I have a few housekeeping items I would like to share with the community. First, we will have a new Elementary Principal - Andrea Clevenger. She will be starting January 5, 2015. We will have a “meet-and- greet the new Principal” on January 8, 2015 at 7:00 pm on the hill in the Elementary School. I hope you can join us in welcoming Mrs. Clevenger. I would like to take this time to thank Mr. Roy Reese for his leadership as Interim Elementary School Principal for the last two months. He has done an outstanding job and made an excellent team with Mrs. Ruston. On behalf of the Board, I would like to thank this consummate professional who has always been supportive of Tri-Valley. Thank you Mr. Reese for your service to our District! Since the completion of the building project, we have continued to tweak items within the District. Two of those tweaks have been the designated visitor parking areas for our parents and community members near our school entrances in the main parking lot. You will see designated parking areas for visitors by both entrances. This will provide our parents and community members the opportunity to park closer to the building. If they need to drop something off or if they have an appointment with a teacher or administrator, those spaces are available. I wanted to thank the community for their support in the new traffic patterns and from my observations, it has worked very well. This has occurred because of the community’s willingness to make it work. Please continue to use the parent drop off and parking can occur as it has been done at the end of the day. Saying Farewell: As 2014 comes to an end, we’d like to give Mr. Reese a special thank you for staying with us during our transition of hiring a new principal. He has worked very hard as the Interim Principal and we have all learned so much from him during his stay. Academic Extra-Curricular EligibilityThis code is designed to hold students accountable for their grades if they want to remain eligible for athletic teams, activities, clubs, and attendance at after school events. The code also affects dances, fi eld trips, senior privileges, driving privileges and any other privilege that a student may receive in addition to the normal curriculum. Students in grades 7-11 are placed on the Ineligibility List if they fail more than one class. Seniors are placed on the list if they fail any class required to graduate. The Ineligibility List is manufactured using the Quarterly Report Card grades and Interim Progress Report (IPR) grades. The list is then revised with each student’s status for that week based on their submitted grade tracker form.

Back on Track (BOT) Status-students will remain eligible for everything if they:1.Hand in the completed eligibility progress report on time (If you are on the list).2.The eligibility progress report shows that you are failing no more than one class (continue to fi ll out progress report).

Practice Only (PO) Status- students will be allowed to practice and attend games, but not play or attend school sponsored events (dances, fi eld trips, etc.) if:1.The completed grade tracker is handed in on time (Monday morning).2.The grade tracker shows that the student is still failing more than one subject.

Ineligibility Status- students will not be allowed to attend practice, games, school sponsored events for the list week

(Wed.-Tues.) if:1.The grade tracker is not handed in.2.The grade tracker is not completed on time.

Eligibility Progress Report- Procedure 1.Monday after IPR or Report Card - pick up grade tracker form from guidance.2.Fill the report out each period every day.3.Have each teacher sign and enter a grade on the tracker each Friday.4.Have a parent sign it on the weekend.5.Hand it in to Guidance by 3pm Monday.6.The weekly ineligibility list starts Wednesday and runs through Tuesday of each week.

Other actions that dictate ineligibility-students will not be allowed to participate in activities after school that day if:1.If you serve an after school detention or alternative learning center time.2.If you do not participate in your physical education class for an unexcused reason. 3.Discipline policy can override eligibility policy.

“Community Members and Teachers Come Together to Provide a Special Day for 7th and 8th Grade Tri-Valley Students”

On Friday, November 21, 2014, Tri-Valley teachers and local community members came together to provide 7th and 8th grade students with a day that they would not soon forget. During the half day of school, “workshop day” took place and students were able to learn about the jobs, hobbies, and interests of several community members.

Janna Comando, from Sullivan County Public Health, put on a workshop about teenagers and healthy choices. Mike Congelosi—Senior Emergency Services Dispatcher—brought students through the process of what happens when a 9-1-1 call is made. Jason Cole and Charlie Kaplan, two New York State Troopers, brought their K-9 dog along to demonstrate how the police and their dogs work together to solve crimes and missing person cases. Donald Belsito from Catskill Martial Arts also was in attendance. His workshop was themed around the idea of anti-bullying and avoiding confrontation. From the Time & Valleys Museum, Lynn Priebe and Carol Smythe did a presentation about local history. They brought along a newly published book and shared some local history through hands-on activities. Finally, Cathy Russo did a workshop on cooking. Students were particularly happy with this workshop, as they left with their own homemade chocolate trifl e.

Within the school, high school FFA students Taylor Quick, Dorothy Monforte, Bridget Kackos, Grace Kelly, Maura Kelly, Ryan Sanok, Bryan Boyes, Brianna TerBush, and Jenn McKenna put on a workshop about leadership. They did several teambuilding activities to show the importance of being a leader. The school SRO, Kevin Rogers, taught students about his experience as a police offi cer. Richard Jones—a teacher at Tri-Valley and EMT—brought an ambulance on campus from the Grahamsville First Aid Squad to demonstrate the equipment used by EMS personnel. Tom Palmer—Superintendent of Tri-Valley Central School—even put on his own workshop, titled “Building Project 101.” Students took a tour of the outside of the school and were able to learn about the newest building project.

The day ended with an awards ceremony for students, put on by the 7th and 8th grade teachers. During this assembly students were recognized for Perfect Attendance, Honor Roll, High Honor Roll, and Principal’s Honor Roll.

Special awards were also given to students who the

7th and 8th grade teachers selected as going above and beyond expectations inside and outside of the classroom. In the 8th grade, Jake Wilsen won the award for Academic Excellence, Jonathon Schmidt and Devin Simon won awards for Excellent Work Ethic, Heather Foster and Morgan McHugh won awards for Leadership, and Sierra Barnes and Noah Orkofsky won awards for Most Improved.

In the 7th grade, Juliette Eddings, Devin Mullen, Samantha Ackerley, Andrea Decker, and Amaya Rupprecht won awards for Academic Excellence, Jake Eherts, Carly Simpson, Kyle Giminiani, Sarah Levy, Brianna Hynson, Victoria Swett, and Shauna Bellacicco won awards for Excellent Work Ethic, Isiah Matthews won the award for Leadership, Victor Kessler, Erin Markle, Thomas Muncey, Tiffany Porter, Jordan Rider, Christopher DiToro, and Jashua Roach won awards for Most Improved, and Kristyn Brewer won the award for Citizenship.

As kids packed up in preparation for their weekend the conversations in the hallways made it known that fun was had by all. With such wonderful community members, teachers, and students, that shouldn’t come as much of a surprise to anyone.
