Non-‐emergency medica;ons must be kept in the clinic. Any medica;ons found on a student without a signed form violates District School Board policy.

The Gulf High School NJROTC Unit has experienced its best year ever! Since the beginning of the second semester alone, the cadets have achieved a number of notable successes. The Academic Team made history by winning their third consecu;ve Na;onal Academic Championship which is sponsored by the Secretary of the Navy. This compe;;on included 1699 teams from the United States, Europe, Japan and Guam. The Na;onal Academic Exam included a myriad of ques;ons from material covered in the four-‐year curriculum of the Naval Science program, and more. Topics include, but are not limited to Social Studies/History, Science, Economics, Poli;cs, Government, Health and Nutri;on, Ceremonies and Drill, Leadership and Current Events.
