Guidance Services Cover Three Domains

Career Awareness/ Discovery

These domains are covered in three ways.

• 1. Classroom guidance- a. Reaches the masses (tier 1) b. Can help determine who needs small group guidance

• 2. Small group guidance- (tier 2) a. Can include those who need the extra support as well as students who can help provide that support b. Can include targeted skills in the three domains as well as providing support for students experiencing family issues (divorce, grief, behavior, etc. )

• 3. Individual guidance- (tier 3) a. Those who need individual counseling can be referred by teachers, administrators, parents, or self referral. b. I am also able to identify students in small group that need individual counseling.

Counselors are also available to:

• Consult with teachers regarding individual student concerns, small groups of children with the same problem or classroom help with a specific problem.

• Conference with parents or provide support to teachers and administrators during conferences.

• Provide training to parents and teachers on various topics ( ex. bullying, conflict resolution, suicide awareness, identifying behavior disorders, stress management).

Typical Concerns on Needs Assessment

• SCHOOL-WIDE1. Bullying/ teasing/ peer pressure/ gossip2. Homework habits, study skills, organizational habits3. Refrain from sexual conversation among peers4. Leader vs Follower/ Decision making5. Expressing anger appropriatelySMALL GROUP SETTING for kids6. Girl drama- being a good friend7. Tolerance/ acceptance/ respect8. Divorce; deployment; being a good friend

Possible School-Wide Initiatives

• Train student mediators• Parent resource center in the library or the

counselor’s office• Teacher resources on typical classroom

concerns in the library or counselor’s office
