Continuing Education at Guilderland will offer on-line registration with credit card payments. On-line registration with a credit card is the fastest way to secure your spot in upcoming
classes.
Check payments may also be mailed in. Registration forms may be filled out, printed and mailed to us with a check payment. The
full brochure and registration forms will be posted to our website. For those without computer access, you may call and request a full copy of the brochure to be mailed. Brochures are
also available in your local library.
This will give everyone a welcomed option to register for our programs.
This is an ecological move as well, to help save our trees.

ELIGIBILITY REGISTRATION PROCEDURE
Courses are open to all persons in the Capital District Region age 16 and over unless otherwise stated.
You should consult your physician before participating in any dance or exercise program. Enrollment
priority is given to Guilderland Central School District residents. There are NO PHONE
REGISTRATIONS. To register: you can register online at https://guilderlandrevtrak.net or FOR
EACH REGISTRANT and EACH COURSE, fill out the enclosed registration form, enclose correct fee,
make separate checks FOR EACH COURSE payable to Guilderland CSD and send to:

CONFIRMATION OF CLASSES
CONFIRMATION of registration will NOT be sent to registrants. Please check our website for class
confirmation at www.guilderlandschools.org/continuinged. Only classes will be listed, NOT individual
registrants.
REFUND POLICY
Your continuing education program is a self-sustaining program with all expenses paid out of
registration fees. It is necessary to cancel a class if enrollment does not support the cost of the course
and checks will be returned. No refunds, therefore may be given after classes have started. If a
registrant cancels prior to the start of the first class, a refund, less a $10 cancellation fee, will be given.
No refunds will be given for one or two-night courses after registration closes. Please be advised that
refunds can take three to four weeks. No school credit is given for any course.
CLASS TONIGHT?
Whenever the district schools are closed due to inclement weather or for other emergency reasons,
classes will not meet that night. Announcements concerning closing of evening adult programs will be
broadcast over radio stations: WGY, WROW, WTRY. In addition, this information can be found on the
district website at www.guilderlandschools.org and the Public Access Channel 16.
SENIOR CITIZEN POLICY (Age 60 and over)
Seniors residing in the Guilderland CSD are permitted to enroll in most Continuing Education classes at
a 50% discount. Senior citizens should X the “YES” box next to “Senior Citizen” on the registration form.
Senior citizens WILL be required to pay the regular registration fee for courses if the fees are needed to
maintain self sufficiency.

A FLYOVER OF IMMIGRATION LAW
A fly-over of the various types of non-immigrant visas; the difference
between a green card and a visa; who is a non-immigrant, an
unlawful immigrant and an immigrant and their eligibility for a green
card; obtaining a green card through employment or family
connections; what a green card permits you to do; how to lose it and
renew it. No advice on individual cases.

BASKET WEAVING FOR ALL LEVELS
Basket makers of all levels are welcome. This is a good class if
you’re new to basket weaving, need a refresher course if it’s been a
while or just want a reason to weave again. New students will
complete 4 baskets while learning the basics of traditional basket
weaving. Basket making materials will be supplied by the instructor
for an additional fee. Materials fee for new students will be $40
payable to the instructor at the first session. Time permitting
additional baskets can be made on a cost per basket basis.
Returning weavers will continue with baskets of their choice.
Materials fee for returning students will be determined at the first
session. The following items will be needed at the first session: tub
for soaking reeds (at least 12” by 12” by 6” deep), old bath towel,
pencil, ruler, cloth tape measure, utility knife, awl or ice pick, kitchen
scissors, heavy duty spring type clothes pins, 4” cable ties, and
spray bottle.

BEGINNER BASICS
This class provides an introduction to the basic poses, asanas, of
yoga. Excellent for beginners with little or no yoga experience.
The focus will be on alignment and breath as you move your way
to a more supple, strengthened You! Atmosphere is light-
hearted and supportive. Please bring a notebook to class.

BEGINNER TO INTERMEDIATE GUITAR
This introductory course instructs beginning students with little to
no prior knowledge on how to play basic chords, techniques,
rhythm/strumming and timing. The goal is for students to be able
to play through a song by the end of the course. Please bring an
acoustic guitar, guitar pick, clip-on headstock tuner, spiral
notebook and pen/pencil to class.

BIRDING YOUR BACKYARD
Birds add color and beauty to our yards. In this two hour
workshop, we will cover how best to attract birds to our
backyards, as we discuss types of feed and feeders and how
water and shelter, including plantings are also important factors.
We will show photos and discuss how to identify common and
less common birds that visit our yards and discuss how to
address issues such as squirrels, hawks and birds hitting
windows. Bring your questions!

BUILD A BETTER BACK
Are you sick and tired of that chronic lower back pain? Are you
ready to improve your mobility and function? This class is designed
for individuals of all ages and spine conditions, even post-surgery.
My life’s work revolves around teaching patients how to manage
acute and chronic back injuries. The fundamental key to increasing
their movement, function, and quality of life is strengthening the
core muscles. Join me for this 2 session program to learn these
fundamental exercises and learn strategies for long term
management. Participants should bring a Yoga mat or a thick
blanket to lie on while exercising.

should learn to take care of our hips. Let’s build stronger hips

have been told that you need a hip replacement. Participants

BUYING OR SELLING A HOME
Don’t take chances with the single most important investment you
are likely to make! Learn how to protect yourself and maximize
your assets when buying or selling a home. In this course we will
look at the entire purchase and sale transaction from pre-contract
negotiations to closing. We will explore the advantages and
disadvantages of buying or selling with and without a realtor -
which option is right for you? We will also cover important topics
such as septic, water and structural tests - what to expect and who
pays; mortgages and mortgage contingencies; title insurance and
filing fees; taxes and the role of attorneys (the bank’s and yours).

CHINESE BUSINESS CONVERSATION
This class, which is taught by a native Mandarin Chinese speaking
teacher, will focus on both speaking and listening daily

CORE DE FORCE
This is an MMA-inspired work out that promises to burn calories
and help sculpt total body definition using your own body weight
as resistance. With Core De Force, you won’t get a run-of-the-
mill kickboxing workout. You’ll get a total body shred that
focuses on blasting fat off your core—no equipment needed. In
3-minute “rounds” you’ll alternate between boxing, kickboxing,
and muay thai combinations, cardio spikes and bodyweight
training for an insane calorie burn. Modifications will be shown
so anyone at any fitness level can do this program. You will
need water, a towel, comfortable clothes that you can move in,
sneakers and a mat.

GPD R.A.D. (RAPE AGRESSION DEFENSE)
Be prepared for any situation by taking a R.A.D. (Rape Aggression
Defense) class. This unique class is designed to provide women with
skills that will increase safety and confidence on a daily basis.
Whether you have limited or increased exposure to potentially
dangerous situations, it is always important to be prepared. Taught by
experienced certified instructors of the Guilderland Police
Department, students will learn how to access and defend
themselves when faced with an unsafe encounter. The course
includes lecture, discussion and self defense techniques suitable for
women of all ages and abilities. If you have ever considered taking a
self defense class, now is the time to do it. Gain new skills, friends
and the confidence to protect yourself in any situation.

GUILDERLAND BIKE RESCUE
The goal of a bike rescue is to keep bicycles out of the landfill and to
teach their owners how to maintain and fix their bikes to keep them
on the road. I won’t fix your bike, I will help you perform the work
required to make your bike road worthy again (if possible). During our
first session we will check out everyone's bike and develop a fix list
for them. We will then decide as a group who will come back when to
do the adjustments and repairs. During repair there may be parts
required that the Bike Rescue can’t provide (I have many). We will
make a list so you can visit your favorite bike shop to purchase those
parts.

This course will provide an overview of the requirements to obtain a
private pilot’s license. It will talk about different opportunities available
in the Capital District and their costs. It will cover the basic
components required to learn to fly such as aerodynamics, airplane
systems, communications, traffic patterns, Aeronautical Decision
Making (ADM), aviation weather and navigation.

MENTAL HEALTH FIRST AID
Mental health first aid is a public education program that introduces
participants to risk factors and warning signs of mental health
problems, builds understanding of their impact and overviews
appropriate support. This course uses role playing, and simulations to
demonstrate how to offer initial help in mental health crisis and
connect people to the appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-
help. The program also teaches common risk factors and warning
signs of specific illnesses like anxiety, depression, substance abuse,
bipolar disorder, eating disorders and schizophrenia.

SILVERSMITHING: DESIGN AND FABRICATION
This class introduces the basic skills necessary to complete a
project in sterling and fine silver. Students may choose between
(functional) a ring, earrings, or pendant and (non functional) jewelry
or sculpture. Students learn foundation skills such as sawing,
piercing, filing, lamination, granulation, embossing, soldering, bezel
making, and stone setting, Instructor has a BA and MST in
education and has taught this class for more than 15 years.
