Located just 14 miles north of downtown
Chicago, Wilmette is one of the original and
largest of the North Shore communities.
It has been ranked by Business Week as
one of the best places in the U.S. to raise
children and offers many cultural and
recreational options.
Wilmette also offers public, private and
religious school options. Similar to the
other feeder schools to New Trier High
School, it has five elementary schools
including Avoca, Central, Harper, McKenzie
and Romona. At the conclusion of fourth
grade, students from Central, Harper,
McKenzie and Romona schools attend
Highcrest Middle School for 5th and 6th
grades and then matriculate to Wilmette
Junior High School. Those students
attending Avoca Elementary matriculate
to Marie Murphy school (6-8.) All Wilmette
8th graders attend the freshman campus of
New Trier High School and then to the east
