About 800,000 Rhinoceros Auklets birdsdance and fly in the world’slargest breeding ground.

Teuri Island is the breeding ground for a number of Oloron birds ( guillemots ) .Akaiwa is the symbol of the island. It is a 48m vertical rock that sits upright from the sea. You can observe seabirds up close from this observatory.There are many holes that Rhinoceros Auklets have dug around the slopes. They form the world's largest colony of about 800,000 birds.During the breeding season in May-July, you can observe Rhinoceros Auklets swimming around and getting food to take home to their young.

Rhinoceros Auklets are a type of murrelet that are found around the North Atlantic, their breeding season is the only time they live on land. They show up on Teuri Island from mid-March, and breed in nest holes located in the cliffs.Watching birds fly home in the sunset is spectacular, and the sight of black-tailed gulls pouncing on fish to give to their chicks is also impressive.They disappear n mid - late July when their chicks leave the nest.

Kannonzaki ObservatoryThis 100meter cliff was once a major breeding ground for black-tailed gulls.Even today, we can observe a number of seabirds inhabiting the cliff.

This historical house was built in 1900 and originally used to be a Kimono and dry goods store.It has also served as a post office and telegraph station. It is a valuable cultural asset showing the footsteps of Japan’s predecessors. Its layout is the same today as the time it was built and it contains an exhibition of tools and articles used in that time.

This is a large primeval forest of about 50,000 Japanese Yew trees. The area is called “Onko Forest” and has huge trees that have withstood the wind and snow for over 300 years. You can see branches that have been flattened from above and twisted sideways by the elements as well as many other unique plants.

Yagishiri is located about 25km west of Haboro Port. One-third of Yagishiri Island is primeval forest. The forest has about 150,000 trees, and there are over 50 protected species. Alpine plants and native flowers bloom, and many birds play and rest here. When going through the forest you can also see a pasture used for Yaghishiri famous Suffolk sheep.
