POP FOR THIS SESSION
Department of Equity, Inclusion & Justice & The Movement Building Training Team
Purpose: ● Provide orientation to the Interim Guidance (IG) on Practicing the Jemez Principles to Center Equity
& Justice. The Interim Guidance is a process to continue familiarizing Sierra Club volunteers and staff with the Jemez Principles.
● Provide tools to help foster confidence and learning around the Jemez Principles
Outcome: ● Participants will have a clearer idea of what the IG is, what the expectation is in terms of using the
guidance and the support you will receive for having conversations this year that focus on what it would look like for the SC community to begin practicing the Jemez Principles in our work.
Process: ● Nellis Kennedy-Howard will give context for the Equity Department’s role in using the Jemez
Principles and relationship with the Movement Building Training Team.● Alicia Ybarra, Training Director will review context and history of how Sierra Club came to adopt the
Jemez Principles and will walk through IG document. ● Brittany Harris will discuss the relationship between the Jemez Principles and Equity, as well as
share upcoming learning resources from the Equity Dept/Training team, as well as the PASK assessment tool to support volunteers and staff as they learn more about themselves, equity work, and how to apply the Jemez Principles in daily practice. There will be time for Q&A, table discussion, and next steps.

★ Practice inquiry for understanding. Operate from a place of curiosity and not from assumption.
★ Allow for different points of view and room for growth and learning.
★ It’s ok to be uncomfortable. It probably means you’re learning and leaning into your learning edge :)
★ Value each person’s contributions- respect and honor everyone’s individual talents and the perspective they bring to the conversation.
★ Accept and expect non-closure -- not everything will be finalized by the end of this discussion.
Note: There will be opportunities to ask questions throughout this session, no question is too small or big. Use the sticky notes for anonymous questions. (fold
the sticky part under to help prevent questions sticking together)
