JASON VIEAUX AND AL-BUSTAN TAKHT ENSEMBLE American guitarist Jason Vieaux and Palestine-Israeli violinist Hanna Khoury’s Takht Ensemble bring Eastern and Western musical traditions together to create a bold, new direction in concert performance. In concerts featuring works for 2 to 5 instruments, including violin, classical guitar, oud, cello, and Arabic percussion, Khoury’s mastery of Middle Eastern musical forms and improvisation come together with Vieaux’s pop and jazz sensibilities as an arranger and improviser to create fresh textures and exciting new sounds. Their “Revisiting Hybridity” program, featuring works of Kinan Abou-afach, David Ludwig, Marcel Khalife and Astor Piazzolla, explores the many ways in which these seemingly contrasting styles share common ground.
